Snail Mail Writing List

Recommended Posts

Just a quick reminder on the purpose of this thread: it is to indicate interest in snail mail correspondence, telling everyone a bit about yourself in the process if you like. Any other chatter doesn't really belong here. That'll keep this thread much easier to navigate.

I would really like to correspond with someone in Germany, either a native or an Ex-Pat.

Annie and I have spent quite some time there over the last few years, going to gigs and festivals, plus our annual holiday in the Bavarian Alps. We are toying with the idea of retiring there and have been trying to learn the language.

I tried Deutsche Post's LetterNet scheme, a few months back, but just ended up being "given" lonely, elderly spinsters and widows to write to. Don't get me wrong, I've nothing against elderly spinsters and widows, but that was not the socio-economic group I aspired to.

I do not, necessarily, want to write in German, although who knows what might transpire.

If there are any FPNers from Germany that would like to write, please PM me.

am throwing my hat back in the ring again. My bio here on FPN speaks for itself and is quite detailed. Have made connections with a few folks in this thread and have had a bit of success but of the 2-3 others that indicated they were willing to write letters, I've had no responses to my letters. I think it's important here for folks to try hard to keep a promise. If people are taking the time to write letters and not getting responses, then I think the nature of this thread has been lost to some. I understand there is much success here but I have noticed others in similar situations as myself.

There are no hard feelings if people simply can't maintain the workload of replying to letters. A simply PM can put a person's mind at ease.

Hello people,

I'm still reasonably new here - and my Name is Detlev (see username - I won't tell what the C & M stand for but igf you find me on NBR its easy to follow up :D )

I think snail mail could be interesting for me - so why not :)

Let me introduce myself:

As stated my name is Detlev, currently I'n living in the UK - not British though.

I'm 19 years old (at the time of writing and for another 6,5 odd months) and a year 1 maths student.

Interests are pens - more reading though - finance is an issue in a way - still I have 2 Montblancs and one Eversharp with a flexi nib :).

Also computers in a way of helping - I do post a bit on NBR (Notebookreview) - my lat laptop stayed with me for 3 years, my current Vaio should last at least that long or even much longer :)

(PS: I don't game - so that is effectively a no go for me as I have no idea what's available).

A hobby that started in 2008 is photography.

(if you type DetlevCM into Google - take any NBR link, the links are in my sig - I have't put them in my signature yet).

Main interest in photography is architecture, and landscapes.

I think that's really it...

I can also claim to know a wide array of random facts... read a lot about the WWII time....

Oh, and I have no real social life :D

So, if you want to drop me a PM :)

Hi, after reading all the pages on this topic, I'll give it a shot.

I would like to participate in snail mail.

I'm not terribly good in short intro's; I do not believe in one-liners which accentuate my better points.

To lift the veil a bit: I'm best described as a coat of many colors. And not all of then are eeh, well, socially acceptable.

Work can bring you in strange places and situations that others frown upon, but hey, that's how it is.

One thing however; you write; I will write back.

I'd like to participate.

My name is Joey. I'm a first year law student in Las Vegas. I have a BS in Accounting. After law school I plan to practice bankruptcy law or some form of tax law. I'm into nice things (pens, firearms, electronics, etc...) My first FP was a MB 144 and I still have it and love it. I'm very outdoor oriented and enjoy camping, hiking, fishing and hunting. I'm married and have an 18 month old little boy. I'm politically conservative (for those who like to discuss politics) and enjoy discussing political issues and hearing opinions from both sides of the aisle. I'd enjoy some correspondence from someone with similar interests or with interesting opinions.

Just found this thread. I don't write as much personal correspondence as I'd like to. Usually just a letter or two to my brother. Anyway my tag is wrath186

A little about me. I'm from Northeastern Pennsylvania. I collect not only fountain pens, but pocket watches, cigars, lighters and spend as much time as possible riding my motorcycle across PA. I like to read and play video games so many times the two are at odds for spare time. If there's any time left over I also like to write short stories and some poetry, most of which can be found on a site called writing.com.

That's about it. Hope to hear from someone soon.

Hello everyone!

My Name is Rinaldo

I own three online businesses. My largest is www.flixn.com

I'm 27 and I love receiving letters in the mail. I especially love postcards from far away lands, but I would love to have a penpal that actually writes me back. My family receives plenty from me, but I don't receive much from them.

I have 4 Fountain Pens, and I finally found one I love to write with, and an ink that really inspires me. Now I just need someone to begin correspondence with.

Always,

Rinaldo

Hi there!

My name is Andy, and I'm just about to try snail mail correspondence.

I have more interests and hobbies than time to deal with them all. I collect and use vintage cameras, follow history religiously (with emphasis on military and transportation - I love planes, trains, and automobiles), fly fish for trout in mountain streams, canoe, hike, ski, and explore urban ruins and historic archaeology, among other things. I'm very active and very liberal politically - and living in New Hampshire have an avid interest in presidential politics. I am a big fan of all things European, Australian, South Asian, and East Asian, including food, culture, and history. My family is my life, and my SO, our kids, and our grandkids are the most important things in my life.

I work in the real estate development field - developing and building housing for lower income folks for the past 35 years. I have worked largely for NGOs throughout my adult life, after a brief career in journalism. Housing, mortgage finance, urban design are both my work and my passion. If it's construction or rehab or architecture, I'm there. Also love cooking, food, and drink - especially for friends and family, not to mention baseball, basketball, and cricket.

I haven't received a handwritten letter in many years, but I'm willing to give this a shot as it sounds like fun!

Give me a PM if you're interested in corresponding.

best,

Andy

I love snail mail! Both sending and receiving :)

Okay, here's some info 'bout me...

I'm a twentysomething Indian gal who lives in New Jersey, USA. I'm a tree-hugging animal nut, who was heavily into the student environmental movement for about 6 years. I'm crazy paradoxical: I'm fascinated by dark gothic themes (death, darkness, the macabre) but enjoy crocheting and cuddling small fluffy animals. I enjoy painting, sketching, and writing in my journal. I speak fluent sarcasm, and am not in the habit of suffering fools. I love studying linguistics, history, and the life sciences. I dote on my 2 betta fish and many houseplants. I'm a practicing green witch :ninja:

I'm the stereotypical cynical writer/depressed artist who wants to make a difference in the world -- in my case, through being a graphic novelist.

So, if you're not frightened off, by all means, send me a PM  :bunny01:

Hi,

This sounds like fun! I have not written or received a letter in many years.

I am a 54 year old male, from Missouri. I am married with two grown children. My oldest son married an English girl that he met in Germany, and he now lives in St Albans UK where we visit as often as possible. My daughter lives in the USA very close to us. My wife is a retired school teacher, and I am a Systems Manager in the healthcare industry.

We live on a farm, and my interests are fountain pens, gardening, and collecting, and shooting all types of firearms.

I would love to correspond with someone overseas.

If you are interested, PM me for my address.

Thanks

Randy

An addition: I'm going to be graduating from college shortly, and don't want to fall out of touch with my Latin. This might sound crazy, but would anybody be interested in corresponding in Latin, with an English translation included? :meow:

No offers yet - I`d offer to write to someone else first but not having done anything like this before, how do you normally write your first letter? I.e what is the content?

Chris

I didn't get any, either. Nobody picked me! :crybaby: All of my pen friends came from me going back through the posts on the snail mail list and me picking them (except for one.....different story) You might consider doing that.

Cedar

Ditto GreenVelvet's answer. Some of us no longer actively solicit, but that isn't really an indicator of whether or not they are receptive to new correspondents. I would certainly approach anyone who:

  • has posted on this thread soliciting correspondents (I know it's daunting to have to read through all of the earlier posts, but it's most likely worth it)
  • uses a participant button in their sig file
  • has looked at your profile since your request; maybe they were trying to find out more about you?
In terms of rejection - it works both ways; you may be thinking "nobody chose me" but did you chose anyone?

Content of first letter - think of it as a cocktail party, or as making conversation with a stranger while you're both waiting on a long line - what would you say then?

Where do I get the letter writing participant button, and how do I add it to my profile and my posts?
