Hi All,

I would love to correspond with some people. I am interested in Ghost Correspondence if that suits anyone. But I would love to write to a regular pen pal as well.

I am 21, I'm from New Zealand, but I live in Colorado now. I would love to talk about anything, besides pens, I'm interested books, music, history, sports, I am a Modern Pentathlete, and tons of other things but I won't talk too long about myself here.

I would also love to hear about anything that interests you, I am always keen to learn something new!

Cheers,

Bevan

Hi everyone, I have a small handful of pen pals and I am ready to take on a few more ;) I am Dutch, 35 years old and live with my wife, 2-year old daughter and (soon) 0-year old son in the city of Leiden. I have an MA in English literature and used to work as a teacher of English in high school. I now work for an organisation that supports schools nationally. My interests include literature, television (series), politics, comedy, culture in general and fountain pens (obviously). I'd be happy to write about our daily lives, but wouldn't mind a good debate either. I have strong principles, but if you don't like them, I have others :) I like using nice stationary and trying out various inks and would like to correspond with people who are similarly adventurous.

Hi! Abhishek here, from India. As much as I'd LOVE to open up to the whole world here, I'll have to currently restrict pen pals to India only- speed post only please, so I can track it. The place where I currently live has a habit of swallowing mail, it's ridiculous.

Ugh, I feel terrible writing out so many restrictions....

I'm 24, one of those ubiquitous IT engineers running around- I'd love to talk about anything really, while my favourite topics are usually history, languages, mythology, literature, etc.

:-)

Good evening!

My Name is Joachim, I´m 32 years old and from Germany!

I want to have PenPals from all around the world- USA, Canada, Europe...

...and especially from JAPAN and China.

I´m interested in paper, handwriting, old typewriters, art, nature and what happens in the world.

We can write about everything; tell me something about your life, just what you want.

It doesn´t matter how offen we are writing but regularly would be nice.

PLEASE: Write me a letter!

Hi all,

I'm interested in writing light free form correspondence that might feel a bit like exchanging pages from cryptic books. I'm also happy to reply to regular letters with my multi-font, ink, rotation and directional ones.

My interests include bookbinding (would love to learn about it!), animals (especially hookbills, though any and all, really), doodle-illustration-sketchy-things, the chemistry of inks and dyes (uni chem undergrad), and science-y things in general. I would also like to learn a bit about living in countries where you lack the local language, as I would like to spend some time in South America in the next few years.

I'm a fan of super fine points and flex, though I have yet to get the two to dance.

Cheers!

Hello from the Greater Toronto Area, Ontario Canada...

I am looking for PenPals from around the world. I am a lover of different cultures. I don't travel much, but corresponding with people of the world is a wonderful way of experiencing other cultures.

My interests include religion, mythology, reading & American Comics - I read a bit of Japanese Manga but not a lot. I am male, 50yrs old, no family other then mother and brothers. Work in the emergency services industry as a dispatcher. My interest in fountain pens, inks and stationary began just a few months back. I now have 10 pens and a dozen inks and my storage boxes are packed with books, pads and tablets of paper. :) If you would like to know more, chat me up PM or email and let's start an exchange.

Hey, I'm Seth. I live in Westchester, New York in the United States.

I've fallen into the addiction that is fountain pens and all their wonderfulness about a year and a half back. I love to write letters but sadly only have a couple of people to write to - and none of them share the pleasure to the same degree! I love getting and opening letters, there's something interesting about it. Anyways, I'll be a senior in high school this coming year, I play tennis, have three dogs, love cars, luxury goods, sailing, clothes, and country music. Currently, I'm the proud owner of a Mont Blanc 149 (well, I will be when it's done being engraved!), a Lamy 2000, and several other lower-grade pens. Message me if you would like to start a correspondance!

Hi Seth:

I for one would love to correspond with you, but there is one thing standing in the way. I am judging from your post, being a senior in high school, that you are still a Minor. It would be very inappropriate for adult strangers to correspond with a minor. I know I would not be comfortable with it for myself, nor for my child to correspond with an adult if I had one.

For others here, this brings up a very serious issue. Any suggestions on how to address it?

This is probably a common 'problem' on the internet. But one thing which is worth considering would be.... is there any difference between communicating with someone via snail mail and communicating via PM, other than via snail mail both parties are disclosing their home addresses? If it were my son/daughter I'd much prefer them writing letters to someone knowing where that person lived, rather than communicating with someone on-line with all the associated dangers. I don't think there are many children, nowadays, who are groomed via snail mail. Just my opinion.

I agree with some of your points but there is one that I would like to address, PM. If I know the age of the person I likely would not PM a minor either. I just do not feel comfortable about it. Not without knowing the person in question and also knowing that their parents know the minor is conversing privately with an adult. In today's world one has to look out for the safety and interest of the child as well as your own.

Also...would you read your child's snail mail? Would you even know they received anything and who it was from? How would that make you feel more comfortable? For me I think it would make me more uncomfortable knowing that some strange adult that has been corresponding with my child knows where s/he lives, and possibly even what school s/he attends.

I do actually agree with almost everything that you say, and it is such a shame that we have to think in such unsavoury terms. I think the main point that I was trying to make, and probably not too well, was that 'snail mail' is by its very nature less covert. Parents wouldgenerally be aware of letters arriving, especially as most things that drop through the letter box, nowadays, tend to be junk mail ... not even bills any more. Being aware that your child is communicating with someone will give you the choice as to whether or not to ask them about it .... unfortunately most parents don't know what their children are discussing or being subjected to when they are on social media sites.

For very many years I worked with children and young people, and much of my time, because of the sheer nature of the work, centred around child protection (both proactive and reactive) ,and it was an incredibly frustrating profession to be in for so very many reasons.

This is a hard one, and I don't know what the answer is.

I'm traveling in a number of foreign countries at the moment. I don't have a fixed address at the moment. Can I write a letter, scan it, and send it as an email attachment?

But if you are the one travelling, you could still post letters, no? It would be interesting for your pen pals to receive letters from various countries. And is sending letters 'poste restante' still possible? I believe this is where you send letters to a post office and then the addressee picks them up.

Matt,

I love writing letters and would like to receive letters. I am a history teacher in WV. I love sports and music and have a very limited FP collection, but working on expanding that.

Kind Regards,

Oh, I'm game, too; it's been a while since I had postal mail correspondents.

Me, too! If I get two in a year...it's been a banner year!!!!!

I would like in on this...as long as I don't get dinged for spelling, grammar, punctuation or sentence structure!!!! :P

So, what's your point?

Hello world,

So I've been meaning to get a pen pal (never had one) and give it a whirl. I'm 24, study psychology, and live in the south west (UK). My interests include video games, films, writing, pens, reading, guitars, philosophy, and current politics. It sounds a bit dry reading it back, but I'm fun...honest :D

I'm open to post from all parts of the world, although I'd really like correspondence from the US. Any interest PM me :)

Hi everyone,

I have picked up some pen pals and have settled on 4 for the moment. Looking to see if anyone else is interested.

I am a 38 year old male, living in Athens, Greece. Yes, the nation that is causing all sorts of trouble in Europe.

I like science fiction, I read when I can and travel a lot for business. I am currently reading about Ancient Greece.

My work involves mainly the computer and I have taken up fountain pens lately as something traditional which I really miss. I also love espresso and although I am not a zealot, I am interested in the ways of Christian Orthodox faith.

I have 4 kids, a pitbull puppy and no cats (for the time being). I like running, mountain biking and I used to practice Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in the past. I am also interested in traditional shaving and make my own soaps!

Dimitris.

Greetings and salutations!

I can’t really remember the last time when I got a real, personal letter, written with real ink on real paper, not with eight bits to a byte in an email or instant message. My mailbox of course is anything but empty, junk mail will see to that. And the occasional bill, but even those too are on the List of Endangered Species by now. This, of course, is unacceptable; this thread seems like the perfect place to change that.

So, what am I interested in? Other than fountain pens, that is. Well, I am studying computer science, so that’s a big part. Other than that, it’s a rather eclectic mix of anything I come in contact with. Just imagine opening a typical issue of the ‘New Yorker’ and you’d get a general idea. ; o) I have a science-y kind of background so that will be a strong point as well.

Oh, and I have a fascination with languages. Partly that’s what got me into computer science (a programming language is much easier to lear than a natural language), and back into fountain pens (as you need something to write with). My native language is German; other than that as you can see there’s of course English, then some Italian. I want to learn the Scandinavian languages; as of now, I can at least read Norwegian reasonably well (and, by extension, Danish), but my writing is poor at best. I also manage to decipher Swedish with some effort.

And so on; if I spill all my beans right now then there’ll be nothing to write about anymore. So if anyone is interested, do come forth, there are still plenty of spots available! ; o)
