Last month I bought a few bottles of Sailor ink from Amazon. Snagged great prices, a few of shipped from Japan. I've been enjoying them and now understand why people like Sailor.

I've been wanting to do Sailor Shigure, as I'm on a bit of a purple kick. Bought it from Amazon since it had a great price. Arrived yesterday and I had to wait till late last night to get into it.

You know, sometimes when you open a bottle of ink it just doesn't look like it's going to be the color you expect? And then you write with it, and everything is perfect? Well, when I opened the bottle it looked.. off. Dark Purple though, so I'll roll with it. Filled the pen, wrote a few lines. Something...was off. But hey, low light because it's late at night, right? I pushed a drop of ink out of the pen onto the page, folded the paper and gave it a rub - smeared the ink around quite well.

Yep. it's not purple at all. It's green.

Checked the box - yep, they labeled it as Shigure. Looked up pictures of the Shigure bottles online... and neat, the kanji on the left side of the label is different.

A bit more looking at bottle pictures and... I've got a bottle of Sailor Miruai!

So that's what I'm using today. An unexpected green. Looks good so far though!

My opinion of course... Miruai is FANTASTIC!!!!... Shigure is Ok!!.. You did GOOD!!!

For purples inks.. I don't find Shigure special enough.... Is nice, just not special enough. Miruai is quite special for a green ink...

My opinion of course... ;)

So today, my four pens are inked with Lamy: blue, and Herbin: Perle Noir, Terre de Feu, and Vert Pre.

I'm not super happy with the color of the Vert Pre - it's a bit light, and I want to darken it a bit. I'm going to add a bit of Herbin Vert Empire and see what happens.

Right now I'm using: Sailor Blue, Sailor Sailor Yama Dori(teal), and Shigure(purple).

Last week I bought a bottle of Shigure. I had never used any Sailor ink and thought I might as well discover why that brand has its particular cachet. Granted that most of the online drama surrounds competition for limited edition inks, it seems that the enthusiasm really is based on some quality (other than scarcity) that Sailor inks have and others don't. I am hoping Shigure will demonstrate what that quality is, despite the fact that one can obtain it without having to go to extraordinary lengths.

The same day I posted my last ink entry I lost the pen :( luckily it was a cheap Pilot Metropolitan, but it was my first fountain pen...

Today I am using Seitz-Kreuznach Arctic Blue, in a cheap Jinhao 250 I won't care if I lose.

OMAS Turquoise.

First time I've used this ink, which I found in a B&M store on a recent work-trip. I don't usually go for turquoise, but I couldn't resist the beautiful Omas bottle, which I know isn't being made any more. Overall, I think I prefer Rohrer & Klingner's Blu Mare, but it is a very nice ink, with superb flow and some decent shading.

I have four pens inked this week and they are:

* 1965 Parker 75 w/18k #66 nib and filled with Aurora Black

* 1954 Pelikan 400N w/a soft 14k OF nib and filled with Pelikan 4001 Blue

* 1994 Parker Sonnet w/18k M nib and filled with Aurora Blue ink

* 1960 Parker 45 w/ steel #66 nib and filled with Omas Amerigo Vespucci ink.

This Omas ink was made in the '90s and I just opened a NOS bottle I've had. It is a nice free flowing ink, as were all of their inks and really likes this 45. It is a nice reddish brown and looks really nice on most papers . I wish you could still get their inks but sadly no one has picked up on the ink production !
