33 year old female from a little town near Hamilton Ontario Canada.

I write with a varsity disposable right now, i'm saving up for a proper pen.

I make my own envelopes though, from neat-o scrapbook paper.

I'm mostly looking to make new friends, and meet new people.

Thought I'd update and say that I'm interested in finding new snailmail pals, need to get some post at my new address :)

Did post a mini biog somewhere way back in this topic, but here's a quick update. I'm 33 and newly moved to the Isle of Wight. Enjoying exploring a new area, lots of walking with the dogs. Anything to do with archaeology or history interests me (probably a good thing it does given my profession) and I love visiting historic sites. Also enjoy genealogy when time and money permits, even though it can be very frustrating at times. Fairly small collection of fountain pens, mostly vintage Parker and Conway Stewart, but with a few modern Conway Stewarts thrown in for good measure. Enjoy watching motorsport, although I don't think I'm going to get to many races anymore, the expense of ferries will stop that.

Hey, I'd like to give this a go too.

I'm a 43 y.o. married guy living in Cheshire, England. As well as pens and all thing inky I am very much into brass bands. As well as my day job I also work on a part-time basis as a professional photographer. My other passion is genealogy (don;t start me on that one! :) )Look forward to hearing from someone soon - else I shall think that I'm all alone in the world. Maybe I read too much science fiction? Nah. Just Douggie Adams, John Wndham and HG Wells. OK maybe a little bit of Jukles Verne too - but not too much now.

Just so you know - I can spell but I can't type. Write to me and see how you rate my handwriting compared to my typing.

Just to repost my interest.

I have already found one new pen-friend here (though I haven't got around to riting back in a while, sorry) so I'll bump my post up for some more. I'll snail-mail with anyone, but I'm particularly interested in folks outside of the USA as most of my current pen-friends and journalling colleagues seem to come from that country already.

^^^^

I find e-mail to be cold, emotionless and easily misconstrued even when "emoticons" are added. Electrons spend their entire day whizzing around their orbit without a care for anything except the nearest nucleus. Any concept of a larger universe is completely beyond them.

However, when once you send a letter, the paper feels as comforted in the envelope as it would in the womb. Plus, it gets the feeling that is it somehow special because someone took all the time and effort to fill a fountain pen with ink and write an actual letter upon it's surface, not a message of great importance, necessarily. Possibly one of great joy to a young love, or that lovers long separated will soon be united, or maybe, sadly, the marking of the passing of a loved one, which is sure to bring sorrow to the recipient of such a missive. Or possibly, just a "Hello, how you doing?"

In any case, it knows someone was caring enough that they took a little bit of extra time to write with pen and paper, even if a seemingly unimportant note, rather than simply send a cold, impersonal, uncaring, unfeeling, soon to deleted e-mail, never to be remembered again. Plus, unlike cold, impersonal e-mail, It seldom interrupts one who is trying to do actual research by begging for attention.

A handwritten letter will lie there in it's quiet dignity until the addressee comes to pick it up at the proper moment of the time for reading messages. Some understand. Others, unfortunately, never will.

If interested, please send pm. Thank you.

OK, so this does look like it can be fun, please add me to the "list".

Bio;

50yo married male living in beautiful rural Maryland.

Computer guy my whole life, or it seems that way anyway! I was a psy major in college and while I was working my way through it I picked up a position in a large data center, changed my major and never turned back. I minored in Philosophy and have to say it has been my saving grace throughout my life! I grew up in Brooklyn, NY, got married, got divorced, got married, had lots of kids and I'm enjoying this life immensely.

I ride motorcycles, not a Harley guy (Yamaha FZ1), because I love the beauty of feeling the world surround me. I turned 50 this year and celebrated by running the JFK 50 miler and had a blast, so I also love running.

I guess I left out a million things, so if anyone would like to chat, please PM me. I started a topic here a few weeks back; "What makes your ink flow". I was looking for ways to write more and someone suggested this. I'm somewhat new to FP's and I'm really enjoying them and would love to learn more about the pens and the people who use them!

Regards

Jack

I'd like to sign up for this "handwritten letters" thing.

I am 23 years old, male , and live in boiling hot Florida, USA. My interests are history, politics, science, current events, football and baseball.

I am easy going, love to joke around with my friends, though I tend to be formal around those I do not know.

I would love to get correspondence from anyone around the world, even someone else in the US will do. I have never gotten a hand written letter. :crybaby: You have the power to change that

Ball-point pens are only good for filling out forms on a plane.

Well this looks like it could be fun. I'm a 20 year old college student. I enjoy reading, writing, theatre, music, architecture, drawing, antiques/vintage things, history, and much more. My pen collecting focuses on modern German and Italian pens. PM me if you're interested in writing.

19 years old(currently)

Born March 28th, 1989

Interests are journaling, weaving, writing(fictional stories, mostly fantasy), fairy tales, zombies, mythology, libraries, movies(Serenity, Mirrormask, Kill Bill, The Prestige, The Man From Earth), reading(The Abhorsen Series, Harry Potter, Claws, Uglies, Trickster's Choice, The Supernaturalist, The Animorphs Series), cooking, traveling(I've done almost none of it, but I love to do it), war, history, archaeology, anthropology(I'm majoring in it at the University of Alabama), and stationery.

I do have a little warning: I don't have a mailbox at the school--yet. I get my mail at home, and I visit home every two weeks.

So if you send letters, until summertime at least, they won't exactly be instantaneous returns.(I live at a dorm during the collegeyear, and then at home during the summertime/winter breaks)

I hope that doesn't dissaude people. I'm thinking about getting a P.O. box at the school.

I did try this before with people my own age that I met at college(their idea) and no one ever had money for stamps or apparently time to mail things off. It was fun for the two people who actually wrote me back, though.

PM me for address.

I'd like to be in too! As others here, I haven't received a handwritten letter in ages...

Can't wait to receive one written with a fountainpen!

About myself: I am a 32 years old girl (can't think of myself as a woman yet, although I'm 32 years old, mother of two sons (one of 2-and-a-half years old and one of 9 months old, married and... well.. I should be mature by now... I am woman then, ain't I? Just doesn't feel that way... maybe I will always be a girl....)

I was really happy when I found the FPN a while ago. A whole new world opened up! I've always been a fountainpenfreak, but had to do with the ones you can buy in the stores here in The Netherlands. Not to mention the inks....

The most precious pen I own is my fathers old Pelikan 120. Right now I'm in the fase of sorting out my collection and reduce it to a few pens that I want to use daily. Don't know if I manage that though....

Please PM me if you want to write!

Grettings fellow FPNers.

I thought I'd put my name in the hat for the pen-pal list. I'm male, twenty years old, to begin. I have sundried interests, ranging from writing, to technology, linguistics, classics, psychology, and metaphysics, to name a few. It's sometimes difficult for me to keep up with everything because I do so much switching. I enjoy reading, especially fiction: science fiction and fantasy. I've read through several series since 8th grade when I first became interested. The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan, Harry Potter, Abhorsen Trilogy. My favorite authors are Terry Brooks and David Eddings. I enjoy eccentricity.

I recently ordered my first fountain pen and a bottle of ink. So I'd be happy to correspond with newbies like me as well :D.

PM me if you're interested.

I'm usually good for at least a quick note, though, to be fair, it should be noted (as KCat can attest) that my handwriting is peculiar, eccentric, and legibilitily-challenged. Oh, and I'm mostly a blue-ink kind of guy, so...

I'm also really boring; I spend most of my time doing nerdish things with computers, and an inordinate amount of time either getting into trouble or taking strange photographs of strange places.

You've been warned. :D

Cool photos. If you send me some prints as *postcards*, I will send you some postcards of my stuff......PM me if you are interested. Loved your blog on photographer's rights and the fed statutes re: homeland security.

I read all 29 pages! Well, I was looking on the internet for penpals - but the new penpals are all on email and instant messaging. I messaged a few of them, trying to explain that my desire for a penpal was to write handwritten letters. I've been on FPN for some time, but never thought to look here! This actually tuned up when I started searching for military penpals. ---- Think I'm rambling a bit now, is that bad?

I used to receive handwritten letters from my grandma at birthdays and holidays. They usually had a couple dollar bills enclosed, and as I was younger then, I was more interested in the dollars than the letter. As I grew older I started to enjoy hearing about what was going on up there (My grandma lived in Ohio, I am in FL). She died years ago and now I think back to the time and personal attention shown in those handwritten letters. That's why I want to be in the FPN snailmail group I think.

Don't want to give the whol bio away, or there would be little to write about. PM for address or give me yours. I've never had a penpal so any helpful advice will be appreciated. Also need to know where to buy good stationary locally (such as at the Staples store).

I also am not familiar with the rules for sending mail overseas. Do I have to visit the post office, or can I apply the appropriate postage and send it from my home?

I read all 29 pages!

Wow... that is serious dedication!

As long as it is a letter and not a package, you can just apply the appropriate postage from home. The regular first-class rate, whether it be international or domestic, applies for letters up to one ounce.

The usps postage calculator is delightfully handy, but the basic info is that a first-class letter (again, up to 1 ounce) costs as follows:

Canada & Mexico: 72¢

Other countries: 94¢

If you are a REAL postal geek like me, you have a little tiny brass hanging scale to weigh letters. That nice, thick Crane paper, in a long letter, occasionally takes me over the 1oz mark.

Can't help you with good stationery locally... I have no local source meself, and buy the darn stuff online or when traveling.

Thanks for the info. So I need to look for this "Crane" stationary? Is that the consensus for writing letters? Is it ruled or blank?

I enjoy letters written on notebook paper in a #10 envelope just as much as the finest stationery. Well, maybe not quite as much, but the difference is negligible.

Hello! I've just acquired my second fountain pen, and I'm looking to write letters!

I've been interested in unusual writing instruments for a while. I started with rollerballs, since ballpoints felt wrong and the rollerballs wrote much more smoothly. From there I became interested in dip pens, but I realized that I wanted something that I could write with away from a desk--something that held its own ink. I saw how pretty many of the fountain pens were and how smoothly they wrote, so I was finally converted. I've got a Phileas and a Levenger TrueWriter, with two Cross pens on the way, plus some Pelikan ink and a pending order for several more interesting Herbin and Noodlers colors.

Last summer I learned some basics of sailing a 17th century tallship, and with any luck I'll be spending a few months on the same ship after I graduate. I'm 21 and in my final year of college, studying a broad liberal arts curriculum (philosophy, literature, history, science, linguistics, mathematics, music, and so on). I love books, reading, cooking, mythology, traveling, dance (swing, waltz, tango), biology (I raise axolotls), photography, and various hand-crafts.

If you're interested, please drop me a PM!

Hi.

I'm ToasterPastry.

You can read my semi-fictional biography on my profile page. However, the "real" truth is that I'm a cardiologist in San Diego, Calif. Well, that actually isn't true either. The truth is I'm an international super-spy who fights world-crime villains who work for Special Executive for Counter-intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge and Extortion. Write me.
