Snail Mail Writing List

Recommended Posts

What a pleasure it would be in this world of quickly fading thoughts, to reach out to others who also take the time to enjoy some of the quieter pursuits. I am from NYC and teach English in a NYC public school. I enjoy many things including art glass, poetry, teddy bears and admiring the gorgeous jewelry ads in the NY Times ( delivered to our school). I frequent Tiffany's in the city, where I constantly visit the large yellow diamond on the first floor (with the bird perched on top) to make sure they are taking proper care of it for me.... Since I am a lefty, please forgive my handwriting if you actually do write to me!

you could count me in

I am married to the Noble Savage. I am a former military photojournalist, I run a motion picture lab for the Dept of Defense and still pick up the camera now and again. I also enjoy art mostly sketching and painting (something I want to learn). I am a confessed chocaholic going through the DT's from eating chocolate bunnies.

I am currently snailing with several members of this board and find it a delightful experience. I received 5 pms today and each one had no message. What's going on with the pm feature of this board..or is it just me???

Tom,

Thanks for the info. It's amazing, when I grew up we didn't have one computer in the house, now we have three!

Well here I go again. Like I don't have enough people to write to. Well I don't think so anyway. I have tons of paper that I have to use up before my husband will let me buy more so I have to get to writing more. Hope he doesn't complain about stamps now!!! Interests are fountain pens of course. been using those since grammar school where we had to use them. Also paper. I see I buy, but not for awhile now, got to use up a lot. Ink is in there too. I try to use ink to match my mood or the paper or just because. I can't quite figure it out yet. Been looking for the perfect signature color and haven't come across it yet. Maybe my colors change too fast. Enough. If you'd like to write and ramble or talk pens I would love to write back. Maybe some of you I already write to that's all right too. See ya in the mail.

Username: Sonnet

Brief Bio: Early 20s, former reporter, current administrative assistant [aka "secretary"] at major metropolitan university in the states [east coast]. Have been interested in fountain pens since I was about 9 years old but my collection has only taken off in the last year or so. I'm leaning more towards Pelikan pens now and am even thinking about selling a few pens that I rarely use. I graduated from university last year with a bachelor of arts in communications [see first sentence, 3rd and 4th words, of my brief bio to see how well THAT turned out]. In case you're wondering, I did not graduate from the school that I currently work for. But I did just sign up for their co-ed faculty/staff softball team ;)

Other interests: reading, writing, music [most anything except rap and country]; Sluggy Freelance web comic; occasional blogging; sci-fi/fantasy; Macs; paper and ink; cats and dogs; trying to write a novel but not doing a very good job.

So there you go :)

I received my first two snails and have answered them...

Now I can't wait for a response..

First snails were basically a nice introduction to each other, just like meeting over coffee... fantastic..

I forgot how much I enjoyed talking with friends over coffee ... now I can do it long distance via snail mail.

About Me:

I'm a twenty-something Australian who fiddles about with computers and such for a large industrial mining company. I also study part-time toward my university degree.

I'm a creative soul. I am a serious amateur photographer shooting digital and film. I shoot stills and landscapes, some macro. I'll happily shoot with 1973 film SLR or a 8MP DSLR. I make wheel pottery, and I used to paint with acrylics or watercolours, but haven't done that for awhile. I've always loved stationery, and have amassed enough to stock a small office supply store, but have really only focused on fine fountain pens for the last couple of years.

I like old Hitchcock movies, bad 80's movies, corny action movies, and a few good classics - love Lord of the Rings also. I enjoy reading crime (fact and fiction), autobiographies, and some sci-fi / fantasy. I love Star Trek, M*A*S*H and Law & Order. I love all cats, and like larger family dogs. My partner and I currently have a spoilt little tabby cat.

More info under my Profile link. :)

Sounds fun to me. Sign me up for a letter or three or however many feel like showing up.

As to me, I am currently in my fourth year of college at Ferris State University in lovely Big Rapids, MI. My degree is a computer degree with an emphasis on hardware, but I am also working towards my MBA before I even graduate. Sounds crazy but I never said I was normal. I don't watch much tv since I haven't really seen anything worthwhile on there in quite a few years. I enjoy reading quite a bit, especially sci-fi/fantasy. Outside of the school, I enjoy playing racquetball and working on my antique cars and tractors. By antique, I mean that my car is probably older than everybody on this board. Anything else, feel free to ask.

There is no excuse for reality.

Oh, definitely. I have always enjoyed writing letters, but it's only been recently that I have realized the joy of using a decent pen and paper. (Notebook paper and a BIC was it, for a long time.)

Please see bio under the new members section. Also other posts. My primary interest is in learning about this new world in any and all respects, because I'm a writer and planning to write a mystery series set in the FP world.

That said, I have any number of other interests, which are listed in the bio section. I actually do have the time and energy to write back. In fact, though I can and certainly do "do" email, all the time ... I've always preferred real letters and notes. It's terribly important for me to even see different handwriting with different pens and inks. I know that sounds odd, but...that's part of it, the whole experience.

Plus, you people just seem terribly nice. Anyone overseas game? Or in or around Cleveland, OH? (That's where this new series is going to be set, for reasons I'll explain if and when you write to me! Or I'll start. Doesn't matter.

Namaste

I'm game. I'll be having some time off from work starting in August as I recover from some medical stuff and writting will be about the only physical exertion I'll be able to handle for awhile. I am a vet of the Vietnam War (USN). Married 38 years.

Four kids, three grandkids. Tool and die maker. Bass fisherman. Texan (not a native but I got here as quick as I could) This is alittle about me. Thanks. PM or email for address.

Count me in! I´d be glad if a letter from far away came flying to my door. :)

I´m in my early twenties, have studied some sociology before finally switching over to art history about a year ago. I´m, of course, very interested in art (especially surrealism & dada), read a lot (no real preferences, fiction and non-fiction alike) and enjoy listening to music as well as writing and recording my own.

The rest should be a surprise, I think. :D

I'm up for snail mail!

I'm a fountain pen newbie living in central Illinois, although I've lived in a variety of other places during my life.

I'm in my mid-40's and work in the medical field. Besides my wife and kids, my interests include history, dabbling in cooking (poorly), growing chile peppers (not this year, though, due to limitations in the garden after knee surgery) and blues music.

My dad is an immigrant, and I remember letters from his family overseas years ago. These days, outside of Christmas cards, it seems like no one writes much anymore.

I would like to participate.

I am somewhat of a journeyman, having lived in and visited different countries. But for the last 25 years Texas is home. I came to know fountain pen swhen my Father gave me my first pen some years ago. Even though I did not used the pen I kept the pen, I guess deep down I knew it would mean something to me. I was right. I travel for a living as my work takes all over the North and North East part of this big beautiful state, but I have time to sit down at night to write in my journal so I am sure I can make the time to write a few letters. Nothing like writing to new friends in places I have never been to.

Count me in!

I would love a reason to use my beautiful pens and some nice stationery.

I am 38, English but now an Aussie, and I have a daughter who is 8. I am divorced but now live with my new partner. Am into photography, reading (Dean Koontz and Richard Laymon especially). Have a passion for fountain pens. Am left handed, and I quite like gardening. Have been known to come up with the odd poem too. Would love to share my Aussie adventues with you.

I work as a PA for a company that makes huge trucks!

PM me if you would like my snail mail address.

Best regards

Dawn
