Hi there,

As I sit in the train with an ithing read FPN, I browse through this thread and remember how fond I was of corresponding by snail mail once upon a time. I would gladly give it a go.

I have an eclectic taste for most things (music migt well be an exception, but yet again eclectic does not mean that you like everything, right?) and I tend to abuse these (). It's a quirk of how my brains works apparently :)

My profile is emptyish, but you will find a few bits of info there. Send me an MP with your address and I will gladly write you a letter first (not an easy thing for me, but I like the idea ninetheless).

Time is not limitless, so I will be fair to you all and limit myself to a pair of correspondents.

Waiting for your messages!

.

Some of this might benefit from translation, but I realise it may be a kind of password to separate the dopy dank meme sheep from the non-dopy dank meme goats.

Best wishes,

Timothy

I haven't written a letter for decades but I have just been browsing on the Royal Mail website and have discovered how to buy international postage online and print the "stamp" directly onto an envelope (Woo!). I quite fancy giving it a trial run if anyone is brave enough to volunteer me a name, address, postcode, and country (non UK, please).

I warn you, I've got Pelikan Edelstein Mandarin loaded into a TWSBI 580 and armed with a crazily broad Swan #3 stub (with a hacked feed nipple to turn it into a fire-hose) and I'm not afraid to use it!

Are you feeling lucky, punk?

Oops, that was a Magnum 45! I've got a Parker 45 with Lamy Blue and a boring medium nib, but I don't think that that has anything like the impact!

Cheers,

David.

Hi there.

I would certainly throw my 'name' in the hat for some snail mail friends.

Things I'm into right now:

books, reading (currently rereading a favorite from teen years: The Ides of March by Thornton Wilder), art (I paint portraits, sketch and doodle random things), Latin, the Tomoe river paper, I just got in :)

Drop me a PM if interested.

see ya!

Hi All!

I will answer all letters sent to my post box. I am in South Africa, so mail might take a while, but in my experience our mail system is fairly reliable.

Can somebody give me a good reason why I should not to post my address here?

Meanwhile I will send it out by PM.

Security. An internet search will turn it up, allowing anyone with the right software to target you. With a name and address, you open yourself up to identity theft.

Hmm, I can think of some people very deserving of that kind of hassle, is there a particularly bad place to post a name and address? My ex-wife's solicitor caused me so much grief I'd like to put it to the test with him...

Er, perhaps one of these ... :D... will make this appear more humorous??? ...and like the Murphy's I'm not bitter. B)

I don't see it as a problem at all. What are you going to do with my P.O Box number and my name? Anyway, I don't have anything. Worst that can happen when you try to impersonate me is they will force you to pay all the money I owe. lol.

While you may not see it as a problem, the admins will. As this is an international community spanning multiple continents, not to mention the dozens of individual countries, there is relatively little ground to budge on such matters. Varying interpretations of liability and compliance in the event of any wrongdoing could fall to Wim and the staff and as a mostly volunteer organization, the resources to fight an international legal battle just isn't an option. It's as much for your personal safety as it to protect the community as a whole.

Sure, that makes sense. "Because we say so" is a valid reason. But it is a weird world we are living in these days. When I was younger you found lots of real paper magazines with "Penpal" sections, with addresses printed right there.

I'd really like to hear from any FPN members who are amateur musicians (any instrument, any genre, any level of proficiency), particularly those who may have learned to play an instument as an adult. I started playing cello in my 30s and am interested in other people's experiences. This seems like a decent starting place for finding a pen pal.

I am in the US and am up for writing to others in the US or abroad. English is my first language, but I am open to letters in Spanish, too (though my written Spanish is rusty these days).

Thanks!

Hi;

I am thinking I might like a pen pal, or, at most, 2. I have pretty severe Carpal Tunnel Syndrome in my right (writing) hand, which limits how long I can write or do any arts or crafts projects that require extensive use of hand and wrist. I can probably manage to write on a regular basis to one or 2 people, though. Anyway, I'm willing to give it a try :) . I swap postcards with several people, and I really enjoy that.

I am very happily married to Zwack (another FPN member). We just celebrated our 17th wedding anniversary last month. I'm in my mid 50s, and a retired Special Ed teacher, although I've done many other things, the most meaningful of which involved working with animals, especially dogs, birds, and reptiles. I love family more than life, itself (my grown kiddos, sister, my wonderful husband, etc.), including our dogs, which nowadays I simply refer to as my furry children, and our parrots--several macaws, an Amazon, a Sun Conure, and my "other husband", a Blue Headed Pionus named Tiki Blue who is pair-bonded to me. What few friends I have are VERY important to me. We live a block from the ocean, and I love the everything about the beach from beachcombing/agate hunting to storm watching. I also love traveling with my husband, gardening, and photography, as well as other art forms (drawing, painting, clay sculptures, wire wrapping, jewelry making, etc.). My husband and my dogs & parrots are pretty much my whole world, since I'm apparently agoraphobic, according to my doctor. All that means is that I don't leave the house unless it's with my husband (and usually a dog or 3). So a nice pen pal to give me a glimpse of the world outside my living room window would be nice, indeed!

I'll write to just about anyone, anywhere, as long as you speak & write English, as my French and Spanish aren't good enough to converse in. I can manage Pig Latin with the best of 'em, though :lticaptd:! I don't care to discuss politics, religion, or any other polarizing issue that might make conversations with a pen pal less than enjoyable.

I'll give this another shot now that life has settled somewhat.

Early twenties, no college education (can't stand the lectures),and according to some, fairly well learned. I'd rather be outdoors or carving spoons in my workshop, I'm an avid vaper with a weakness for expensive (read quality) knives and axes and leatherwork.

If anyone thinks they're interested, drop me a message. I have no preference on age, location, gender etc... Worth noting is that I am Heathen (universalist Asatru) but I am open to discussing religion with anyone intersted. Just no politics.

And to the few penpals I had before, I apologize. I had some personal matters get in the way of getting anything accomplished this past year.

I'll refresh my entry here. I'll add that I'm interested in gaining a penpal from Scandinavia (any Nordic country really) as I'd like to learn some of the written languages. Or if there are any other Asatruars hanging around out there I'd like to chat.

Hi everyone,

I'm a married father of four living in rural Alberta, Canada. I work as a pastor of one of the churches in town and have been into fountain pens for a little over a year now. I also play guitar and sing, read a lot, and am attending Seminary at Fuller Theological Seminary online.

I would absolutely love to correspond with one or two of you, especially if you live in Canada or the US!

Jesse van Oort / Pukka-J,

a little bio: my name is Jesse, Dutch, male, 45 years old, happily married, 3 daughters.

I work with computers every day, but all of my private hobbies and interests have always been more analogue in nature: cycling, camping, reading, writing, listening to and playing music (mainly classical and jazz) and photography (yes, both digital and film). We also host visitors a lot through Couchsurfing and WarmShowersList. Keeps us in touch with the world outside the Netherkands better than just reading the papers.

I'd love to write more letters, and perhaps even receive some, but the thing is: I ran out of potential recipients who would appreciate it, so this thread might just be the right cure!

For the record, I'm a native Dutch speaker, but can also write and read (in descending order of ability) English, German, Polish and even Esperanto.
