Snail Mail Writing List

Greetings FPNers,

I'm de-lurking in the hope of finding some new people to correspond with. As I've not posted much on these boards, I might say a few words about myself:

I'm 31, male, and live in London (England). I'm an academic who researches long-dead languages, working from manuscripts, inscriptions etc.

I am passionate about opera and ballet and perfume (it's a legitimate hobby! ).

I've made several trips throught the Peruvian Amazon and love neotropical birds in particular. Travel plays a big part in my life.

I like Art Nouveau, silent films ( Louise Brooks is my favourite actress ), literature and of course, pens/inks/paper.

Not terribly keen on military stuff, video games, T.V. ( haven't owned one for over a decade), right-wing politics.

I'd warmly welcome messages from anyone who thinks we might have something to write each other about.

Best wishes.

I'm not the best at social interaction  , but I like writing and having a pen pal sounds like fun!

I'm 24, non-binary (in more or less plain English: I identify as neither male nor female...though in presentation and personality I tend to lean to the masculine side of things), queer (my partner is also non-binary, so labels of orientation based in the binary gender system don't apply), and live in Chicago, IL (USA). I'm a writer, a thinker, a mandolin enthusiast, a voracious reader (Terry Pratchett is pretty near the top of my list of favourites, though I could never pick just one), and a knitter. I studied psychology for my undergraduate degree and think people are fascinating, though large groups of them overwhelm me pretty quickly.

I moved to Chicago from the Twin Cities (MN, USA) back at the beginning of October, 2012, and while I'm settling in and finding a bit of a social circle, I'm on the lookout for new friends. I'd be happy to hear from anyone who thinks we might share some interests.

Peace,

Alyx

I'm Amber. I am 30, live in beautiful and historic Charlottesville, Virginia; my house is about 10 minutes from Thomas Jefferson's Monticello. My interests include: reading, knitting, sewing, quilts, traditional skills (canning, preserving, homesteading), gardening and hobby farming, local food, and anything to do with hiking, camping, or nature.

By trade, I'm a graphic designer, although now my job is a little of everything online: writing, content creation (like eBooks and online courses), email marketing, blogging, web design, and web development. I'm a bit of a renaissance lady and a digital rebel.

I love studying history and especially learning about women throughout the ages, both in private and public life. I'm a little obsessed with Tudor/Elizabethan England at the moment, and my current research obsession is the "stillroom" - look it up, or write to me to learn more about them.

I'm a Tolkien geek, I love to watch period dramas, I am a fan of all kinds of music from hardcore punk to folk and bluegrass, and I sing fairly well. I am one of those people who gets intensely interested in something, "does" it to death, and moves on to the next interest, so I find myself occupied all the time with various studies, hobbies, and obsessions.

I'm looking for a few penpals so I can expand my horizons and practice my penmanship. PM me, and let's be friends!

Hi!

I would really like to try snailmailing.

Just a few word about me. I live in Saint-Petersburg, second largest city in Russia, I'm 24 year old PhD student plus part-time preclinical reseacher. Among the things I enjoy are reading (sadly, nowadays my reading material consists mainly of scientific articles related to my research and work), knitting, dancing (flamenco is my passion), travelling and singing. I'm a huge opera fan, especially belcanto and barocco, though I listen to lots of different music, from irish folk to k-pop.

PM me if you are interested.

All the best,

Polina.

I'm a pretty boring person, and my handwriting is barely legible, but a few of my goals for 2013 include consistent pen pals and improving my penmanship.

I'm 17 and from Northeastern Indiana. I love music, play French Horn, and was drum major of the marching band. Computers are my passion, and I intern at a local iron-molding company. I can talk about almost every subject, and love meeting people.

I would prefer it if someone else sends me a letter first, it may seem silly, but it's just a lot easier for me to start writing that way.

Regards,

Taylor Skidmore

Hello pen lovers,

I'm a 19-year old French student interested mainly in fountain pens, music and sound listening, and audio equipment.

I'm looking for a European penpal who, I'll be honest, would be willing to send me a few crumbs of pure silicon grease, because I can't find any anywhere in real life and I don't want to pay shipping costs from England just to lube my only piston-filling pen five times a year. This doesn't mean the silicon grease is the only thing I'm craving through a letter exchange. I wouldn't mind it turning out to be a long-lasting handwritten conversation smile.gif

PM me if you are interested. I repeat, I would like to correspond with a European pal. For the time being.

Simon

This is a very cool idea. Maybe one day I will have time to partake.

Back into fountain pens and writing letters after a long hiatus -- eager to find some interesting penpals from here!

I have quite a bit of information on my profile, but the gist of it is: I'm 48, male, married, and have one grown daughter who is going to get married this summer (so you know what we are doing at my house right now -- panicking). I'm a professor at a local private college, teaching Microbiology and Genetics and everything related to those subjects. I'm also a musician and play the piano and organ, semi-professionally. On top of this, I try to write creatively and read, although not enough of either of these happen these days to suit me.

PM me if you'd like to be my penpal!

Hi all,

I am interested in finding a Penpal. When mentioning this to my daughter she didn't know what one was. I would love to be able to use my pens for reasons other than my daily journal writing.

I am 35 years old, with a wonderful husband and three great kids aged 13,11 and 8. I work in education, more specifically with children with behaviour challenges.

in my spare time I play bowls, buy, sell and use my pens. I like sport, watching not so much playing, and all things interesting.

If interested in exchanging letters please PM me some info about you.

would like to receive handwritten letters only.

  • 2 weeks later...

I feel that writing "for real" would be as much addictive as collecting pens!

Please let me in!

Simonced,

My real firstname is Cedric (31 years old), I'm french living in Japan.

My wife is Japanese and we're married for 9 years now.

I'm a computer/geek guy, I love programming, reading books (mangas to read kanjis, sooo hard!), listening to music, playing some synth (covers!), taking photographs and writing.

After arriving here in Japan, I discovered so many things that I would never think I would like ever.

This includes : meeting real people and sharing my time with them, discovering people from different horizons and having fun discovering their culture, adapting to a new way of life and learning the language (japanese in that case of course).

I work on my penmanship so I think I'm readable ^^.

The time to post to Europe or US is usually a week or less, snailmail, but not that much.

I do have time to answer, and why not inserting one photograph I took in the envelopp also if you like?

Cheers,

Cedric

I'd love a penpal!!

Username: exdevlin

Short Bio: I'm a software developer, who loves old-world etiquette and 'vintage' class. I live in Canada, take singing lessons, and love cooking and baking. Video games and reading novels are my favourite pastimes, and love the occasional Latin dance party.

I would love a European pen-pal, or another Canadian one to trade commentary on various things in life. Please use this as an opportunity to show off your penmanship -- tell me about how painstaking it was for you to practice, or tell me about how you found *your style* -- and your choice in pen, ink, and paper -- tell me about how you obtained each individual item, and why!

Hi. I have no idea what to say about myself but having someone to write to sounds nice if that person is up for dealing with my handwriting.

I'm 20, a college student doubling in biology and anthropology, I live in Orlando, I love to cook and eat, I read books, I watch stuff on netflix with my roommate, I go to Disney World a lot, and so forth.

Hm. Well, I'd love letters and to send them too!

LOVE snailmail.

I'm 28, a high school English teacher living in the mountains of Colorado. My mail is delivered by donkey.

Not really.

But did you know donkey racing is the official sport of Colorado? I didn't before I moved here a few years ago. But anyway... I am a new mom, but I promise not to write too much about how cute my son is. I have a black cat named Mango (who isn't sure yet what to make of the baby).

I am a fan of Jane Austen and Pixar alike. I dabble with artwork (cards on Etsy if you're curious: www.etsy.com/shop/christineworks), cooking, and flute playing. I love to write and have kept a daily journal since just before high school.

I'm having so much fun getting into the art of fountain pen writing - and what better way than with a few pen pals?

Count me in for sure.

I am 31, currently living in Phoenix, and like many of you I am also a teacher. My wife and I recently had our first child and while she does occupy a fair bit of my time, I always find time to correspond in the evenings. I enjoy all kinds of movies, the show West Wing, and virtually every team sport.

I have only been involved in the fountain pen world for a few months but I have quickly (but not surprisingly) acquired a plethora of pens and inks with which I would love to write more letters.

Can this list still be joined? I've been a member of FPN for a few years but haven't been very active. I'm intrigued by the Letter Exchange.

I live in the KC Missouri area. I like Wagnerian opera. I also like road trips and have driven (rode on) all of historic Route 66 in Missouri, and Kansas (12 or so miles).

Starting to be somewhat interest in bird watching (would say birding but that's not me) in my own yard.

It doesn't really matter to me where a writing pal lives, so long as we can write in English.

If age matters I'm a woman in her 40s.

I'm ready, I think..

Apart from the (obvious from the picture I just took, and posted) fountain pens and collecting snail figurines, I love to read, photography, philosophy, mountain biking, hiking (I own several tents and other outdoor gear) Qi Gong, yoga/stretching, singing.. I live with my boyfriend and my Italian Greyhound dog. I love and collect perfumes and I don't know what more to tell at the moment :) :)

Re-entering.

I posted in this thread five years ago. Just found that post, which was a bit strange, and saw that I haven't really changed. In London now. I talk mostly about art, books, and hip hop. Painting, literature, and language.
