Snail Mail Writing List

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I'm in my 30's and currently live in the midwest (Indianapolis, Indiana) but I've bounced around most parts of the US at some point. I work at a pediatrics hospital as a pharmacist. I'm new to the forum and FP's in general. In addition to FP's and work, I enjoy reading and collecting books, science and medicine (obviously) and music. Also love playing with electronics/tech. I've always enjoyed writing letters and am a quick responder. Would love to correspond with any gender or age.

If interested, shoot me a PM or email.

Cheers,

Pranish

I can vouch for David! He's a great guy to correspond with!

I'm very new to FPN and I really like it. I would love to write letters and receive them as well :)

A little about me is that I am married with an adorable son - toddler. I'm a stay at home Mum but I also do the paperwork for my husband's business which combined with the housework seems to keep me out of a little bit of trouble. I have a very dry sense of humour and a big interest in motor racing of all kinds although not as big in rally.

Many Thanks

I would like to exchange some letters with anyone who would like to hear from a 30-something computer-understanding, music-trained, writing, video gaming, photography and science fiction person from lovely Seattle WA. I can't promise anything deep or profound, but I will surely enjoy corresponding.

Hello there. I've always enjoyed letters the old fashion way but have never known others with reciprocal interest.

To be honest, I think that email is slowly brutalizing human culture.

Thus, I'm tossing my name in here and we'll see what happens.

My name is Joe and I live in northwestern Pennsylvania in the USA.

I'm a male just about to turn the Big 50.

I can read French pretty well and Italian rather less well. Writing or speaking either is dubious, at best.

My degree was in Philosophy and English Lit but I've spent my entire adult life working in the transportation industry.

If anyone is interested, feel free to PM me.

Thanks.

Joe

Hello FPN!

I'd like to add my name to this list. I'm Leo, a music teacher living in southeastern Pennsylvania. I have many interests, many completely unrelated, that you can find in my profile.

As many have stated here, I agree that email and texting, although convenient, is killing the art of communication, and the importance of the written word.

Besides, who doesn't love getting real mail?

If I end up writing enough letters, I might just take the plunge and step out of my Lamy comfort zone into something more distinctive. Or, at least I'll be able to rationalize the purchase.

Feel free to send me a message!

Hello, I'd like to write more tactile letters and practice if there's any pen pals about.

Phototoxin/Me/aka Joe - I'm a scientist working in Oxfordshire in the UK. I do some interesting stuff. My hobbies include photography, D&D and reading. I'm also getting married this Summer (85 days! woo!) I like computers in a casual manner and quite like taking photos of nature.

My current projects include attempting to finish a 25,000 thing I've written by supplementing it with another 25000 at least and revamping my website by making it organised better. This is in addition to other geekery.

I am reading stories by HP Lovecraft at the moment (apparently its staple geekery at the moment) and I have the Sherlock Holmes collection to read a swell.

Hi,

My intro post can be found here, and please check my profile for some fruther info/interests etc. I have been a member for around one week, I would love to send/recieve letters, to practice my handwriting, which I feel is an ever declining art form as we use computers more and more often.

A little background:

My name is Tim, I live in Melbourne Australia, I am studying Information Technology at University and I work at an Insurance Company. I have wanted to buy a fountain pen for a long while, and ended up purchasing one as a present for my stepdad, and quickly got one of my own. Other than that I love listening to music and playing the guitar, reading anything and getting into the wilderness. I am quite busy with my last year of University, but would love a reason to handwrite letters to someone who is interested in reading them! I tend to ramble so be forwarned . Anyone from another country would be fantastic, would love to get a grass-roots feel for where you may be from. This will be more than reciprocated!

Look forward to hearing from you,

Tim

Hello Fellow FPNers,

I'vebeen looking for pen pals for about a month and peruse the pages of this list every so often to see whom I missed. I thought I'd put some different info about myself this time.

  • I live in Honolulu (grew up in NYC);
  • prefer not to talk politics unless it isexploring ideas;
  • am spiritual - having grown up catholic, but left it while in catholic high school because the priest/counselor couldn't explain free will to my liking, - and,
  • enjoy discussing spirituality as long asit stays away from politics;
  • my first career was as a musician;
  • I still play guitar, compose and arrange music - never could get to appreciate full orchestras even though my degree is in music - and,
  • love being outside, golfing, traveling, hiking and food.
  • Been with my wife now for 30 yearsin April.
  • "no kids, no pets, no problems," (I can hear the country singer in my head but can't remember who it is.); and,
  • oh, I guess I should mention, I'm looking for thoughtful conversations to help me think and for shared enrichment!

If interested, please consider this our first letter. I'm not a good starter! roflmho.gif

Send a PM for my address.

Aloha,

David

I would like to participate too.

I am the chief of police in a small Virginia town. I am also a former university professor and a cross-county motorcyclist who writes for several magazines and does his own photography, so you will find my interests diverse.

If you send your address to va_deputy@yahoo.com, I will initiate written correspondence.

I Like getting stuff in the Mail! Right now it's pens and other oddities from the internet. I like having something else to look forward to in the mailbox that isn't a bill. Plus as I continue to work on my handwriting I would like some way to use it more. My friends tell me that I have too many hobbies and it seems that I'm picking up a new one. For some reason the hobbies that I choose are a little bit on the expensive side, but at least a mail exchange isn't costly.

I'm a computer professional working for a small business that is closely tied to the parking industry. We write software for parking management products.

In my spare time I'm a competitive Clay Target shooter. I love to shoot all kinds of target presentations. There something strangely enjoyable about smoke-balling a clay target. Some people think I'm a little crazy, but I'm a Outboard Hydroplane driver in the summer time.

I really do have too many hobbies, but it sure keeps life interesting. I love to ride BMX bikes, Downhill bikes, motorcycles....and too much more to list. I guess you'll have to write to find out what else.

I write many documents for my job, most of them being technical. I'm wanting to write more on the expressive or creative side of things. Or maybe to write for no particular reason at all.

Lemme know if you're interested!

Hi, I'm interested in corresponding with someone via the written letter. I must warn you though my handwriting is atrocious but I’m sure after many long letters it will improve.

I’m 36, the mother of two little divas, married, and live outside of Washington, DC. I’m interested in meeting people from all over the world. I love to travel, drink good wine (even though I’m really much more of a beer girl), and read.

Hi there FPN!

I'm not that new to FPN but I've only recently become more active. Though it seems a little redundant to say, since I am posting in the thread for it, I am looking for some pen pals to write to.

A little about me:

~ I've been married for nearly two years. Not very long in the overall scheme of things but it's shocking how quickly we've gone from the wedding day to thinking about second anniversary gifts.

~ I have an almost four-month-old son, born December 18, 2009. I also have a nine-week-old puppy called Willow.

~ I currently wear several hats when it comes to employment - student, writer and stay at home mum. I used to be a counsellor but it was too emotionally draining.

~ I'd lover pen pals from Australia but I'd be happy to write to anyone from anywhere in the world. I really just want to correspond with other FP users!

~ I love writing long letters about a wide variety of topics. I will sometimes write about my day, sometimes about my feelings or thoughts, sometimes I will just philosophise. I'm fairly spiriutal so that sort of thing creeps in too.

Please PM me for my address if you're interested in writing. Thanks guys! :)

Hi Everyone

I am new to the FP world but one of the reasons I go into this hobby was to write letters and get mail.

I'm 25 and live in Boston,MA. I am a recent grad school grad who studied Theatre. I am newly married and have two cats. I am an avid reader, theatre-goer, and movie watcher. I am interested in talking about the arts, books, pens and paper and what things are like in different parts of the world/country. Let me know if you would like to exchange letters. I have bad hand writing, but I try really hard to be neat!

Best,

Mike Truppi

Hello guys! I am new to FPN. After browsing through various forums on this site I discovered few things which I didnt understand -

(1) What is snail mail writing list?

(2) What are those little graphics that says LETTER EXCHANGE PARTICIPANT and INK EXCHANGE PARTICIPANT and other such things below most of the members name?

(3) How can I participate in these exchanges?

I would be happy if someone could answer all those questions...

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to FPN! vbg.gifvbg.gifW2FPN.gifvbg.gifvbg.gif

Snail Mail is simply a pen pal. On the Forum main page, scroll almost all the way down to the Creative Expressions box. The first one in there is The Write Stuff. That' where the snail page is. The easiest thing to do is look around, see if there is someone who you might like to correspond with. Click their avatar to go to their Profile. Under where they may have a photo on the left is a link to send a private message. Tell them about you and ask if they are interested.

I haven't been there, but I imagine you will findand Ink Exchange there, too. Instead of buying a full bottle of ink and not liking it, there is a group who shares ink samples so you can see if you like the color.

Hope this helps.

I would love to have a pen-pal (or two, or three...lol) to correspond with! I love stationary and notecards and such, and have collected a handful of sets but don't have anyone to write to.

I'm 27, living in New England with my boyfriend of 5 years, cat, and Service Dog Shadow. I am disabled, and disability rights and awareness are a big passion of mine. As is Autism/Aspergers Awareness and advocacy. I have many interests, some of which include reading, photography, art and art history, languages and cultures, Buddhism, science/medicine, knitting and calligraphy. I've just recently joined FPN and am still new to FP's in general, but would love to know more.

It's gonna end where 1929 left us: a world war, shambles, and 'growth by rebuilding'. That's the conservative view of cycling history --and the big plan. Even if our generations perish.
    • lamarax 11 Apr 0:49
Of course trade wars are much, more important than the prices of consumer products. The true intention is to weaken the dollar, so that the Chinese start selling their US held debt. But the dollar being the defacto world reserve currency, it doesn't lose value that easily. So the idea is to target trade through artificially raising prices. Problem is, inflation will skyrocket. Good luck with that.

In Europe, the only (truly) American produced brand is Esterbrook AFAIK. Tariffs will make Esterbrook products compete on the same level as some high-end European brands (let's say Aurora), while clearly the product is manufactured to compete on a much lower price level.
    • lamarax 11 Apr 0:24
So let's say you want to buy a Montblanc or whatever. You pay the current tariff on top of the usual price, unless your local distributor is willing to absorb (some) of the difference
    • lamarax 11 Apr 0:20
Tariffs are paid by the importer, not the exporter.
    • TheQuillDeal 10 Apr 2:44
Can anyone explain how the tariff war will affect fountain pen prices??

No replies required to my complaints about the Pelikan. A friend came to the rescue with some very magnification equipment - with the images thrown to a latge high res screen. Technology is a wonderful thing. Thanks to Mercian for the reply. I had been using the same paper & ink for sometime when the "singing" started. I have a theory but no proof that nibs get damaged when capping the pen. 👍
    • Mercian 22 Oct 22:28
@FineFinerFinest: sometimes nib-'singing' can be lessened - or even cured - by changing the ink that one is putting through the pen, or the paper that one is using. N.b. *sometimes*. Good luck

I'm not expecting any replies to my question about the singing Pelikan nib. It seems, from reading the background, that I am not alone. It's a nice pen. It's such a pity Pelikan can't make decent nibs. I have occasionally met users who tell me how wonderful their Pelikan nib is. I've spent enough money to know that not everyone has this experience. I've worked on nibs occasionally over forty years with great success. This one has me beaten. I won't be buying any more Pelikan pens. 👎
    • FineFinerFinest 21 Oct 4:27
I've had a Pelikan M805 for a couple of years now and cannot get the nib to write without singing. I've worked on dozens of nibs with great success. Ny suggestion about what's going wrong? 😑

Hello all - New here. My Art studies have spilled me into the ft pen world where I am happily submerged and floating! I'm looking to repair some cheap pens that are starving for ink yet filled, and eventually get new nibs; and development of repair skills (an even longer learning curve than my art studies - lol). @Seney724. The pen was recently disassembled and cleaned, but the nib and feed were not properly inserted into the holder. I'm in Maryland.
    • Diablo 26 Aug 21:32
@Seney724. The nib section needs to be adjusted properly.

Hello, could someone recommend a reliable venue: on line or brick and mortar in Fairfax, VA or Long Island, NY to purchase the soft parts and a converter to restore my dad's Sheaffer Legacy? please. Thanks a mill.

Hello! Is there a thread anywhere 'round here where one can post self-composed poetry? If not, would it be alright if I made one? I searched on google, but to no avail...

I have several Parker Roller Ball & Fiber Tip refills in the original packaging. Where and how do I sell them? The couple that I've opened the ink still flowed when put to paper. Also if a pen would take the foller ball refill then it should take the fiber tip as well? Anyway it's been awhile and I'm want to take my message collection beyond the few pieces that I have... Meaning I don't have a Parker these refills will fit in 🙄

Recently was lucky enough to buy a pristine example of the CF crocodile ball with the gold plating. Then of course I faced the same problem we all have over the years ,of trying to find e refill. Fortunately I discovered one here in the U.K. I wonder if there are other sources which exist in other countries, by the way they were not cheap pen

I have a Conway Stewart Trafalgar set. It was previously owned by actor Russell Crowe and includes a letter from him. Can anyone help me with assessing its value?

Just checking on a classified section and where we are with that. Many thanks. Bill
    • PAKMAN 29 June 1:57
@inky1 The software for the classified stopped working with the forum. So no we don't have a sales section anymore at FPN
