Can A Man Use Yama Budo?

My 400th post!

We already know men can wear anything and still look like men. I mean, look at this monstrosity picture:

http://favim.com/orig/201106/24/brian-may-freddie-mercury-i-want-to-break-free-john-deacon-queen-roger-taylor-Favim.com-81539.jpg

(Why does Freddie Mercury look like he has bigger breasts than I do? :( )

That soliloquy aside, if Brian May can walk in public with this floating around on the interweb, then I think anything goes in regards to ink colour. Venture away, gentlemen.

Tes rires retroussés comme à son bord la rose,

Effacent mon dépit de ta métamorphose;

Tu t'éveilles, alors le rêve est oublié.

-Jean Cocteau, from Plaint-Chant, 1923

In that costume, he likely did....(I think they're falsies...)

It's really in rather poor taste, making so light of doomsday weapons like that.

It's meant in the same context as the original book, which made light of the entire concept of 'doomsday'

I realize that, I meant my reply to be tongue-in-cheek too. Guess it didn't play.

[Am quoting the above post but my response is a little more general than just to Pengrump]

Jokes apart, why is it so hard to accept that many men simply may not like this colour? Much as our modern, PC world would like to pretend otherwise, there *are* differences between men and women in terms of aesthetic preferences.

But the idea that some guys might find this to be "too pink" has led to a gamut of responses ranging from "dont let others dictate what you write with" to "it is sad" to "get your eyes checked" - but I've yet to see "if you dont like it, dont write with it".

I find Yama Budo to be approaching what I perceive as "teenage girl pink". If someone else likes it, good for them, but I don't. I see no reason to apologize or make excuses for my preferences, or to get my eyesight checked, or whatever.

It's just an ink, not a proxy for anything more profound.

Amen

Precisely

Incidentally ( WARNING: thread drift!) why is that footballers scream and writhe in agony when their hair gets ouched while rugby players only go off when the blood is obscuring their vision?

Because they wear hair gel on the pitch.

I remember being a prop back in school. Looked down at my left hand to find the end of my little finger bent 90° the wrong way. Happened 5 minutes earlier in a collapsed scrum. One has to just suck these things up.

By the by, Diamine Deep Magenta is one of my favourite inks.

I was always a hooker, due to my size, and have the scars, which I blame on failed props. I still like Yama Budo, and it is not "pink". For genuine pink nothing beats the now discontinued Levenger Pinkly. I will be adding Diamine Deep Magenta to the list of British inks my family will be bringing for me on their visit this summer.

It's still going to take me some time to adjust to the pen-specific lingo. I still have to do a mental correction everytime I read about "ED" pens as well.

Thankfully, there were no ED pens being whipped out in *that* thread, or I'd never have been able to recover.

:)

[Yes, I can be mentally 12 at times. Most times]

PS: No offense intended, Scrawler!

Hookers are not pen specific. A hooker can use any pen they like, or no pen at all. Hookers are useless without props. Basically to be a good hooker, you need the right physique and good props.

It's the colour of your Spitfire that intrigues me, I am looking for a blue ink that matches this colour, at this moment most of the blues I found are not as vibrant. Does anyone has suggestions?

About the pink, why not.

The official name of the color was 'Pageant Blue'. In person it looks a lot like Bay State Blue, but without the purple overtones that sometimes show. Visconti Blue on bright white paper kinda comes close...

Ah. For me, this was always implied.

Xact. Don't people live their own lives by their own rules anymore?

In the real world, probably yes.

Maybe I misunderstood/misread (which, surprisingly, has been known to happen every so often), but in the context of the thread, it appeared that the consensus was that pretty much anyone who didnt like it was bowing in to society pressure.

Anyway, all moot now. Not only has the horse has been beaten to death, it's been turned into glue.

Edited to add: I just saw Gabrielle's reply to my post and she raises a good point. The tone of the original post does naturally tend to weigh the responses in favor of justifying why it is ok to use YB. It's been a while since i read the original few pages, so it seems I may have been jousting at windmills here. Wont be the last time, I suppose.

Not at all. Threads like this can turn into never ending jokes. There are some people in this forum who like to turn everything into a suspiciously "political" discussion, to lure the unwary into breaking the rules, so the wise turn them into the long running joke they deserve to be. Sadly some of the humour here is too subtle for some, and they get to labouring their point, thinking it has been misunderstood. I am quite sure that we can boil those hooves a little bit more.

OK, here is the answer;

Q: Can a man use Yama Budo?

A: No. It is wrong. Very wrong.

Now you know.

Thank you for this clarification. Now I understand the gasps of dismay, when I signed the minutes of my mans club with the sample I had (yes I really did). I suppose now I have to shelve my hopes of obtaining a Hello Kitty pen filled with Hope Pink, or Pinkly, for that same purpose (yes I really would).
