And Then, The Strangest Thing Happen...

Over time I've been watching the Nakaya threads, and slowly contemplating the possibility of buying one. This slightly painful but thrilling reading developed to what can hardly be describes as any thing else than ruminations. I just had to have one. I initially decided to have a Piccolo cigar, but was thorn (very painfully) between the aka-tamenuri and the kuro-tamenuri. But that was my only hesitation. I decided to have it for christmas, but reading about 5 and 6 and 7 and 10 months waiting time made me slightly anxious. So I thaught, What the heck!, and sat down with the laptop and a *small* glass of Ron Zacapa (my favorite, highly recommended!). So what happend?

The order is now sent. Not for a Piccolo. The Piccolo suddenly transformed (or maybe transcended?) to a Naka-Ai. Not the aka-tamenuri, it suddenly became a heki-tamenuri. I managed to stick with the cigar, and maintained my desire for a broad stub. And, to repeat myself, what happened??? I don't know, but I actually feel quite satisfied with my decisions. I was somewhat surprised when I sent the order on friday, and received a email from Jonella (I think) on saturday stating that "Your pen has shipped". One day, not 6 months... Oh, now I see  Custom models... Right? Guess I'm the stupid one, but on the other hand, it's ordered now instead of december. Hah!

So now the pain of waiting and the endorfic (endorphinious? (please don't blaim the spelling) thrill of anticipation is sort of balanced, at least for the moment. I'm very excited!!

Just my 2 cents...

You did the right thing: when it comes to matters like fountain pens, every day should be Christmas (although it wouldn't do ordering such expensive ones every day). Just enjoy it and treat yourself to some nice ink in December.

We'd all order expensive pens daily, if only we could afford it!

My prediction is that, once you get your Naka-ai, you will regret not ordering the piccolo on that phone call ... 'cause you're gonna want another Nakaya.

Meanwhile, congratulations on your first Nakaya!

Yes, strange things DO happen when you mix pens and alcohol. Most of the time, I would say "Don't drink and write" but I'd say that in this case things worked out quite well!

Enjoy your new Nakaya and dms525 is right when he says you're going to want another one!

Thank you, everybody! Even now, plenty of time before it have arrived, I can sense you are right. Is there a rule stating that you cannot order another one before the first one has arrived? There should be...

Cheers,

L.

I'm very excited!!

I love when that happens!

Congratulations on your Nakaya! The Naka-ai is an elegant pen, and the heki-tamenuri is one of my favorite finishes, and I know that I say that about other urushi colors, and yet it is true.

There is something called the Nakaya Shield which I discovered a couple of years ago. As soon as I ordered a Nakaya, I was unable to purchase any other pens until I had received (and paid for) the Nakaya.

About a year later, it turned out that the Nakaya Shield was impervious to other Nakaya purchases.

Oh well. It's such an exquisite suffering to have "too many" Nakayas.

I hope you enjoy your Naka-ai as much as I enjoy mine.

Nakaya! Nakaya!

Congratulations!

I had a similar ordering experience, meaning to order a decapod in aka-tamenuri and instead what came out was a Blue Dragon portable cigar! And I wasn't even drinking at the time.....

I hope you enjoy your Nakaya - they are lovely to write with and lovely to behold!

No, the Nakaya Loophole (credit to ethernautrix) allows you to order another Nakaya before the first one arrives. I've done it.

Congratulations on your forthcoming Nakaya! Or will there be more than one...?

Just wait until you get repetitive Nakaya acquisition syndrome... :yikes: :puddle: :gaah:  :vbg: and repeat as often as necessary or until wallet is totally deflated... ;)

Hehe,

Nope, there can be only one (at the time). But even as I utter these words, I can feel The Shield shiver. I feel a certain urge to purchase a desk pen, but the only one in stock at John's is in black urushi. I really want one of the tamenuris. But at the same time, I succumb to instant gratification whenever I can. Quite a dilemma, I must add.

LBj, have you asked Jonella when their next shipment from Nakaya is expected? There might be more Desk Pens in it. As much as I like my Piccolos (the unpolished shu is so pretty!) (and I like them very much), I'd have to say that the Desk Pen (kuro tamenuri) is my favorite.

I'm going to ask Kelly (Dix on fpn) of Sula Jane & Earl to make a leather case for my Desk Pen so that it doesn't have to be carried attached to my notebook (although... the Quiver pen holder on my notebook is a great place for the Desk Pen).

Thanks for the tip, Lisa - I will do that. By the way, my Naka-Ai has arrived! It is absolutely Gorgious!!! And the nib! The Nib!!! It's without comparison the smoothest thing (as far as nibs are concerned) I have ever layed my hands on! Amazing :notworthy1:

Got to go, the Nakaya is calling me

Yay! I'm happy for you, Lars!

Have you seen the gorgeous photography from Elderberry and Siv in The Nakayas Have Landed thread? They really capture the gorgeousness of the Nakaya urushi. Start here at Siv's photo and scroll down for Elderberry's. I mean, I know you have a Naka-ai in hand that you can look at (and write with!), but these photos are soooo nice.

Writing sample? I'd love to see one! And congrats! Worse things have been done under the influence!

Of course I will post a writing sample soon! Please excuse the delay, I've been on a work trip for some days. I'm struggeling with the photos; right now I have absolutely no idea how the beautiful photos in some of the other threads are shot :crybaby:

Hi Folks,

Just tought I should present a writing sample from the new beautie. Having had it in house for a good week or so, I can assure you all it writes like a dream! Not that I suspect any of you need to be convinced, but it feels really good to utter these words! Anyway, here are the sample. First one, without the pen, is scanned at 300 dpi. The rest are shot using a Canon EOS400. I find it really difficult to take decent pictures, and is currently experimenting. I have no idea, as I commented earlier, how geoduc and elderberry manage to get those excellent photos taken...

So far I have just tested it with J. Herbin 1670 Ocean Blue, including this sample. The paper is Oxford Optik 90g/sqm. For comparison I included a small sample using my Peli M640 Sahara with 18k medium nib. I dipped it in the same 1670, and realizes (slightly ashamed) that I might (probably?) did not cleaned it quiiite good enough last time I used it. I suspect the green remnants is Diamine Sherwood green. But then, if you skip the french accent Herbin-Diamine Blue-green dosnt't sound so bad?
