Snail Mail Writing List

So, I'm updating my post to see if I can snag a foreign language pen pal, mainly Italian or Spanish (any thing else would require EXTENSIVE use of google translate). I would be ever so grateful to anyone who might be willing to put up with my efforts to learn :)

Sample Request: I really really want to try Diamine Steel Blue. I will trade you samples!

Hi everyone,

I'm 20 year old female currently studying Law at University. I live in London, UK. I enjoy music, pens (of course!!), going to the theatre and art galleries. I would not mind a pen pal at all, I used to have one, however we lost contact. Anyone welcome!

Can we write a reply, scan it, and e-mail it as a pdf?

No  ... these are "real" letters written and sent via a postal service ... on paper with stamps and everything!

Can we write a reply, scan it, and e-mail it as a pdf?

This method may work for some people, if they wish. I did the write/scan/email pdf with some of my pen friends during the Canada Post strike and our move this summer, as a way to keep in touch. It worked very well, although we chose to return to the postal snail mail method after I got my address arranged.

Worked for me Jane :clap1: :clap1: :clap1: :clap1:

I'm updating too to see if I can collect any more penpals :) My wife keeps asking if I am trying to get a pen friend in each of the 50 (is that the correct number?) states of the USA. Actually I am interested in pen pals from any country in the world. I don't seem to have any in France for some reason, which I think is a real shame. I am only able to correspond in English, I'm afraid.

I'm a 45 year old married guy living in north west England. Apart from pens I am interested in reading, photography, brass bands, genealogy and motorcycling. I also like to travel, when I can, in western Europe.

I am interested in corresponding with people who have varied interests, the only thing I really can't see any purpose in is football (soccer), but anything else is fair game with me.

I'm kind of new to fountain pens, but I love writing pen pals! I only have 1 pen pal right now, but I would love to have more. I live in Arlington Texas USA and would like to receive letters from a lady in another country.

I'm a Christian stay at home wife with 4 grown (and married) children, 2 grand sons and 1 grand baby on the way. I love spending time with my family and friends, having huge barbecues, game nights, movie nights or just hanging out having fun. Cooking, baking cupcakes and making desserts is my passion. I also enjoy lots of hobbies, like making baby quilts, creating digital scrapbooks, making home made soap, taking pictures, and I've recently added, writing with a FP!

So, if you would like to write me, please send me a message! :clap1:

Hey all!

I'd love to start writing more letters, and getting some in return. I am a 29 y/o male in Boise, ID. I've been married for the last 6 years (today!) and have two kids, 5 year old boy & a 6 mo old girl. I love pens, I've been fascinated by them from an early age. I am also an origami enthusiast, dig on cars quite a bit, and a massive amount of other interests. I can't remember the last time I wrote a real letter, but I use my pens to write quick thank you and happy anniversary letters to my customers. More than happy to talk to anyone about anything, but I can only offer this in English. Looking forward to hearing from some folks!

Edit: Wanted to add a bit more about myself. I am a car salesman, LOVE (american) football, and follow on occasion hockey, soccer, and really any sort of sport. I've been known to watch darts and yo-yo competitions, so any show of skill will win me over. I have two cars, both of which are orange, and we're considering adding a third orange into the mix. Recently I've gotten far more into pens, I would say I have about 10 that I rotate through for myself, and I like to fix & restore them as a hobby.

Greetings,

I've always been a bit of a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. On one hand, I'm a smidge of a Luddite and on the other I'm perpetually fascinated by new and shiny gadgets. In the end, the Luddite usually wins out and I always revert to what I find natural: pen, paper, etc.

I'd love to have a leisurely chat with someone via snail mail. Here's a bit about myself:

Married (9 years), no kids, human resource director for a large multi-national corp, non-religious (read atheist if it helps), lover of philosophy, fascinated by religion, and very much an open book.

Topics I typically find most interesting are religion and politics. HOWEVER, while I love to talk to folks of radically different opinions, I will only do so as a mutually respectful dialogue. No attempts to convert, bully or proselytize. But there's nothing more wonderful than learning about a different viewpoint or exploring differences of opinion in a respectful way.

It goes without saying that I really love pens. I've recently gotten into FP's and absolutely am having a ball with them. I also collect watches, dig circa notebooks, am interested in personal organization (GTD, etc), and am a cat lover along with my wife. I would be happy to talk about just about any of these topics or even anything else. I travel extensively, which means I have time in airports, etc to scribble a letter.

Thanks and take care,

brett

Count me in!

I wouldn't mind receiving a letter every now and then, nor writing one myself. I'm a 30-year old bloke, writing my master's thesis and looking for use for my pens. I enjoy good conversation and everything genuine with substance over fancy wrappings -in general, I'm a very ordinary bloke with ordinary thoughts. Buzzwords, hmm...Drawing, graphic design, blues/fusion/poprock, guitars, Stephen Fry, Sean Lock, Steely Dan, The Guess Who, 10cc, The Band...what else? Too many very dear bands to list here, that's for sure. Sunny autumn days, the feel of new pair of jeans or a pair of new shoes. All that.

Hi,

My user name is zekemilli4. My first name is James. I am rather new to the Fountain Pen Network. A little bit about myself, I am 31 years old, and reside in Iowa here in the United States.

I enjoy reading, riding a bike, writing letters with my various fountain pens, I love all different types of music, and love learning new things and meeting new people. I would love to start writing letters to people once again.

I have no real preference as to who I write to or where they are located. I am not judgemental as I have met people from all walks of life. I am a person who is not afraid to share my opinion on subjects when prompted. If anyone is interested in having a penpal who will write back faithfully, you may email me at zekemilli4@yahoo.com . Please put in the subject header "penpal request" and I will respond as soon as I can and we can exchange information. Take care and I look forward to hearing from you!

I remember going to a little calligraphy shop in State College, PA and looking around at all the different things that people were doing with pens. My father bought a Waterman Phileas and some Montblanc ink that day and took it home. I was 10 or 11y/o and wasn't much of a fan of writing or reading; i thought of them as the banes of my existence. But of course everyone finds that ONE book, or does that ONE writing project that gets them hooked. I had found mine in the 6th grade and have never turned back. I'm a bookworm and I love to write. I write all kinds of things (philosophy, poetry, fiction, persuasive pieces), but I try to stick with poetry and fiction.

The more I read the more I grew to love things old fashioned (i read some pretty old stuff, the good stuff; Dickens, Dumas, Hugo, Poe, Dante) and now I'm working on creating a little corner for myself to write comfortably and I'm hoping to add some more candles into the scene (writing by candlelight is breathtaking and really puts you in the mindset to write, even if you don't want to). I only just started writing letters to a friend who is going to school in Pittsburgh and found that I enjoy it very much and hope to have the same experience with any kind soul from anywhere in the world.

Next on the list is some sealing wax and a stamp. ^_^

Hi again, I'm adding myself with a revised bio bit, since my life has changed quite a bit since I first posted here and I'm now in a position to send and receive letters.

I'm 25, my name is Peter and I'm from Malta. "Pietru" is the Maltese form of the name (pronounced something like peer-true). I'm studying theology at university, after dabbling in classics (if you're looking for somebody to write letters in Latin, I might manage the odd epigram but that's it!) and finished an English degree. I'm interested in religion, culture, literature and the natural world. Specifically though, I enjoy writing and reading just about more than anything, though meeting new people and sampling various kinds of cider is up there too. I write interviews and theatre reviews for a local newspaper, so I'm interested in the performing arts. I enjoy using flex nibs, and I'm always playing around with my handwriting (but it is usually legible, I promise). Right now I'm reading a lot about the Victorians and authors from the period, especially Augustus Hare.

Do feel free to pm me, I think it might be fun to learn more about other countries and ways of life. Best wishes from the Mediterranean!

I would love to have some penpals.

I've been happily married for almost 6 years, we have 3 dogs and I adore animals in general, no kids but I have 7 nephews and 2 nieces so I'm not completely kid illiterate :). I'm into music, everything from Joplin, Croche, SRV to the loud and obnoxious. I love reading cheesy fiction and am a noncommittal gamer. I can usually find something interesting in most subjects, which means I have lots of trivial (usually useless) bits of knowledge and I'm open to most topics. I find various religions fascinating, but don't follow any. I was the kid who would rather be at the library or in the pen/paper aisle than the toy department. Many childhood hours were spent with an encyclopedia that had pictures of Copperplate writing, never did get my writing to look like the pictures *sigh*. Now I'm a pen/ink hoarder, meaning I'd rather get a bunch of cheaper pens and more ink rather than one expensive pen I'd be afraid to use (but will very happily drool over anyone else's expensive pens).

I have a love for old things made new and maintaining their character. I'm 33 and live in Mississippi

I've been married...twice now and have two children. I like philosophy, sports, poetry and smoking cigars with a nice glass of wine. I believe in living life with honor and loyalty to friends and loved ones above all else.

I've recently gotten into fountain pens and love them as well as all the different inks.

I am religious but not a preacher and always respectful to others beliefs. I enjoy learning about others ways of life, viewpoints, ideals, I do not enjoy arguing but a jarful comedic retort in debate is entertaining. I believe laughter is the best medicine and enjoy peaceful silence.

General writing conversation, sharing personal experiences from life would be intriguing. I almost think the idea of getting advice from a total stranger might me relieving for some strange reason too... (I hope that doesn't frighten anyone LOL)

Please drop me a line I'd love to try this!

Cordially, Christopher

OK, I've finally decided to throw my name in there as well.

What I like to do -- I like using fountain pens. Obviously. Next in line, I like to play guitar although it is not my first passion. I love to read and mess with ideas. I love essay and fiction. I like ideas a lot. That's how I am built. Expect a conversation or six about what I am currently learning in college. I'm currently taking courses in communication and am eager to apply what I am learning. Not to mention, I enjoy writing by hand.

My goals include getting good grades, writing that illusive novel and short story, graduating from college with a degree, and pursuing my passions. Kinda vague, in a way.

What conversations interest me -- new and old concepts alike, especially from people who have completely different perspectives than I do. I like engaging with humans too. (Dry joke! Seriously, you should stop laughing that much.)

I like getting at the truth of things. I like philosophy. I like semiotics. I like theology. I like history. I like asking questions and learning. I am a "deep thinker" as some have called it.

Wow, you're probably thinking, "He must like school!" If such a statement exists in your mind, my reply to said statement would be, "I do".

Don't get me wrong. Small talk is nice, too.

This post is designed to be brief because it isn't snail mail. =)

Time to pitch in my name as well. I'm Karlo Avenido, from Vancouver, Canada. I immigrated from the Philippines 2 years ago, and I'm now currently studying at Simon Fraser University, taking Psychology and Linguistics for a double major, and hoping for a minor degree in French. I'm 19, and I would like to receive advice on earning graduate degrees since I'm interested in taking my psychology degree further, hoping to become a therapist. I speak English, Filipino, and French, and I play the flute. I'm classically-trained, although I adore jazz standards of the 40's-50's (aka The Great American Songbook).

I have a deep interest in languages, music, and poetry. And getting to know people, as well.

Cheers!

If anyone doesn't mind my terrible handwriting, I'd love to participate.

My name is Rachael and I am a social worker. I investigate child abuse and neglect. Before that, I taught Spanish for 9 years at the elementary and middle school levels. I have been married for almost 10 years and live in north eastern Maryland. I don't have any children, but I do have a couple of furry "children", Sully and Sebau (a retired racing greyhound and a mutt.) My background is anthropology and Spanish Literature, and I have always had a great interest in Latin and illuminated manuscripts. My hobbies inlcude reading, researching whatever piques my interest at the moment, growing orchids, gardening, drawing, kayaking, and of course, fountain pens. I also sew, but mainly just for clothing repairs and to make collars for my dogs or to donate them to greyhound adoption groups to raise money to cover medical expenses for the dogs waiting for adoption. I am hoping to return to school for my LCSW.

Hello! I would very much like a pen pal, but it might be a couple weeks after I get any responses, as I will need to set up a mailing address and do not wish to spend the money to do so until I have a reason.

My name is Brandy. I am 22 and live in Louisiana, close to New Orleans. I am currently in the process of taking over my father's air conditioning business. I am not in school, but have been thinking about returning after I get this business business taken care of. I have two cats and two hamsters, and I think the world of them. My interests include making soap, outdoor adventures, gardening, and saving money whenever I can. I'm a new hockey fan and have been following the Bruins for a few years. My boyfriend considers me to be a bit of a nerd. I love Tolkien's work and have recently begun reading comic books.

That's pretty much everything about me. If you'd like to write, know that I have been trying so very hard to improve my handwriting, but it isn't anywhere near perfect. I might not be the most interesting person to talk to, but I feel that to some, I might be easier to talk to than a lot of people here with multiple degrees and who "dabble in" you know, stuff like archaeology. Don't get me wrong, I have absolutely nothing against smart people who apply themselves in life, but I felt pretty intimidated reading all of those bios. PM me if you're interested, and if you find that I'm not to your liking, you can drop me without a question asked.
