Snail Mail Writing List

Recommended Posts

I would like to participate in the Snail Mail Exchange. I'm a graduate student in California, in my late 30's, and the mother of 2 children. I enjoy cooking, needlework, music and dance, and foreign languages.

I can correspond competently in English or Bulgarian, and less competently, but with pleasure, in Turkish, Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian, Romanian, German, French, Greek or Russian. I just want to use some of the stationary and inks that I seem to buy compulsively, without having enough use for them!

Hey, I would like to add my name to this list as well. I'm 22, a recent graduate, and teaching English in Madrid. I can understand and write in Spanish and French (more or less), and enjoy games, sports, reading, writing, and traveling. I graduated with a BA in Philosophy and live in Texas otherwise. Thanks.

I love to send and receive hand-written letters and I already correspond with a few people here on FPN but I could do with some more!

Age, gender and subject matter are irrelevant to me so if you're looking to use up some of that ink and stationery please get in touch. If you want to know a bit more about me click the link below to my website.

Look forward to hearing from you...

I'm in my late twenties and married. I'm a huge geek, but you wouldn't know it by looking at me. I'm a fashion junkie and take great pleasure in styling clothes. I also have a passion for makeup, and I am currently paying the bills through makeup artistry. If you take a peek under the surface you'll find the geek at heart. I love video games, I've been playing World of Warcraft for nearly two years now. Older video game addictions included The Sims franchise, Nintendo console games, and various website games. I read as much as I can find time for when I'm not on the computer. Science fiction has been my genre of choice for a few years, but I also enjoy other types of fiction. I'm devouring the Wheel of Time series at the moment. I've always had a fascination for both office and art supplies. I feel like a kid in a candy store whilst looking at paper, notebooks, pens, etc. I own two ball jointed dolls, and enjoy customizing and designing clothes for them. I like to be outside, especially around water. I am artistic and frequently feel the pull to work on an art or craft project. I find it difficult to express my personality in just one paragraph. A list of things I like to do is far from being a fair representation of me, I'm sure everyone else feels the same way. ;)

I would love to correspond with someone that may share an interest, or have a different perspective on life than I do. If you find me interesting enough to want to hear from me, chances are I'd love to hear from you as well. I would also love to find someone to exchange fictional letters with. I saw the idea mentioned here and found it intriguing. We could both decide on an era or some type of connection for our fictional characters to have and then correspond with each other from their perspective.

I have a few PenPals and reading their letters is always the highlight of my week. Would enjoy having a few more.

I chat about anything and everything. My letters are more like friendly chats with neighbors than formal letters and although I might bore you to tears, at least you'll receive real mail on a regular basis.

Age, sex, location - doesn't matter, but it helps if your expectations aren't too high. rolleyes.gif

Although I am a bit nervous about it, I think I'll go ahead and jump in. I've been thinking for a while that it would be nice to start writing again, as I used to do it, for fun, quite a bit. The last several years I haven't been able to but the very recent purchase of my first beloved fountain pen has really jump started me again. Right now it has just resulted in taking some of my poems and babblings from the screen and putting them down in ink, and a journal. Of course I've always liked the idea of sitting and writing letters, and receiving them. Especially from around the world. So I'd love to get letters from those in Europe and the UK, and anywhere else too really. I think it will be great fun, and a good way to relax and maybe even broaden my horizons a bit. As well as another excuse to write with my pen (and justify the purchase of sealing wax and good stationary)!

As a bit more of a biography, I'm 26 and live near Seattle, WA. I am pretty well rounded, and have a good eclectic mix of interests. I absolutely LOVE language, language acquisition, linguistics, etc. I have no formal training unfortunately, but love to study and read about it. I also work for a well known language learning company, and have re-learned German, and Dutch both to a conversational ability, but definitely still learning so grammar is a bit rough. So, I'd love to do a bit of correspondence in those languages, especially with any native speakers. I've also just started learning Russian and that is quite an adventure. I must say that my Lamy Studio makes learning Russian handwriting all the more fun! I suppose I'll leave it at that and save the rest for the letters, I hope to hear from someone soon!

Hi all.

I'm a thirtysomething-year-old man living in New York and would enjoy a pen pal (or two or three...). I hesitate to write too much in this posting because I think we should reserve some of the 'mystery' for the actual letter exchanges. My father (here in New York as well, now a retired scientist) had a pen pal in the UK many years ago--he genuinely enjoyed those monthly letters and getting to know the person over the course of years. It was quite special. Presently, I work in Manhattan at a Media/Entertainment company; I enjoy writing, reading, photography, drawing, drinking red wines... anything cerebral... though the last item is questionable...

Drop me a private message and we'll get the ink flowing... :happyberet:

Cheers,

Ezra.

I ink, therefore I am.

Hello,

I'm shona and live in a small village called Dundonald which is in Kilmarnock south ayrshire, but i come from a village by the coast called Monifieth in Angus, with my pain in the neck husband who is at this very moment making silly comments about me writing my biography, but i still love him regardless,at least life is never boring.

I'm a young 58yr old with two grown up children boy and a girl who still live at home and are great company,we also have a rescued border collie that we named tess, i've had a few prophetic dreams, also i dream of past close relatives all the time, sense things when i visit different places, i'm interested in ancient scottish standing stones and the ancient celtic peoples history, researching my family tree and it's branches,so far i've researched four.I've recently started to write with a fountain pen,it would be good if i could have a few penpal's to write to.

Shona.

Hey… I’m really enjoying using my fountain pens with my journal and letter writing, but I find I’m kind of limited in how much I can really bore my family with letters! :D I really think I’d like to get involved with this letter exchange on FPN. I do have one caveat though – I need to exchange only with guys. My wife is a pretty jealous type and she feels that my charms are just too strong for any woman to resist! :roflmho: So guys only please!

About me, well I’m an engineer with a BS and MS and now working on my MBA. I’m just about 40 and using the MBA to further move me up within management. I’m not terribly social, but I enjoy a lot of things outside of work such as fast cars, mountain biking, hiking, snow shoeing, and of course fountain pens. I am trying to express myself more now through I guess what I call letter or mail art. I like to decorate my envelopes with stamps, writing, etc. and I like to make my own stationery. This is one of my few creative outlets. I’m hoping that whomever I write to will enjoy my “art” that I like to send out in the mail. Hopefully the letter content is decent too.

I guess that’s it, feel free to drop me a PM.

I am a bad correspondent! But, the school year is almost over and we should be closing the deal on our new house in the next two weeks, plus I have recently discovered dip pens (thanks jbb!) and am interested in starting up again.

I am a 46 year old, married, father of 3 sons, high school agriculture teacher in Northeastern Colorado. I weld, play guitar in church (today we had a rollicking medley of Are You Washed/I'll Fly Away/Hallelujah, I'm Ready) and enjoy learning more about people. I am an organic gardener, fowl incubator and recently have gotten into raising gamebirds.

The rest will have to wait for my introductory letter!

I'm willing to throw my hat into the ring. I'm a soon to be 30 year old that spends way too much time sitting in front of computers. I need to start sitting in front of paper more than the screen. My main interests are home brewing beer at least once a month and reading about history. However, I'd really talk about anything.

Thrage1

My real name is David. I am a 23 year old college student.

I used to have several pen pals when I was younger and I would like to start up again. I just recently started using fountain pens and would definitly like to get some use out of them. I am a philosophy major, a movie buff, and I always expanding my horizon by learning new things. I'd love a pen pal who I could write to, in order to talk about life interests, (I know we have at least one in common fps) pm me if you are interested and we could start snail mailing thanks for reading.

Cut from the void, not from bewilderment. Cut the enemy as quickly and directly as possible. Cut decisively, resolutely. Cut into the enemy's strength. Flow through the gaps in his guard. Cut him. Cut him down utterly. Don't allow him a breath. Crush him. Cut him without mercy to the depths of his spirit."

Well, having found time again to write in my journals, and send some postcards, I think its time to finally jump in for some letter writing.

I have just updated my profile/about me page to more recent info, and its long, you should get a good idea about me from it. Here is a short truncated version though...

Male, soon to be 25, Christian(baptist). Single(looking-kinda..). Alaskan by birth and choice, plan to be Alaskan my whole life. Sorta employed(part time, odd jobs, and selling products of my hobbies- and I help out a lot here on the homestead for my room and board). Will try almost anything once, love to learn new skills; I am a renaisance man of sorts, I pride myself on being a "jack of all, master of many" as opposed to the old saying "jack of all, master of none".

Main hobbies that are a daily or at least weekly practice include pocket knife collecting and reviewing, woodworking, writing. And lots of auto mechanics... 90% of my time is spent working on my trucks, cars and bikes. Mostly Ford and Chevy 4x4 pickups. You'll definately hear about my truck projects in my letters(I'll try not to get too technical though if your not mechanically inclined/interested.)

Am a traditionalist, and prefer to use the older ways of doing things, hate using too much un-needed modern tech. Computers I like for the connections/learning/friends though. Am a country boy; cowboy hats, pickup trucks, and honor. Mostly hate being indoors, love being outside and active/working, but read a lot at times too, mostly sci-fi fantasy and westerns.

I have no preferences really about who I correspond with, in state or country or out, male, female, or age don't matter. I will not discuss politics, and very rarely will discuss religion. Other than that I'm pretty open if ya thing we might share an interest, or an interesting topic, bring it up! Or just chatter about daily life...

I would be very interested in swapping recipies a little if you like to cook, have a favorite etc.. I Love cooking and trying new foods.

I figure the fastest I'll be able to correspond is about a weekly letter, giving several days after receiving a letter to order my thoughts etc.. Just a guess though, so shall see how it goes. ;-)

Thanks for your time reading this,

Hope to hear from ya soon.

Gary.

Well, now that University is out for the Summer (and I've graduated), I have the time to craft some letters.

So I'm 21, I have (or will have, when my diploma gets mailed, technically) degrees in Linguistics, Italian Literature and Language, and a minor in Russian.

I don't have much of a theme to pen collecting, because half my collection just fell into my lap – although one pen (a Parker 45) was owned by my Uncle, who is a... senator? in the Trinidadian Parliment. So I'm an American, soon to be law-student, and I speak Italian (well) and Russian (poorly).

@bhavini If I were you I would not buy a dip-pen. They don't replicate the flow characteristics of fountain pens, and they will work well with some inks that will clog fountain pens. Instead of a dip-pen, I would buy a relatively-inexpensive pen that is easy to clean. E.g. a Parker Frontier and a converter for it. Its nib/feed-unit can be unscrewed from the pen, so cleaning it is very very easy.
    • finzi 18 Apr 21:44
@bhavini I ordered a Sailor Hocoro today, to use for testing. I’ll let you know what it’s like. You can get different nib sizes for it, so maybe more versatile than a glass dip pen.

@bhavini, I really like the Sailor Hocoro dip pen. It’s inexpensive, easy to clean, and if you get one with a nib that has a feed, you can get quite a few lines of writing before you have to dip again. I have a fude nib, which I use for swatching and line variation while writing.

What's a relatively cheap tool for a newbie to use to try out new inks, without inking up a pen? I've a bunch of ink samples on their way but I just want to play around with them before I decide on which ones I want to buy more of for writing. I've never used anything except a fountain pen to write with ink before.
    • Penguincollector 15 Apr 17:03
Hello @Jeffrey Sher, pen club information can be found in the Pen Clubs, Meetings, and Events sub forum. If you use Google site search you can find information specific to Israel.

It's gonna end where 1929 left us: a world war, shambles, and 'growth by rebuilding'. That's the conservative view of cycling history --and the big plan. Even if our generations perish.
    • lamarax 11 Apr 0:49
Of course trade wars are much, more important than the prices of consumer products. The true intention is to weaken the dollar, so that the Chinese start selling their US held debt. But the dollar being the defacto world reserve currency, it doesn't lose value that easily. So the idea is to target trade through artificially raising prices. Problem is, inflation will skyrocket. Good luck with that.

    • lamarax 11 Apr 0:30
In Europe, the only (truly) American produced brand is Esterbrook AFAIK. Tariffs will make Esterbrook products compete on the same level as some high-end European brands (let's say Aurora), while clearly the product is manufactured to compete on a much lower price level.
    • lamarax 11 Apr 0:24
So let's say you want to buy a Montblanc or whatever. You pay the current tariff on top of the usual price, unless your local distributor is willing to absorb (some) of the difference
    • lamarax 11 Apr 0:20
Tariffs are paid by the importer, not the exporter.
    • TheQuillDeal 10 Apr 2:44
Can anyone explain how the tariff war will affect fountain pen prices??

@Astronymus I could use cornstarch... Or i could distill it and make it very concentrated.

Cappuccino should work. Frothy milk also helps to lubricate the nib. But it has to be made by a barista.

No replies required to my complaints about the Pelikan. A friend came to the rescue with some very magnification equipment - with the images thrown to a latge high res screen. Technology is a wonderful thing. Thanks to Mercian for the reply. I had been using the same paper & ink for sometime when the "singing" started. I have a theory but no proof that nibs get damaged when capping the pen. 👍
    • Mercian 22 Oct 22:28
@FineFinerFinest: sometimes nib-'singing' can be lessened - or even cured - by changing the ink that one is putting through the pen, or the paper that one is using. N.b. *sometimes*. Good luck

I'm not expecting any replies to my question about the singing Pelikan nib. It seems, from reading the background, that I am not alone. It's a nice pen. It's such a pity Pelikan can't make decent nibs. I have occasionally met users who tell me how wonderful their Pelikan nib is. I've spent enough money to know that not everyone has this experience. I've worked on nibs occasionally over forty years with great success. This one has me beaten. I won't be buying any more Pelikan pens. 👎
    • FineFinerFinest 21 Oct 4:27
I've had a Pelikan M805 for a couple of years now and cannot get the nib to write without singing. I've worked on dozens of nibs with great success. Ny suggestion about what's going wrong? 😑

Hello all - New here. My Art studies have spilled me into the ft pen world where I am happily submerged and floating! I'm looking to repair some cheap pens that are starving for ink yet filled, and eventually get new nibs; and development of repair skills (an even longer learning curve than my art studies - lol). Hello, it's been ages for me since I was here last time. I had a post (http://www.fountainpennetwork...-notebooks/?view=getnewpost) but I see that it is no longer accessible. Is there anyway to retrieve that one?

I haven't been here for ages... do I take it that private sales are no longer allowed? Also used to be a great place to sell and buy some great pens

      Lol…
    • JungleJim 1 Sept 1:55
Perhaps it's like saying Beetlejuice 3 times to get that person to appear, though with @Sailor Kenshin you only have to say it twice?

I have no ties or relationship. Just a very happy customer. He is a very experienced Montblanc expert.

I strongly recommend Kirk Speer at https://www.penrealm.com/

@Seney724. The pen was recently disassembled and cleaned, but the nib and feed were not properly inserted into the holder. I'm in Maryland.
    • Diablo 26 Aug 21:32
@Seney724. The nib section needs to be adjusted properly.
    • Seney724 26 Aug 18:16

Hello! Is there a thread anywhere 'round here where one can post self-composed poetry? If not, would it be alright if I made one? I searched on google, but to no avail...

I have several Parker Roller Ball & Fiber Tip refills in the original packaging. Where and how do I sell them? The couple that I've opened the ink still flowed when put to paper. Also if a pen would take the foller ball refill then it should take the fiber tip as well? Anyway it's been awhile and I'm want to take my message collection beyond the few pieces that I have... Meaning I don't have a Parker these refills will fit in 🙄

Recently was lucky enough to buy a pristine example of the CF crocodile ball with the gold plating. Then of course I faced the same problem we all have over the years ,of trying to find e refill. Fortunately I discovered one here in the U.K. I wonder if there are other sources which exist in other countries, by the way they were not cheap pen

I have a Conway Stewart Trafalgar set. It was previously owned by actor Russell Crowe and includes a letter from him. Can anyone help me with assessing its value?
