Snail Mail Writing List

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone! The very kind GreenVelvet suggested I post my message over here... I had it as a separate topic...

https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php?/topic/215302-brick-mortar-snail-mail-list/

Basically, I have several customers at my new shop who would like to write with others, but their friends and family are unlikely to write back. "Why don't you just text or email?" So I was hoping to collect a few addresses to get a correspondence book going to have at the counter here, wish some contact details and a few interests. I don't know how successful this will be, but I thought this community would be a good group to ask! I've made some new friends in writing this way myself.

I've also had a pen pal for the last 25 years, and I value what you can learn in that kind of relationship, about someone far away and about yourself.

If you are interested, please send me a message with your info, or you can email info at keweenawarchive dot com. Your info won't be used for any other reason - I promise. In fact, I'm just going to copy them into a notebook here at the counter and that's as far as it will go.

We're an art and writing supply shop in a two-university region, total population under 20,000. If you'd like to make a friend in Upper Michigan, let us know! Thanks for your time!

I'm attaching an image of (some of) the shop, in cased anyone's curious.

Keep up with everything going on in our shop and our region! News and other stuff on our Facebook page.

Hello Fountain Pen Network,

I am looking at a collection of beautiful stationery that has been sitting unused on my desk for quite some time. I miss writing letters, so I thought I would try out the FPN letter exchange.

My name is Julie. I am 24 years old, and I recently moved back to the USA from Hong Kong. Adding to my cultural confusion-- I come from a British family.

I have a BA in political science, and I am currently in school for a BA in English Literature. I am constantly reading (anything I can get my hands on), I have traveled to nearly 50 different countries, and I drink entirely too much tea. I do improvisational comedy in my "spare time." I like to do volunteer work. I love a good story.

I'd like to think of myself as a realistic optimist. Even in the face of the ugly bits of life, there is often adventure, beauty, and wisdom to be discovered.

I'm interested in learning about nearly any subject whether it is thought-provoking and deep, funny and light, or simply commentary on whatever is happening.

Feel free to send me a message if you would like to exchange letters!

Good Afternoon Everyone,

My name is Robert and I am looking forward to making some new friends thru letter writing. If anyone is interested you can PM me for my address.

My interest are cooking, gardening, outdoors, hunting, living in a rural area. I have worked in the HVAC Trade for 30 years and I am now exploring

other career paths to finish out my working life. I inherited an Esterbrook SJ Fountain pen and Sheaffer mechanical pencil from the 40"s from my fathers estate. I am still learning about vintage fountain pens at this time. I am looking forward to some creative letter writing.

Hello! Call me Tsades, and I am a college student in California studying CS. My main interests are travel, arts, technology, and technology :puddle: , but I enjoy learning and talking about anything (surprise me).

As a CS major, I typically don't write; amazingly, the first time I penned a letter in my life was two months ago. That was also how I discovered how horrendous my handwriting had become. Thus, I'm looking for a penpal or two, so I can work on my handwriting and also learn things about other places and cultures.

Who am I looking for? Pretty much anyone--male, female, young, not-so-young  . I'd especially love to communicate with someone outside the US, because I think culture differences are fantastic conversation fodder. I'd also prefer someone with a healthy FPN presence/history, as I'm new to pen pals and would feel more comfortable with someone who's a regular contributor to FPN.

Send me a message if you're interested, and let's get going!

I'm a 41 year old retired submariner. My undersea journeys took me from the equator to the north pole. I enjoy all things Apple, writing software, smoking pipes, fishing, history, and of course fountain pens. I'd love to exchange correspondence with anyone around the world. Just send me a PM!

Hi everyone, my name is Julie, I'm 43, and I'm from NYC, where I live with my husband and 3 cats. My husband doesn't understand the whole fountain pen thing so it would be nice to strike up friendships with people who do!

I'm a medical editor, and I love history, baseball, animals, cooking, music (I'm an 80s girl so my tastes tend to revolve around that era), reading (mostly mysteries) traveling, antiques, and a bunch of other stuff I can't think of off the top of my head. I can correspond in French and Italian, although I' afraid my grammar in both languages is far from perfect...

Would be happy to hear from people anywhere and everywhere--tell me about your life, your pens and inks, your friends/family/pets, good books you've read lately, whatever you like!

I figure I'll throw my hat in the game as well. I'm very new to the site, but have a love of fountain pens that goes back a long time! I'm 29 live in Memphis with my wife and our 4 month old son. I love me some baseball esp the Red Sox, football, fishing, and just about anything outdoors.

I work in the logistics business as an office manager and IT manager. Very small company so I get double duties just not double pay!

I've never had a penpal before and with work I may not be able to reply right away but I've got pens and ink to use so let's see what happens!

Greetings,

I'm an engineering student (almost graduated) from Istanbul, Turkey. I'm interested in literature, all kinds of music, politics, business, video games, technology, environment, philosophy; and more than those, I'm interested in every topic you might write.

The last time I wrote a letter was almost 15 years ago, when I was in the elementary school. So, thought it would be great to have pen friends. I don't care who you are, how old you are and about your gender. PM me for my address.

Hey everyone!

My name is Mike and after a small hiatus with no FPN, I'm finally able to start having a little bit of time for more things that I enjoy.

Before I stopped visiting FPN regularly, I was starting get the feeling I was going to be spending a pretty penny on fountain pens - all the while, not having enough time to properly use the ones I already have! I think getting a pen pal would be a fun and interesting way to do so. Like many, I haven't written a proper letter in years.

I've recently purchased a home with my fiancee and we are in the process or fixing up the property and planning our wedding later in the year. Kids most likely won't be far down the road!

I'm currently a Tech Support Analyst for a small-sized company - with the four person department, "Technical Support" ends up meaning "Just about anything with a computer/server" so it works out great! I've been a gamer in the past, but haven't done much aside from a little WoW in the last few years.

Send me an email or PM if you're interested in setting something up. Even for just a reason to pull out a pen and jot something down - I'm all ears! (Any suggestions for my future endeavors would be great too! Marriage - how hard can it be  )

Suppose you read the paragraph below:

Send me a PM and let's start writing letters! I literally have no preference who you are (international letters welcome!): you are already interesting by writing a letter :P. I also speak Spanish, Portuguese (a bit rusty), and French if you'd like to communicate that way.

Oh, my name's Alfredo btw.

Just wondering Alfredo, do you speak English?

Hi I would like to find a female penpal from overseas. I love learning about other cultures and just think it would be interesting to write to someone outside the US.

I am 40 year old female with three kids 20, 11 and 7. I have been married for 22 years. My interests besides fountain pens are old movies, period pieces, reading (varying tastes Jane Austen, mysteries, classic novels) I also enjoy quilting and hiking.

Hi

I have a very specific reason for posting on this thread - I'm very keen to hear from any perfumistas we have lurking on FPN. :D If you spend just as much time on Basenotes, Fragrantica and NST as you do here, drop me a line. I'd love an excuse to write letters and, as an added bonus, swap perfume samples etc.

When I'm not obsessing over notepaper and drooling over the latest Keiko Mecheri release, I study Latin and Mathematics, compete in a battle of wits with my two cats and play board games like Carcassonne, Tigris & Euphrates etc. Yes, I also visit Boardgamegeek.com from time to time... When I'm not indulging my inner geek I eat cakes (I love baking), mourn the loss of my garden (it's currently covered in concrete - LONG story) and test perfumes (blog to follow shortly). I live just outside of London with my SO in a house that is in a seemingly constant state of renovation.

If you're interested, PM me and we can exchange addresses!

(Since this is such a specific request, I'm going to post a separate thread, I hope nobody minds...)

Hello, my username in the FPN is Korybas.

Hmmm, let me give you some info about myself:

I am living in Athens, Greece. No kids, no family. Spiritual, not religious. Loved the fountain pens from elementary school and I am using them practically to write everything - from shopping lists to letters and essays. Kind of addicted to Stub nibs... Do not have many pens, but I use them all and love them! I am always looking to learn something about FP, and all the people here are most obliging and helpful! My interests are Oryctology (collecting crystals and minerals), crystal healing and meditation, traveling, reading books and Freemasonry.

In a nutshell, that is all. If anyone is interested, please PM me.

Hello, my username in the FPN is Penitent.

I live in the great Northeast of the United states and am most likely close to death than birth at this point:

I had a one time been very focused on pens probably to a fault but now I satisfy myself with 4 pens that I enjoy writing with and an equal amount of ink colors. Pens are rather personal things so I try and shy away from opinions on them or manufacturers for that matter. I have travelled to Asia and enjoyed having a seal created each trip for me to use.

I presently write to 3 people one of which is hitting 2 decades of correspondence but would enjoy writing to others.

I have been told that I'm at times amusing and at other times interesting as I keep a wide range of interests.

With his industrious crew, to build in Hell

  • 2 weeks later...

I've posted on here before, but fell off writing for about a year and a half. I would like to start writing to penpals again, new ones as well as former if any are still interested. I would love to hear from people from anywhere in the world, especially those that share my love for home brewing beer, mead, and cider, rugby, languages, wetshaving, or anything else! Look forward to putting my pens to use again!

After enduring a significant amount of personal and physical turmoil and trauma, I am returning to the snail mail list in hopes of finding (snaring?) a few new correspondents.

Below I'll share interests and the like, but the main thing I am looking for are people who want to talk about *something*. Letters and notes that about what kind of paper, pen, and ink are being used for that note are not (in themselves) enough for me. In truth, I usually know just what kind of paper I am using, but I often am unsure of anything but the major brand of the pen and have no idea which my many inks I am using!

But if you want to correspond about something you care--and want to talk--about, I'm your man!

Things I am into: pens and paper, of course-- I'm almost as into paper/stationery/notebooks as I am pens; books/reading-- to give you a sense of that I am currently reading through all of Shakespeare's histories and tragedies, Montaigne's essays, and a variety of classic sci-fi and mysteries both British and American; poetry, which I write and read; writing in general, which I do a lot of; origami, which I am a beginner at, but enthusiastic about; making handmade books and journals, a new interest for me; culture, technology, and education-- particularly the intersections thereof... if you've read Shirky, Lanier, Turkle, Carr, etc... then that could be fun... I am an educational technologist by trade; intellectual property, copyright, and creative freedom; television and movies... I am a casual fan of the latter, the former I watch only on DVD/NetFlix; cooking, particularly ethnic cuisine, and baking, particularly breads of all kinds; typography, letterpress, fine printing; coffee and tea; and language, grammar, and general word geekery.

I can also tell you all about Alaska if you can tell me something about someplace else!

Also, if you would like to receive a handwritten (in my unbeautiful hand) poem or a snippet of beautiful prose in your mail box, I try to send out 6-12 per week as part of a personal project. These are works by other authors unless a request is made otherwise!

Either way (or both), please PM me!
