Snail Mail Writing List

Hello, everyone!

So I've found a few people on here I'm going to write to but I thought I'd put myself out there in case anyone else is interested in exchanging letters.

I'm Tess. I'm 29 and live in Wisconsin with my partner, my dog, and four ferrets. I am a corporate trainer for an insurance company's compliance department.

I'm quite liberal in my politics, so open-minded my brains might be falling out, and have at times in the past lived rather unconventionally. These days I'm somewhat more settled but still an odd duck who enjoys other odd ducks.

My biggest interests are reading (nearly anything; I devour books of all sorts at frightening speed), writing (poetry, fiction, web-copy, opinion pieces), gaming (used to be online and tabletop but just tabletop these days), movies and music (again, all sorts), and animals.

I'm not conventionally religious but attend a local Unitarian Universalist fellowship and have a strong daily practice in Zen Buddhism. I spend most of my vacation days and weekends sitting zazen, reading books, cooking, and camping.

Hello all!

I'm 24, a courier for a bank in Seattle, and I live in Redmond, WA. I recently graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in lit. I love the art of correspondence, and I'm looking forward to getting more practice. I'd love to write with anyone at all, age and gender are of no concern. I enjoy spending my time with books, movies and art. I've recently gotten into cooking, and more specifically baking, so I'd be happy to share a recipe or two as well. Stories in any form have always interested me. Books, movies, myths, dreams, video games, you name it. I'm also trying to get myself more into writing fiction. Someone who would be possibly willing to read little snippets would be great.

The short version is that I've got plenty of ink, just send me a PM, and you can have some of it.

Best,

John

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi there people,

I had a pen pal from Ghana when I was a freshman in high school but she moved and we lost touch. I'd love people to write actual letters to, since I have lots of ink, some free time, and a couple pens that need using.

And stamps...

I'm 24, from Minneapolis, Minnesota, and interested in:

Architecture

History

Yachting, boats, boat-building (though I've done none of it, as the local sailing club's membership slots got filled seven minutes after opening...)

Historical maps

Roses, though my partner of three years loathes them, but allows me to have a few, since I tolerate his hosta fetish...

Cars and automotive history

Horses, dressage (haven't done that either..)

Dogs (I have a rescue that we got and fell in love with, named Adalheidis Elisabetha Margarethe Serilda Adalwolfa Von Harvey-Haag zu Clarahaus. I kept adding names that I thought fit her, but we call her Ade, but pronounced Addie, or Adèlaïde when we're exasperated with her)

I collect typewriters, since when I was in school I never was able to compose anything with that cursor blinking at me. I haven't had a chance to really use those either. I have a few Smith-Coronas, a Remington Noiseless, a Hermes 3000, and a flat Olympia traveling typewriter of some kind, and a few others, possibly.

I like government theory, and how governments in other countries and the United States work, and as strange as it sounds, I wish we had five million countries, since I'm sort of obsessed with the Holy Roman Empire and pre-unification Italy, though I really don't know how that would work. It certainly would make budgets easier to understand, by slashing a few zeroes off...

I have a tendency to ramble, and I'm not sure how it will translate when writing to another person, but I'll endeavor to keep it to your interests and brief.

I was diagnosed with Aspergers in or around 2002, and I don't get much human contact or leave the house often because new experiences and groups of people make me uncomfortable. I used to go out to a gay bar when I was 18, exploring life, since it got me away from my mother, who can be described as either strong, or overbearing, depending on my mood, though as I get older, I find that the effect of alcohol on my slight frame is disconcerting and so I don't really go out to those places anymore. One of the only reasons I actually work is for the human contact. Danny, my partner, thought it would be good for me to get out of the house, interact with people, and the paycheck is icing on the cake.

I think in practice, my letter writing would be simpler because when I type things, I tend to write long rambling sentences with commas mixed in for good measure.

If I haven't scared you off... Please PM me! I just bought some G. Lalo stationery I'm itching to use, though I'll probably run out of it and won't be able to justify the expense of replacing it.

Well Shameek here I'm from Kolkata(Calcutta),India. I'm a Graduate student of Computer Science here. My attachment to fountain pens began from childhood due to get my handwriting straight ; forced by teachers and parents. I hated fountain pens then because they leaked dried ink situations, dropped out as soon I got a chance migrated to ballpoint pens. But as last years of my high school I saw a friend using a old Wing Sung pen , I borough the pen and start writing and still writing with them since . For me main thing ballpoint pen don't offer is personalized performance meaning no matter how expensive you ballpoint pen is it will write differently every time you put a refill in.(copied from my introduction  )

Well My interests are in computers,Mathematics, music(western(I was taught western classical in my childhood), eastern),politics, cooking, philosophy(not that I'm a knowledgeable person you can teach me ),I want to say sports but nobody likes cricket I guess.Pm me you're Interested.

Ps. Nearly ten years passed since I've written a letter. I've bad handwriting but can read that I'll say

I would like to get in on this. I am known for my beautiful penmanship. I use a few select inks right now. I only use two pens at the moment as well. I want to start working on my grammar, perhaps people can help me with that. My hobbies include playing guitar and drums. Using typewriters. I have a few spiders that I love. I love the old Dietz lanterns. I have SEVERE agoraphobia that I have finally begun to overcome after twenty years of being stuck in the house. I am fascinated with Ernest Hemingway and Henry Dreyfuss. My favorite pen is a Parker Duofold although I don't own one anymore. My hope is to get one again someday. I love Trek bikes. I love Randy Rhoads, Eddie Van Halen and country music. I have had many hobbies throughout my life so I am always interested in just about anything. I was a U.S. Marine as well. Anyone want to write to me I would love to hear from you.

I'd like mail!

My name is Christina and I'm a 22 yr old college student that is about to graduate college in north California. I'm getting a dual degree in Biology and Philosophy. I like making new friends and would really like to take up correspondence with a few people and maybe establish some penpals and really good friendships. =). My passion for pens is for the way they write and the many ink choices. I haven't get gotten into the swing of the whole paper thing, but I'm learning! I'm interested in almost anything but politics, it goes right over my head. Mostly I'd like to make connection to other humans and get to use my pens in something other than notetaking. I tend to write lots if I have something to say, so you might expect long letters, or maybe even scattered notes in-between letters if I just want to say HI. I love to read and to write and I'm interested in a large breadth of things and am always (usually) willing to learn more.

Would love to get in on this if you all don't consider 63 too old for a pen pal.

I've lived an interesting life and done many things for work and otherwise. Was a member of the Royal

Canadian Air Force, a Registered Nursing Assistant, Bus Driver, etc. etc. - as I said - many and varied.

My interests, like my life are many and varied with a real love for Nature be it camping, hiking or simply

sitting by the shore of a lake listening to the call of a loon. At the present I do volunteer work for a local

Nursing Home.

To my way of thinking there's nothing nicer then getting something in my snail mail that isn't a bill and that is

actually addressed to me in handwriting.

Hello Snail Mailers!

This is a great idea that I'd love to join in with. In no particular order I'd like to make new friends, put my pens to more use than they currently get, and feel the joy of receiving a letter that somebody has put some effort into writing and sending. I'm in IT so 99% of what I do is via e-mail which is very sad when you think about it, it's so impersonal, and too easy to send without thought (I get plenty of thoughtless e-mails!)

I live in the South West of England, though I'm from the North originally. I've moved about a bit and lived in Paris and Brussels for a few years and have seen quite a bit of Europe both with work and for pleasure.

My fountain pen related interests (so far - I'm new to this so I am sure they will grow) are improving my hand writing, Italian pens, motor sport related pens, vintage Esterbrooks and learning about fixing them up, oh, and the search for the 'perfect' ink (a search I am sure will never end).

I am an IT Manager for a medium sized charity that runs retirement villages, a job I love with a passion.

I'm married to a wonderful Scottish lady who is a teacher and we have a wonderful 5 year old daughter who never fails to bring a smile to my face.

I'm happy to discuss ~any~ topic be it serious or frivolous. I'm not religious, though have views on religion. I have been known to shout at the car radio on my way to work in the morning if I get annoyed at what a politician is saying, but really I'm quite a placid sort of a fellow.

For fun I like to watch motor sport, tinker with my cars, and ride my mountain bike. I like to cook and bake when I get time. I generally read science fiction, trashy or otherwise, but my degree is in English literature so I'd happily discuss books with more of a pedigree. I'm also an avid watcher of films, though I'm usually months behind the latest releases as our 5 year old prefers going to see films about talking chipmunks over gritty drama

I think I can realistically take on a commitment to write to one or two people to start with, I'm happy to write first. I will try my very best to reply to letters promptly, but my daughter has a very busy schedule (far more than me!) with Horse riding, ballet, endless birthday parties, and so on, so sometimes that may lapse - apologies in advance if that happens.

Oh, nearly forgot, my name is Greg.

Hello fellow FPN’rs!

I’m freshly 21, a guy, and I love fountain pens!

During these few sweet summer months I’m in vacation mode, but during the school year I’m an undergrad pursuing pharmacy dentistry. Although I’m majoring in science I still love and greatly respect the arts. If you want to write to me about your favorite musicians (of any genre: rap, opera, jazz, rock, country, etc) painters, actors, etc, then I’ll lend an ear to listen.

Likewise if you want to delve into the complexity of life I’m yours too – in our consumer world where gratification is instant and everything must happen immediately it is easy to look past the nuances of life – but these subtleties can be most interesting and rewarding if you give them a peek.

For good measure I’ll throw a laundry list of my interests here: working out, running on forest trails with my Vibrams, biking, drinking the best beer + liquor I can find (Belgian anyone?), drawing, deluding myself into thinking I’m eating healthy, plotting where I will travel the world, watching a zillion different movies on Netflix, working on my car (detailing/tuning it up), and every 21 year old male’s favorite pastime – video games!

I’ll be sending you a letter on Rhodia paper, but I want to try out Clairefontaine and even wax seals.

If you want to become my BFF/pen pal I only ask you write the first letter. Why? Because it’s easier to reply than compose!

Best,

thaigreentea

I like talking to people and hearing their life experience stories -- way better to me than any novel. Usually it's people 60 and older -- but good stories can come at any age. I'm 47, married to a great wife and live in the US. As long as you can read and write English, whether around the block or around the world, that's fine by me. I'm interested in hearing what's important, memorable and unique in your day or in your life. I'm partial to the UK and sheepdog herding, so if you are a FP'er with a working sheepdog, I think I would have died and gone to heaven.

Re-posting myself here because I've been doing pretty much nothing but work for what feels like an eternity. It'd be great to pick this up again.

Anyway... Hi, I'm Chris! I'm 28, and I live in Wiltshire in England with a very bossy pet cat. I have a pretty boring office job, but when I'm not doing that I enjoy cycling, computer games, reading, getting outdoors (subject, of course, to the British weather) I've just started tinkering with a little astronomy.

If you'd like to write, just let me know :)

Hi All,

Just a quick post to add that I now have three people to write to, so I'm going to see how I get on with keeping up with that before I take on any more... Thanks all!

I would love to exchange snail mail with a few people. I love to use beautiful paper and ink, but I rarely have someone to exchange letters with anymore. I started writing little encouraging notes to people in my church just to have an excuse to use my pens!

I am a high school English teacher finishing my master's degree so I can teach some college classes. Besides school, I read, garden (mostly flowers) and raise poultry. I also enjoy music and drama. I am happily married, but my partner in crime is my mother. We go see movies together whenever we can--a little of everything. The most recent was Midnight in Paris, which I liked and she thought was so-so.

Oh! Just because I like to use nice paper and ink doesn't mean that I expect those back in return. If you want to write me some chicken scratches on college ruled Mead that is fine. It's the thought that counts!

I've lived in Texas for the last eleven years, but prior that that I lived a little bit of everywhere: Iowa, California, Wisconsin, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Heilbronn Germany, Alsbach Germany.

Where does the time go? It's been a year, so it is time for an update. A few things have changed, but the important things have stayed the same. I now have a handful of treasured penpals, some of whom have turned into wonderful friends. I still love to use beautiful paper and ink, and I still apprecuate letters written on just about any kind of paper.

After a very stressful year, I am looking for a new school, but I will still be teaching. I have taken a sabbatical from my master's classes for now, but I am experiencing a personal renaissance of sorts rediscovering some old loves that I have not had time for in a long while.

I still watch movies with my partner in crime, but nowadays we are more likely to stay in and catch something on Netflix or Amazon. We've recently been watching a lot of foreign films.

I am looking for a couple more penpals. Every few months (mostly December and the end of May) I get overloaded with work responsibilities and may take a little longer to answer, but I always write back. Usually, it is within a few days.

Send me a PM if you are interested, and I'll give you my address.

Hi everyone, I'm Alison, from Lancashire, England.

Rediscovering my love of all things inky and the realising that my love of techy gadgets means that apart from a to do list and a journal, I'm just not using my pens!

I'm also fed up with only receiving bills and circulars on my doormat - I'm looking forward to seeing some handwritten envelopes dropping through my letter box instead :)

I haven't had a pen friend since I was 14 and had to write in French as an exchange student. Something i wasn't very good at :(

About me:

  •
  • I'm 42, live in the North West of England
  • I have my own online business
  • I have a husband, two daughters and a dog.
  • I like reading thrillers on my Ipad, watching US dramas, cooking, and playing the odd video game.
  • I'm a Liberal, vaguely spiritual and love conversation.

My pen of the moment is my Noodler's panther pink flex with Black Swans in Australian Roses.

I really don't mind who you are or where you live - interesting peeps are very welcome :)

Please pm me if you'd like to connect.

I'd like to throw my name on the list as well. I'm a newbie here to the forums, and FP's in general. Unfortunately, most of my correspondence these days is done on a keyboard in front of a monitor. I'd like to put a pen to paper to connect in ways that e-mail and message boards just can't properly convey.

I'm a 26 year old from Wisconsin. Yes, I love cheese. And beer. That's pretty much all we do around here. Oh! and cheer for our Packers.

I work full-time as a receiving supervisor, I enjoy riding motorcycles, fishing, hunting, and the shooting sports in general. "Guy stuff."

I'd consider myself to be an intelligent redneck. I'm quite smart, but I'm a bit of a 'country boy.'

I'm new when it comes to this whole penpal type of arrangement... I haven't done this since elementary school, and even then it was through a translator with students from China. It proved to be a fun and educational experience for me, and hopefully I can get an opportunity to bring that back into my routine.

If you have any questions or would like to exchange addresses, shoot me a private message and we'll take it from there.

Nate

Dear FPNers

My name is Nick, and I am desperate for an excuse to improve my atrocious (really) hand. I'm a medic and as we're moving to electronic records, I can no longer inflict my drunken spider writing (actually more like crack using spider)on the medical notes. Which frankly is a mercy for most people who have to read them.

I like Fps because they are an affordable ostentation for men (unlike watches, mistresses or cars, which aren't), reek of style, are slightly fiddly and have great tactile quality.

I live in Dorset in England and ask myself nearly every day how can I have spent so much time and achieved so little. I'm married with 2 girls, 2 dogs (girls) and 2 horses (1 girl, 1 gelding. I am outnumbered.)I spend far too much time faffing on line, playing slightly embarrassing table top games with small plastic soldiers and, until recently, getting my a** handed to me at various local combat sports clubs. My wife is usually pretty tolerant, bless her.

I also read, write poetry, tell huge porkies very well and little ones badly. I am an atheist unless I'm really frightened.

So, PM me. It'll give me an excuse to buy some decent paper too!

Hello, I enjoy writing letters to other FPN's and I have regulars I write to. I'm looking to add a couple more people to write to. I have a variety of interests which you can find out about on my profile.

God is my Strength.

Hey there,

I'm interested in a pen pal, I'm 24, male, currently completing an electrical apprenticeship. I can only read and write English. I'm from Brisbane, the capital of Queensland, Australia. My interests include electronics, writing/journalling, philosophy, bushwalking and reading fictional works ranging from Fyodor Dostoevsky to Joseph Heller.

Let me know if you're interested.

Hi count me in on this too.

My name is Lorrie from Derby, UK. I have been grazing the internet for about 15 years. I'm a touch-typist wanting to re-capture my youth - i'm 34 but i'd rather be 24. I am single no kids that I know of :).

I have had a strange life until now i'll tell you when you write to me. My interests are Cycling, I'm not one of those serious 50 miles a day rider, but its how I get about. Have two heads... sorry i'm going off into la la land. I like cooking - who doesn't. Hate cheese - it stinks! I like to read travel writing books. Erm.. erm.. i'm not sure what else to write. Perhaps someone out there can give me a few pointers?

May I also throw my hat into the ring? I have one penpal and would like another. My interests are varied but include reading, walking and I have a passion for music. One of my great pleasures is using my pens and I keep a diary and have done for many years. Diaries do not write back and that is the downside for me.
