Snail Mail Writing List

Titivillus

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I would like to add my name to the list. When I was younger, I really got into snail mail and had a variety of pals from all over the country and the world, but.... well, if you are on this list, then you can probably fill in the blank there. :ltcapd:

I am married, 43, work in higher education (teaching Biology at a small private college), and have a variety of interests, most of which revolve around writing, reading, music, pens, and paper. I have a small collection of FPs, but I do love them, and I am just getting reacquainted with them after a long dry spell (no pun intended).

I am not the speediest of correspondents (at least, I never was in the past -- maybe that's changed!), but I am very faithful.

Randall

My turn!

I am a 30-year-old married woman in Vancouver, B.C., who's currently working on a Ph.D. in sociology of education and science. (I study forest researchers...!) I enjoy reading - usually non-fiction that has something to do with natural history, forests, fisheries, engineering, medicine, etc. - and my other hobbies are running and road cycling. I also enjoy very good food and drinks of all sorts. I love writing letters in my two languages - French and English - but unfortunately my long-time penpals have vanished with time...

Looking forward to reading some of your lines, perhaps...

Hello, I would very much enjoy corresponding with folks on here, and will have to go through the dozen pages before me at some point.

I am nineteen years old, I am a sophomore studying art at The Cooper Union. I am moving to Brooklyn tomorrow. Appropriately, my main interest is art and art history, and I've become very opinionated but also very open to argument (discussion). I also have an interest in men's clothing, though I don't have the time or budget to really indulge. History in general interests me, fountain pens of course, coffee, tea, things that have different grades and types. I like to research and know a lot about anything, I hate having incomplete knowledge. I read a good bit, mostly art related but have been into a lot of Italo Calvino lately and return often to Raymond Carver. I've been trying to learn more about poetry and have been reading Louise Gluck and Ted Kooser to satisfaction. I'd love for someone to point me forcefully in a poetic direction. As far as music, I like Tom Waits and certain hip hop, because I enjoy good/witty storytelling, interesting diction, and a unique voice.

I could have sworn that I have already posted to this one....maybe not!

I would love to receive some snail mail - and I'd love the excuse to sit down for half an hour (or so!) and take some time out of doing the boring stuff to write (probably about the boring stuff!).

I have always loved old writing and have decided that this year I am going to do all the things that I have put off over and over again - learning to write calligraphy is one of them. I've already bought an old writing slope that I've restored and I've got the dip pens, the ink, the fountain pens, and even the paper - but I've still not managed to actually sit down and use the stuff! (haven't got anyone to write to!)

So who wants to be the first person to give me the kick I need???

:roflmho:

Suppose I'd better give a little bit of info: 36 year old married mum of two boys living in Manchester, UK. If you want to know any more about me then you'd better give me a shout!

I'm game to give this a try. I'm a 50 (as of yesterday) year old married male. I'm retired military; and, currently work for the military as a civil servant. I don't want to give too much away here; or, you won't have any reason to write. If anyone would be interested in corresponding, please drop me a note. Thanks for reading this.

I'm an officer of submarines in the U.S. Navy, currently stationed in New England. I'll be finishing up my tour soon and heading to school for inorganic chemistry. My other interests are off-roading, artisanal gin, cigars and tea. I'd especially like to send/receive letters in Blue Ghost!

 Please count me in! My name is Laura. I am a full-time student, mother and work outside of the home. I'm kept pretty busy but would love to exchange postcards. It would be wonderful to get mail that isn't bills! Getting mail from all over the world is very intriguing indeed!

I'm usually good for at least a quick note, though, to be fair, it should be noted (as KCat can attest) that my handwriting is peculiar, eccentric, and legibilitily-challenged. Oh, and I'm mostly a blue-ink kind of guy, so...

I'm also really boring; I spend most of my time doing nerdish things with computers, and an inordinate amount of time either getting into trouble or taking strange photographs of strange places.

You've been warned. :D

Mike, Very excited to see these photos! I studied geology for a while because of caves; and I saw a TV program about the Subterranean worlds under London and Paris etc, very strange but beautiful in a strange way . Please message me if you want to have a penpal! I love writing letters by snail mail!

There is a Postcard Swap list, too, Laura, so you might prefer that :)

I have recently revived my FP writing after decades of BPs and keyboards.

Don't expect calligraphy from me...I am working at tidying-up my scrawl which will never be beautiful.

A recently widowed (after 36years married) Brit, who's lived in a few other countries, now retired and living on Spain's Costa Blanca.

An animal lover (but not a fanatic)...I have a dog & a cat, 3 daughters & 2 grandchildren.

I like pub quizzes, am learning to play the saxophone (badly), and spend too much time on internet forums, when I should be practising, walking the dog or domestic things!

I am re-adding my name to the hat.

I am a married with one 10 year old son. We have two cats and one dog. I like journaling, rubber stamping, scrapbooking and of course collecting fountain pens and vintage ink bottles.

What a great idea! I miss the good old days of snail mail. Email just seems so ... what ... impersonal I guess. For me reading a hand written letter just makes the connection stronger somehow.

So drop me a PM and let's get to know eachother.

I'm a 57 year old Canadain expatiate now living in the United States. Married to a wonderful woman who tolerates my fountain pen fetish (actually, she even has a couple of her own). I work as the financial manager for a university chemistry department, but I'm anxiously looking forward to retirement. I enjoy books, old movies, travel, biking, fountain pens (of course) - but am not an expert on any of these - heck, I'm not an expert on anything. But my penmanship is readable, I'm prompt and reliable in my correspondence, and a decent speller.

And best of all ... I'm anxious to get to know you.

Todd

added 2/5/08: After mentioning this to my wife, she would like to join in as well. So, we'll be writting as a couple. :)

I have to say, I'm loving the snail mail exchanges I'm in. Right now I've got three letters on my desk awaiting responses. I'm finding that I respond to snail mail almost faster than I respond to e-mail, simply because there's less competition for my off-computer time. Unfortunately, all the cool paper I bought from nota bene is mired in the office delivery system. :bonk: I'll wait one more day ...

My new stationery came :bunny01: but I'd caught up on all of my correspondence before then, so now I have no one to write to. So I'll reopen my invitation for new correspondents. If nothing else, I can promise you that I write back promptly!

Also new to the list and wouldn't mind joining the snail mail writing list to include the post card version also. Home is Michigan and I'm already tired of the "winter wonderland". Regards.

Count me in.

I am a 50 something pediatrician who loves reading, correspondence, walking, hiking, played the violin for many years (sorta retired now for voice), taking voice lessons for the first time, love creating things and trying these things out, photography, love new ideas. I love Pema Chodron and Eckhardt's A New Earth before it hit Oprah's List. I am not a New Age nor a fountain pen snob. Married with two grown kids.

Who you are and what you write with bothers me not, but legibility is always a plus.

PM or email for particulars.

My Pen collection started as most did with an Esterbrook. I remember picking it up silver and black, thinking five dollars is a lot for a pen but it sure is neat. Took home and found that it worked, which was great, then the search for ink. Found some Quink blue-black and began writing letters with that fountain pen. Occasionally over the next few years visited flea markets and saw some pens but never as nice, did find another nib and the address of the company in a box (didn’t know they had stopped producing). Too much school and too much work pushed the pen to the back of the drawer. Then my father in law passed, I was given a Parker 51 box full of old pens found a red Balance that was given to him before the war. Thought it might be repaired so I went to the net to find a repairer. Found so much more, saw pens that were still being produced that became objects of desire, I wanted more pens. Pelikan, Parker, OMAS, Dupont and Rotring, Bexley , Stipula , Krone. I lurked and I listened to several net boards to what people were using and what they preferred, found eBay and really started to buy. Looked for pen stores in cities I was visiting. And I bought more until two score pens I owned and admired. I went through a downsizing of my collection and have ended up with 12 pens that might be inked up at any time and another 3 that are sentimental. My preference for nibs has been fine but slowly I have tried to get more variation in my writing. I live outside of New Orleans and am a officer of one of the Mardi Gras Carnival Krewes.

That is I use to live just outside of New Orleans. Now I live just outside of Allentown, PA to be closer to family and work for a different company. I'm still at about 12 pens but the 12 probably are totally different from the ones 8 months ago. As I am moving to a new area there is going to be a time trying to fit into a new culture. But at least I can see my favorite art in less than 2 hours.

Still looking for snailers, I've got a new batch of seals coming and more Crane & Original Crown Mill paper than I can deal with. A created and bound a small book for one of my recent letters, not that it will happen all the time but I can be creative and rather supriseing.

So it you'd like an interesting letter PM me.

Kurt

I'm a newbie here too. I'm a 42 year old married guy living in Cheshire in the UK.

I was a prolific letter writer in my younger days, but e-mail and texting seem to have caused others to drop the habit of writing. I spent 20 years working in the rail industry before taking redundancy and setting up my own businesses.

I'd be interested in corresponding with anyone. PM me for details if you are interested.

Lets see, I am in my mid- 20's, live in South Florida and would be interested in snail mail with anyone either in the US or anywhere else in the world.

My degree was in International Relations, currently in the process of trying to get into law school.

My interests are history, science, art, reading, politics and a little bit of philosophy. I also enjoy writting about simpler day to day things.

Please PM me if you'd like to correspond with me. My Pelikans could use a good workout, some of the have been laying uninked for a good while.

I'm an English writer, historian and photographer (the last two are primarily my "day job"). Single, aged 48 and with two elderly parents and a Beagle hound to look after. :D

I've had numerous hobbies over the years and I still keep an interest in many things historical or scientific. Lately, however, my primary spare-time focus is on reading, researching and writing fantasy stories. My interest in fountain pens ties in with my writing activities.

Amongst various pens I own one or two Italian LE's such as an Omas Galileo Galilei. I have a small range of Parker 51's from First Year to Aerometric, which I use as daily writers or for post cards. I also own a Nakaya Tamenuri 'long cigar' clipless pen, and have a Danitrio Mikado Tamenuri clipless on order from windedoc; these Zen-like Japanese pens are primarily for first drafts of stories and journalling and reside safely in my writing bureau.

My five favourite fantasy writers are: JRR Tolkien, Michael Moorcock, Terry Pratchett, Robert E. Howard and H.P. Lovecraft, though I enjoy all original and well-crafted fantasy, dark fantasy and gothic stories from the 19th century to the present day. I also enjoy quality science fiction.

I'd be particularly interested in corresponding with fellow fantasy readers and writers.
