Snail Mail Writing List

Hi all!

I'm quite new here, so it may be a bit bold to post here so soon, but I would really love to write letters by hand instead of using my computer.

I've always enjoyed writing letters and I'm quite experienced. I'd got a lot of penpals in my teens, even one I'd written over several years (than he fell in love with me and it got a little bit weird, but that's a long story. ;))

I'm a 25 year old graduate student from Germany with my exam hopefully passed in summer next year and then heading straight for my Ph.D. My main focus is on Indian Medicine and next to my theoretical studies I dream of achieving a certification as an ayurveda therapist.

Besides my studies I'm interested in all the finer things of live as art, literature (mostly fantasy, scifi, but also classicals and poetry), music, philosophy, religion and everything else regarding life. I tend to get very philosophizing on almost every topic, so be warned. :P

In contradiction to that more "cultivated" issues, I'm a streetdancer with an aweful taste in music, I'm playing the guitar horribly (and don't force me to sing!!!), I love cooking and crafting and stuffed animals.

Currently, I'm living with my boyfriend in a lovely, little city with cobblestone pavement to die for. He says I'm stubborn, self-opinionated and arrogant, but he loves me nevertheless as I also seem to be funny, warmhearted and caring.

You may write to me in German and English (though I certainly will make some mistakes as my English is not as well as it should be). You could also write in French, Netherlands, Hindi, Marathi or Sanskrit, but it could take a lifetime until I'll manage to reply.

Regards,

Damayanti

Hello fellow Snails! I, unfortunately have to drop out of the snail mail writing list for a while. I feel lousy for not replying to those that have written to me and not received responses. I have a lot of things going on right now and need a break. Hopefully, I will be back soon!

I suppose I'll throw myself into the mix here. I'm 26, married, and currently trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow up. Right now I am in between colleges and unemployed, so I have lots of time on my hands (insomnia affords me even more)! I live in Kentucky, but I am just across the river from Cincinnati, Ohio. It is a place I've learned to tolerate, and even appreciate a little as I've aged. I like to write, though I don't claim to be good at it. I need an excuse to use my pens, my journal isn't quite using enough ink. If nothing else, I'm good for a chuckle or two usually. I want to be the kind of person my dogs think I am... I think. That might change if they could talk. Nevertheless, I have some cute stamps with shelter animals on them right now... you know you want one!

Online, I am here. That could help or hinder my case, your choice! :bunny01:

Hi, Snails!

Denning here.

I'm in my early 20s. I live in London at present, where I read Law. I've lived in Hong Kong and all over the States.

I write to friends and family on a regular basis - though they usually reply by email. Hardly any of them pick up a pen these days, and I am the first in my family to show any sign of interest.

I am a bookworm. I read a great deal of classics, history and travel literature. I am also quite a film and music buff, though hardly an expert. I am constantly looking for opportunities to travel and explore. And, I love nature and animals, especially dogs. There's a lot more to me, but those sort of aspects are better discovered as you get to know me.

Hope to hear from you soon!

OK, you have all convinced me. Why not become part of the virus (fountainpenitus)I've been sitting on the fence on this one.

My name is Paul. Live in Melbourne Australia. I'm 47. Married with 2 kids (12 & 14)

I work as a mechanical designer. I haven't written a letter since.................................................................................

I'm willing to participate. I don't know how it will go but I'm willing to exchange with anyone that wants to know about my side

of the world "Upover", not "Down under". (Neil Armstrong actually had the camera upside down when he photographed the earth from space)

Drop me a PM and I'll see what I can do. My writing is neat. It can be read. But I can write clearer if need be.

So lets see where this goes ...........................eh? I don't mind receiving letter from anyone. I just have to explain the one's from females to my wife (convincingly)

Paul

Add me to the list! I'm brand new to FPN, but I love writing letters, so I hope it's not too early to get involved.

I'm 25 and married with three dogs (my herd). I love to read -- history, biographies, poetry, non-fiction, thrillers, mysteries, you name it -- my literary interests are as varied as can be. I enjoy motorsports, and have a background in motorcycles that is giving way to more four-wheeled persuits little-by-little. I also enjoy creative writing and would love to exchange writing samples, poems, pet stories, book reviews, or just general conversation.

Looking forward to writing to you!

G'day,

I'm DJ or Deej or Dan (but NEVER Danny). I'm in Melbourne, Australia.

In brief: thirty-something, married, no kids, no pets (small house, no yard), boring-professional-career-that-I-don't-talk-about, tattoos, cigars, pens of all shapes (fountain pens most recently), bicycles, armchair politics, kitchen-floor philosophy, science-fiction, design, contention, ranting, overuse of adjectives and ellipsis ...

... and I'll stop there before I'm carried right away.

Seriously though; I've often thought that there must be plenty of old-style, snail-mail pen-pal-exchanges around, in this internet age; but until now, I've never cared enough about writing by hand to look one up. I type emails and forum posts more quickly than I write by hand, after all.

Now that fountain pens are a part of my life, I find myself writing pages of nonsense, while waiting on hold for boring business teleconferences, or even during boring business teleconferences.

Let me address those pages of nonsense to you! Come on: you can't ask better than that!

-DJ-

In the last week, I've managed to acquire most of the working parts of four fountain pens ... but not one of them is yet going.

What a pleasure it would be in this world of quickly fading thoughts, to reach out to others who also take the time to enjoy some of the quieter pursuits. I am from NYC and teach English in a NYC public school. I enjoy many things including art glass, poetry, teddy bears and admiring the gorgeous jewelry ads in the NY Times ( delivered to our school). I frequent Tiffany's in the city, where I constantly visit the large yellow diamond on the first floor (with the bird perched on top) to make sure they are taking proper care of it for me.... Since I am a lefty, please forgive my handwriting if you actually do write to me!

How cool that you teach English! I was an English major before I switched to Fine Arts (major in painting, minor in drawing).

Want to exchange snail mail?

Julie

P.S. Ah, yes, a brief bio: I'm 60 years old, married 25 years to my sweetie, we have two great little dogs, and have collaborated on a few books (he writes the haiku, I do the relief print illustrations). (My husband and I collaborate on the books, not the dogs and I. :-)) I love printmaking: the drawing of the design, figuring out colors, carving the blocks, all of it. I also sew (mostly mending these days, but I do the odd new thing now and then), occasionally weave miniature baskets out of linen cord, do a bit of beadwork. Not fond of religion as such. Used to do calligraphy professionally. Love languages, though I'm not fluent in any but English (my Spanish is so-so, my Chinese is very rusty, and the less said about my German and Japanese, the better. I studied Egyptian hieroglyphs for a while too, though have forgotten most of it by now.)

I like reading fantasy, some SF, some mysteries. I love color!

That's enough for now!

Hi All,

My name is George Ku and I am a mechanical engineer currently working for Honda Engineering. I've always enjoyed fountains pens but alas did not choose an industry where longhand writing is utilized. So I've started journals with friends, joined clubs/guilds, and scoured the internet to find like-minded individuals. And that led me here!

My background is in mechanical engineer with a strong focus in the automotive industry. I used to design/build racecars, as well as the annoying "Fast and Furious" rice rockets, before I landed a job with Honda. I now design manufacturing equipment and tooling for the assembly line. Other interests...motorsports, cigars, technology, pens(in general), calligraphy...

Anyone willing to help me improve my penmanship and calligraphy? Would be very cool if I could exchange cigars as well!

Hey hey,

Just thought I'd pop in and say hello!

I'm an English teacher by trade but consider myself a closet wordsmith! :) I love the written word in all its forms and still rue the day I stopped writing letters and made the switch to e-mail! I can type faster than I write, but I prefer writing letters to people - just so I can play with all my inks and fountain pens! :) Plus writing allows me the time to think, contemplate and choose the right words to convey what I need to say. :)

So oh penpal-who's-somewhere-out-there... Let's begin! :)

I live in Northern California in the Sonoma Valley Wine Country.

What I do for fun: Love SUNSHINE and outdoors: running, hiking and walking; yoga, reading, movies

What I love: exploring and learning new things, my iPod, ice cold martinis, good food and enjoying my friends

Passions: Love, love colour, use of fountain pens, making greeting cards, knitting, travelling, cooking (clay pots being the current obsession) and a healthy lifestyle!

In addition to what I pasted above from my profile - I have one married son who has just relocated to San Francisco (am I excited or what!) and one granddog! What a FUN idea this is.... I am new to FPN and hope to find some wonderful 'pen pals' out there so that I have a good excuse to buy more pens. Please PM me if you are interested. I am looking forward............

Thanks,

Stephany

Hi folks. After a period of hibernation from much activity on this forum I think that it's to start being a little more active.

I live in England with my wife of over 20 years (she has a medal the size of a frying pan).

I'm interetsed in reading, music (I'm a horn player), motorbikes, photography and travel.

If you can't resist, then drop me a PM.

I am actually running out of people to send letters to. It's a bit difficult to send four letters to someone while waiting. Early 30's, living in the Upper West Side.

By night, I'm a playwright in Manhattan. By day, I'm work as a production manager in a theater in Manhattan. I'm not from New York, but I'm slowly coming around to it. These days, I'm working on my second novel, trying to work up the motivation to finish revising the first.

Hi everyone!

Thought I would join this as I enjoy writing letters and have no one aside from my girlfriend to write them to!

I'm 23 years old and a recent college graduate with my Bachelor's degree in Business. Currently unemployed and looking for a job. I've just recently gotten into fountain pens in the past few months and would love an opportunity to use them. I maintain my own writing instruments blog: Derek's Pens and Pencils. A few things that I really enjoy are collecting (and using) writing instruments, cars & maintenance, video games, cats & birds (yes, they can get along :P), old buildings, and Japanese music/culture.

If you're interested in exchanging letters, feel free to send me a PM.

Thanks!

Derek

Hello,

I obtained a few penpals on here a while back and I think I'd like to re-enter the stream. I'm 22, a few weeks away from my BFA in painting, and very much enjoy literature. Other things, too. I receive too few letters.

Hey y'all!

I have just started writing to a few people from this list and it's been heaps of fun so far! I really enjoy the process of letter writing - SO... if anyone is keen to get letters from someone in OZ, who loves cooking, reading, freediving, tattoos ( I have none of my own but I like looking... :P), fishing, fountain pens and a heap of other things, PM me! :)

Oh and I've been occasionally browsing through the list and just wanted to ask - how do we know if people are still active or not on this list, or if they want more penpals? Some of the entries are pretty old and I just don't know if I am still allowed to get in touch with these people or not or if they want to be contacted.

Anyway, hope to hear from some of you soon... I don't bite... I promise. :vbg:

Ciao,

Su-fen

That's a good question about older entries. I'll update my entry now- I do still accept more penpals. I'm married with two grown "boys" and 3 cats. I like to read, cook, garden, sew, quilt, knit, spin (yarn), make soap, play with fountain pens and inks and various and sundry crafty type pursuits. I like short letters, long letters, postcards, quick replies, slow replies, anything goes.

You can go to their profile and see if they've posted recently or you can PM them and ask. Off hand, that's what I can think of. Or if you see a post by someone that has the little letter exchange badge you can contact them but that's not my preferred route. (I'm not looking for more, currently, as I'm having trouble keeping up with those I have....but some people see it as letting people know that they're open to more letter exchanges)
