The fins are obviously for cooling purposes ... else the ink could boil when writing very quickly.

He's right, though. Since losing my (sic) fin, my writing is 3 degrees hotter.

Sort of wish I had not asked now but, like in a classroom full of scholars, I bet a few have read this and are thinking "so thats what they are for, so glad someone else asked"

Actually the fins are so the pen can swim faster.

Sorry for resurrecting rather than starting a new one... How probable is it (in general) that such fin will break off one day eventually (considering normal use)?
