Snail Mail Writing List

May I also throw my hat into the ring? I have one penpal and would like another. My interests are varied but include reading, walking and I have a passion for music. One of my great pleasures is using my pens and I keep a diary and have done for many years. Diaries do not write back and that is the downside for me.

I'm a college student in the US who loves food, reading, film, and lazy days. I can't wait for grad school and my MLS degree! I'm new to the fountain pen scene and my budget has kept me from doing much beyond obsessively bookmarking late at night. In my spare time, I enjoy taking photos of my mother's dog (he has the weirdest face) and watching ridiculous tv shows with my brother. I used to send my friends tons of letters when I was younger, but it seems like none of them have the time/inclination anymore.

Hi, I'm new to FPN but have worked with fountain pens "for awhile." I'm a professional artist, calligraphy enthusiast, travel adventurer, and avid carnet de voyage writer. Last year I spent 10 weeks as artist-in-residence with the National Park Service in North Cascades National Park. No TVs, radio, cell service, and 50 miles from the nearest highway. But they did have a mail boat that visited every day and a tiny community post office and I enjoyed doing a pretty fair bit of writing.

I'm interested in corresponding with anyone from another part of the country or another part of the world. Sometimes I'll write, sometimes I'll draw, and sometimes it'll be both. If that sounds interesting to you PM me and we can give it a try.

Dioxazine (LJ which I should use more

I live in Alaska, and I like to doodle/sketch/scribble out stupid stuff. I really have to get back into making art and not being so incredibly lazy about it.

My tastes in materials are pretty cheap, admittedly, but I'm not a rich person, so it's okay. I absolutely love Lamy Safaris and lined paper. Boy do I love reams of lined paper. What do I do with all that lined paper? Rip off the margins and stitch them into booklets!

As I am writing this, I am working on three kettle-stitched booklet letters (made from 10 full leaves. 5.5x5.3", 4 sigs, 40 sh.) to family and friends, and have been taking them around with me to sketch in using watered-down inks in Safaris.

I'm trying to learn Russian, I love bugs, and...stupid stuff.

I'd love to have another artistically-inclined pen pal!

Hi all! I'm in!

Call me Jeremiah/Jerry (literally no preference).

I'm American but have lived in England these past 5 (nearly 6!) years. I'm married, and am father to a beautiful 4 year-old girl.

I have an avid love of the works of J.R.R. Tolkien, and I recently read Stephen King's The Dark Tower epic (which stems from my love of Tolkien) and thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm now reading the Marvel graphic novel adaptations of this work which are truly remarkable.

I am also currently going through George R.R. Martin's Song of Ice and Fire saga and enjoying it very much whilst also struggling to understand why people refer to him as "The American Tolkien"...I then planning on delving deeply into Tolkien's History of Middle-earth series.

Several years ago I used to enjoy sketching, but I've not practised in years.

I love home baked bread, technology, comics/graphic novels, dogs, and a variety of other topics.

I work in IP Network design, have multiple tattoos (and am planning more), and enjoy board and video games...so I nerd-out on many different levels.

Feel free to PM me for address details.

Edit: I'm pretty much brand new to all of this, and I'm not any good. But I'm keen and if I don't practice, I'll never improve or, even worse, lose interest. So this seems a great way to keep in the game!

Oh! This sounds wonderful! Real, physical letters and paper I can rub between my fingers! There's just nothing like that! Count me in.

A little information about me:

My parents were professional puppeteers, so I have lots of stories about being a puppeteer's daughter. I teach Old Testament and Hebrew at the university level and have for 20 years. I live in Texas, but wish I still lived in New Mexico, where I grew up. I bike, I hike, I journal, I am a photographer, I adore Apple products (I'm a gadgetholic), and I'm a cat person. My sister is a cloistered nun. My brother is a Trekkie.

I'm new to the fountain pen addiction and have the ravenous intensity of a new convert.

We will have lots to talk about, you and I. :).

PM me if you wish to correspond!

Susan

I can't stop buying pens and it scares me.

I will put my name out there, if anyone would like to be penpals :) I love getting stuff in the mail, and love to hear about people from different backgrounds. I'm not picky! PM me if you are interested!

Thought it was time I threw my hat back in the ring to see if I can actually get the motivation to start using my pens again (in recent years I've been dealing with getting my father diagnosed with Dementia and his admittance into a nursing home, so just haven't felt like putting pen to paper). I'm Carrie, I'm 37 and live on the beautiful Isle of Wight with my wonderful fiancé and our three sighthounds. We moved house last year, you know the estate agent description - in need of modernisation - so a lot of our time seems to be taken up with doing up the house and creating a garden out of half an acre of grass. Enjoy walking and visiting historic sites or just generally spending time i the countryside. Keep contemplating whether to take up Archery again, but really need to sort out a shoulder injury first. Bought a sewing machine, so now the Study is looking like a room rather than a paint store I'd like to try a few projects on that. Always been a motorsport fan, but that annoying little stretch of water means that actually attending races isn't really practical anymore, so my days of doing motorsport photography are in the past, but had a lot of fun doing that in previous seasons.

Hello, everyone!

I would like to put my fountain pens to good use and while I write a lot with them in the office, I could definitely use them more and for such a beautiful purpose--to write letters!

Some quick info about me: I'm 23, female, and from the Philippines. I like art, particularly classic literature and paintings, photography, and the Beatles.

Please message me if interested. :-)

Hi all,

I have been thinking about this for a while - whether i have the time and actually the content to write about, but came to the conclusion that i should just go for it. It will give me a chance to make new friends and use my pens.

So, I'm Tony, a member of the British Forces currently serving in Germany, (for any UK based individuals i have a Forces Post Office Address which is the same as posting to anywhere in the UK. For anyone out of the UK I am likely to give my German address so mail doesn't have to go to the UK and then be directed into the Forces mail and then make the journey to Germany). I am due to be here for another few months with a new posting back to the UK in December this year.

I have a daughter who is nearly 2 and a long suffering wife (I say long suffering as she puts up with very minimal complaint when a new hobby pops up on my radar) and a rather large but soppy dog who we got from the local German Tierheim when she was about 4 months old, making her about 5.5 years old.

Please drop me a line if you fancy corresponding.

Best regards,

Tony.

Hi everybody! My name is Cory and I live in Georgia, USA. I'd like to have a couple US penpals. I am a college professor teaching introductory computer applications (aka M S Office). I am married, 30 years old, no kids or pets. I like to sew, papercrafts, travel, enjoy reading, action movies, all sorts of music. Please PM if you are interested in exchanging letters.

A quick update...

Thanks to postcrossing I'm now comfortable enough with international mail to swap letters with anyone from the US or internationally. I am trying to learn/relearn Spanish so I'd love to have penpals who are willing to put up with my attempts at writing in Spanish, but i'd be happy to exchange letters in English as well.

Hello,

I used to write a lot during my childhood and teenage years. With the advent of the internet, I find myself 'keeping in touch' with my friends through Facebook, Twitter and whatnots. While I have to concede that instant communication is quite invigorating, I often wonder if it's really my preferred of mode of communication. You see, I do like things to stew in my head a little before I can form a reply (or judgement).

I end up feeling pressured to reply my friends' messages instantly. This is compounded by the fact that I'm keenly aware they know I've read their messages because I'd posted an update on FB/twitter, etc; I wonder if they're mad at me thinking what took me so long. At this stage, I will start to invent an excuse to excuse my 'lateness' (which quite frankly, in the normal world, it's not 'later' at all). And then a better excuse to excuse the delay. It's a vicious cycle. Well, let's just say I sometimes leave it for 'so long' that people wondered if I still consider them as friends.

Now, it's a different story with letters. Imagine the excitement of getting mail in the box, opening up the letter, scanning the content in haste and then rereading at leisure… I'll think about the letter for a few days, I'll think about my reply for the next few days until I presently find myself at my desk, with a big cup of tea, a letter pad in front of me, a fountain pen in my hand and start penning, word by word until… the letter is finished, folded carefully to fit the envelope, sealed, stamped and slotted into one of those red post boxes. Ah… the nostalgia. Anyone care to join me?

A little bit about myself: I'm 29 years old, from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Currently residing in Singapore, finishing up my masters in Art Therapy. My background is in psychology, social psychology specifically, prejudice and stereotypical thinking to be exact. I lived in New Zealand for the past 4 years before moving to Singapore and am still missing NZ sorely.

My two biggest loves are reading, writing and knowledge gathering (being a nerd). Am currently quite obsessed with Sherlock Holmes (BBC version, loves Moffat's writing, such lines!). Anything else you'd like to know, do send me a snail mail (PM me for address)!

-Cait-

p/s: I love writing long letters but short letter writers are welcome too. Just don't complain about that bulky mail in ur box. Am looking for 2 to 3 at the moment due to looming thesis.

My name is Fred. Originally from South Jersey/Philadelphia, I now live in Colorado.

Professionally, I was in the IT field for 15 years, and am now a Project Manager. Interest-wise (besides the obvious), I want to write stories and novels. I also am deeply into music (any genre except country), and DJ a radio show every Saturday night that showcases a lot of electronic dance music.

I used to write by hand a lot. I wrote fanzines (was/am really into punk/hardcore), which were a lot of handwriting with bad photocopying. I also wrote a lot of poetry, stories, and the like, and didn't like using a computer for it. Moving into the IT field, and love of computers and technology killed my handwriting for a long time. Now I'm trying to get back into writing by hand more.

Confession: In grade school, our grades were E (Excellent) VG (Very Good), G (Good), S (Satisfactory), U (Unsatisfactory). My grade in penmanship (for 5 years) was never above an S, and was usually a U. Not because I didn't try, but because the way I was taught to write as lefty (drag your pinky into your work) was basically a recipe for a smeared mess. I'm working on a new way to write, which is mostly print (though I did write my first page of pure cursive tonight in over 17 years, and it looks like a 2nd grader did it). Still want to be my penpal? Sweet!

I don't have a huge time for writing (kid and all), but I will make it a priority.

PM me if you are interested.

-Fred

Hello!

My name is Schin and I am originally from Malaysia, but today I live in Las Vegas working as a graphic designer and fantasy illustrator. You may receive sketches of my cat, which I love to death.

I love calligraphy and collecting stationary, art and graphic design, cooking (let's exchange recipes and photos!) reading (Clavell's Asian Saga, Terry Pratchett, Game of Thrones etc), soccer (especially European clubs), tea, poetry and song lyrics, foreign films (my fav movie is In The Mood for Love) and did I mention artsy stuff?

I've only started to get into fountain pens, so do expect lots of experimentation with new pens, new calligraphy hand styles, gripes about ink, and excitement about new papers.

I can write one every week or so, and look forward to sharing letters.

I am a new member of FPN, and a new user of Fountain Pens.

I am 34 and have been on the Internet for over 20 years. I am from Belfast, Northern Ireland.

Handwriting has not improved since I was about 7, so please don't expect a masterpiece of calligraphy! (Expect barely legible!)

I am interested in Books, writing, Music, Politics and can find an opinion on pretty much every subject.

I am a fairly liberal person, and looking to pick up some people to correspond with. (Any age/sex/anything as long as you are interesting)

Would like to have someone on each continent.

Would also love to exchange postcards.

PM for address details.

Hey,

I'm Ashley. I'm a dad to twins, have been married for 6 8 years to a wonderful woman, and am daily learning about the depth of the love of Christ. I really miss getting something other than bills in the mail.

I'm with Carrie, though - illegible writing on poor paper - diapers for 19-month-old playschool fees for 3.5 year-old twins and a family vacation to pay for trumps any paper/ink/pen covetousness of which I could possibly conceive. I'm also a grad student getting I have recently completed my Master's in Counseling Psychology (and have some debt to pay off, now!!)

Adds up to a busy life, but I'd like to have an excuse to use my cheap Duke and Noodler's HoD various pens and inks for something other than notes at work.

I kind of feel like this is turning into a craigslist personal ad, so I'll be done now. PM if you're interested in swapping snail mail.

ash

P.S. If you feel like teaching me a new language, that would be cool (like Italian?!)...

Also, if you're down, I like the idea of fictional character letters, or building an epistolary novella or something of the like...

That was almost two years ago! Life got busy and in the way, but I have pens I want to use, and what better way then getting to know people? I've updated the pertinent pieces above...

If you're interested, I'm happy to write to a couple of guys who wish to write. Out of respect for my wife's wishes, I'll ask that only males reply.

My name is Lio, and I am interested in finding a pen pal or two. I have had a few pen pals before in the past, and thankfully it has always been a lovely experience.

I live in the United States, Florida to be exact, and I am interested in books (usually fantasy), writing poetry in my odd vernacular that has been dubbed 'star burst unicorn', taking and sharing awesome pictures of random things, adventuring, watching cartoons, inventing useless hobbies, making silly videos, video games, food, Magic; The Gathering, dragons, and telling stories.

I am slowly getting into purchasing a second pen, my first and only at the moment is Noodler's Flex nib C reaper in Cardinal Darkness. I seem to have tried out a lot of inks though, for not having more than one pen.

If you are interested, please send me a pm!:)
