Good Red Inks For Teachers Grading On Awful Paper?

The permanent in the name might indicate 'not washable' rather than 'waterproof/bulletproof/eternal'.

Yeah, I think of "permanent" as meaning it will permanently stain your clothes even if not truly waterproof. :P

I've had good luck with Diamine Red Dragon - seems to work well on cheap paper without spreading (although I haven't tried it in a broad nib yet)

Why always use red ?

I can't remember when I stopped using red and turn to orange : it's easy to read, pupils can't try to change what I've written because they don't have the colour :)

I use Iroshizuku Yu Yake in a Pilot Capless with a M nib, and have no problem, whatever paper is used ...

(And I must admit that last year, I began correcting with other colours ... the most important thing to me is that it's different from the pupil's ink so that's easy to see the difference ...).

I think I might go back to red to correct, because I fall in love with the Mont Blanc Red Velvet/Shakespeare Special Edition

One pen roll, two pen rolls, three pen rolls ... So many pen rolls ! Do you want one ?

I'm sure a lot of us grade in many different colors, it's just that the specific topic of this thread was red inks. There are several other threads about non-red inks for grading. :)

Sometimes institutions require instructors to only use red to correct, so this is a place to find the best options that remain within those parameters.

No reason. Until this year, I used a lot of colors. As you say, they don't have those colors. Speaking for myself, the only requirement I have is that the ink show up on student work. I'm using red this year because I'm trying to use up a bottle of Noodler's Nikita Red.

For anyone needing a 100% waterproof red ink for grading, I just had a great experience grading exams with De Atramentis Document Red. The ink can feather and bleed through, but in a dry writer I had none of those problems and it dries quickly. It's not an eye-popping red by any means, but it's totally permanent, flows extremely well, and in a dry vintage Sheaffer No-Nonsense fine italic (red, of course) it was a dream to grade with.
