Snail Mail Writing List

Would really enjoy exchanging letters with any other members of FPN.

PM me for details.

Kindest regards

NIGEL

Anyone?

Not everyone is as crazy as I am to read the whole thread before I reply to something, so I'll rehash some things that have been said earlier in this thread. You'll get a lot more success if you start off as the instigator. Instead of waiting for someone to PM you, go through some recent posts or anyone who looks interesting and PM them, asking if they want to correspond. It beats waiting and I guarantee you'll get more letters that way.

Also, fill out a little more info on your profile or about me page so folks might know a little more about you to decide whether or not you'd be a good correspondence "fit."

Best of luck to you.

Always looking for letters

My Pen collection started as most did with an Esterbrook. I remember picking it up silver and black, thinking five dollars is a lot for a pen but it sure is neat. Took home and found that it worked, which was great, then the search for ink. Found some Quink blue-black and began writing letters with that fountain pen. Occasionally over the next few years visited flea markets and saw some pens but never as nice, did find another nib and the address of the company in a box (didn’t know they had stopped producing). Too much school and too much work pushed the pen to the back of the drawer. Then my father in law passed, I was given a Parker 51 box full of old pens found a red Balance that was given to him before the war. Thought it might be repaired so I went to the net to find a repairer. Found so much more, saw pens that were still being produced that became objects of desire, I wanted more pens. Pelikan, Parker, OMAS, Dupont and Rotring, Bexley , Stipula , Krone. I lurked and I listened to several net boards to what people were using and what they preferred, found eBay and really started to buy. Looked for pen stores in cities I was visiting. And I bought more until two score pens I owned and admired. I went through a downsizing of my collection and have ended up with 12 pens that might be inked up at any time and another 3 that are sentimental. My preference for nibs has been fine but slowly I have tried to get more variation in my writing. I live outside of New Orleans and am a officer of one of the Mardi Gras Carnival Krewes. To pay for my pens I work for an polymer company that produces what could be best described as transparent aluminum. Got smacked by Katrina and lived through it. Ate MREs for 8 weeks because nothing was open and helped clean up the junk 3-1/2 feet of water through my office at work. Considered this a turning point in life and decided to look for work elsewhere. Found a job outside of Philadelphia where now I live half way up a mountain as I don't want to deal with flooding again. As with life my pen collection has taken a turn with a majority of it sold off to fund a few nicer pieces as well just be sold off as I didn't use them as much.

My interests are varied and wide with a small focus on Asian art as I've had an opportunity to travel internationally.

I can not promise anything exciting although I have been known to be a little creative at times.

So send me a PM and we can exchange addresses. I've always got room for another correspondence!

Howdy! I'm Sarah W. (inktree). I live in Maryland (US) and I'm getting very close to 18. Living by DC is so super, we have the zoo and cherry blossoms and midnight showings of Rocky Horror. I love tea, pocket watches, musty libraries, and everything that goes with writing longhand. I also love video games, but that's not nearly as interesting. I want to study English and Linguistics in college. I think. I might do something crazy and switch to Zoology at the last minute. I love learning languages! I speak functional Greek as a result of my crazy family luring my into their Hellenic clutches every summer, and I'm learning Latin in school. I admire people who are artistic, because I can hardly draw a straight line. I have a secret dream of owning a cupcake bakery and having a huge library in a tiny house, with creaky floors and a set of leather bound encyclopaedias. I like to crochet and sleep. My favorite flavour of ice cream is butter pecan. I have infinite nostalgia for times I never lived in. I'm interested in everything! And I can't stand vapidity.

I really love correspondence and hearing about far-away people. Actually it doesn't really matter how far away you are: it's just super to do something as intimate as exchanging letters with a complete stranger, isn't it? Send me a message if you'd like to write with me! I'd really like to know you.

N.B. I don't care about gender, age, etc. Everyone is interesting!

I love snail mail! Both sending and receiving :)

Okay, here's some info 'bout me...

I'm a twentysomething Indian gal who lives in New Jersey, USA. I'm a tree-hugging animal nut, who was heavily into the student environmental movement for about 6 years. I'm crazy paradoxical: I'm fascinated by dark gothic themes (death, darkness, the macabre) but enjoy crocheting and cuddling small fluffy animals. I enjoy painting, sketching, and writing in my journal. I speak fluent sarcasm, and am not in the habit of suffering fools. I love studying linguistics, history, and the life sciences. I dote on my 2 betta fish and many houseplants. I'm a practicing green witch :ninja:

I'm the stereotypical cynical writer/depressed artist who wants to make a difference in the world -- in my case, through being a graphic novelist.

So, if you're not frightened off, by all means, send me a PM  :bunny01:

An addition: I'm going to be graduating from college shortly, and don't want to fall out of touch with my Latin. This might sound crazy, but would anybody be interested in corresponding in Latin, with an English translation included? :meow:

Ok, I think I found a Latin buddy :) Thanks!

Hey there, FPNers,

My name is James and I am a law student originally from Minnesota but now living in Washington, D.C. I'm a long time FP admirer, and a recent collector (though I'm already up to 5, soon to be 7!). I'm politically opinionated but, because I currently work for the federal court system, not politically active. My desire to correspond via snail mail likely arises from my schooling, which has forced me to live inside my head and correspond with others almost exclusively via the internet (although I always make sure to send handwritten thank you notes to interviewers and the like). As an additional consequence of the intensity of school, I'd really rather keep my personal correspondence free of "shop talk". I'd prefer to focus on the other things that make me a unique individual, and of course, topics of interest to my penpal.

I'm a: 24 year old, recently engaged (already freaking out about the wedding), political science major, Latin American studies minor, avid reader of author David Sedaris, one time aspiring actor, sometimes numismatist (modern U.S. paper currency), FP loving, male who rides a scooter, dreams of being a high school social studies teacher and can't decide if his favorite color is either purple or green.

Unfortunately, I just don't think I'm the kind of person who can maintain more than a small number of correspondence relationships (I feel like at some point, I'd just start to write the same things to each individual). My aim is to develop maybe one or two good snail mail relationships with people that can help me indulge in parts of my life that I don't get to celebrate every day. If this sounds like something you, too, would like to do, I'd love to hear from you via PM.

Lets get some letters posted!

James

I'd also like to exchange letters...

I'm 25 y/o, married, in few weeks (or days?) I'll became father... Living in Prague but not enjoying it... Graduated in theology...

I'd very much like to get in touch with somebody who lives (or lived some time) in a lonely place away from crowds... (well, it must not be strictly somewhere in the North, like Iceland or Faroe Islands only :) ) Yes, I'm contemplating moving somewhere far from crowded city...

If you are interested, do not hesitate and send me a PM...

My name is Angela. I'm 23 years old. I am married to a wonderful man and have a wonderful daughter. We also have two precious pooches, a Havanese named Rosie and a Boxer/Lab mix named Ginger.

I'm an academic advisor for a major university in my city. My husband is an ER tech at a local hospital. He's working towards his computer science degree.

I would love to have some snail mail writing friends as I prefer snail mail to email. There is nothing like getting a letter in the mail that isn't a bill!

PM me if you would like to write :)

  • 2 weeks later...

I have been off this Network for a while due to an insane work schedule. It looks like I am going to have a somewhat easier Summer, and I am looking forward to sending and recieving letters. I first want to re-connect with some old friends on this list, and would also like to make some new ones. Short bio:

I have worked in Nuclear Power Plants for nearly all of my adult life. I have a wife and three children, with only the youngest still at home (about to turn 20). I am interested in just about anything. I look forward to hearing from some of you.

My name is Steven Kaplan; I just turned 22 years old and am from Milwaukee, WI. I just graduated cum laude from Loyola University Chicago where I majored in Physics and minored in Math and in Theology. In the past year, I have started to become a more observant Jew. In that regard, Theology is something that is of extreme interest to me. Right now, I am planning on becoming a professor of Physics, but there are other things I am considering also. Starting in late August, I will be in Israel for a year studying in Jerusalem, so you will get to see what an Israeli stamp looks like (I'm also curious about this haha)!

I have newly become interested in fountain pens. Right now, my pen collection is a Lamy Safari and a Pelikan M800 (my graduation gift to myself). The only ink I have at the moment is Pelikan Blue/Black, but I have PR Velvet Black and Noodler's Tiananmen on the way. As I said before, I love discussing deep theological issues, but I also love talking about more down to earth things. If I seem like an interesting match for an exchange, feel free to PM me!

If you don't mind short letters (time, time, time), I may become a penpal for a few of you. Oh, and legal pad paper.

Hi everyone

Now that my life is beginning to settle a little bit after a 'wayward' six months, I am throwing my hat back into the ring here.

Would love to hear from anyone, anywhere in the world.

Sent me a PM.

I'd like to join in if anyone would like a letter from Teignmouth (pronounced Tin mouth), Devon, England.

I've just filled-in my 'About me' page so you can get an idea of what you would be getting.

Letters from anywhere, near or far would be welcome.

My handwriting is only average but I'm trying to re-learn italics so you can take your pick of which you prefer in your mail.

Come on - take a chance. :)

My name is Ines. I always visit this forum, but haven't said much in the topics. I'm from Caracas, Venezuela, but I lived for two years in Oxford, England. I'm thirty years old and I'm a drummer/dentist; drummer first though, if I ever had to choose. I've been with my boyfriend for seven and a half years. I don't like the president we have at all...for personal reasons. I've sent letters to friends/family, but they've answered through an email, if they ever did, and that bothers me, so I've stopped writing. I only send letters to my one year old niece, hoping that when she learns how to read and write, she'll write back.

Please let me know if you'd like to write to me, I always make time to write back and I have to say that my letters tend to be long.

Rock 'n roll!!!
