What's your (or anyone else's reading this) take on Aquamarine vs. Iroshizuku Ku-jaku (assuming you have used Ku-jaku)? I am just now learning to appreciate teal colors, and I broke down and bought some Ku-jaku, but I have not yet tried Aquamarine.

In the comparisons I have seen, the Ku-jaku looks a bit more saturated than Aquamarine (which isn't surprising), but the color differences are tough to capture on an electronic screen.

I do not have Pelikan Edelstein Aquamarine but have found Kujaku to be a fine match for my Pelikan 140 EF.  I did not especially like it at first, because at full saturation it was greener than I prefer, but in a dry pen it has the color and luminosity of tropical waters.

Caran d'Ache Divine Pink, Sailor Jentle Apricot, and Sheaffer Persian Rose.  Maybe a little Herbin Bleu Azur.

But another shipment from Vanness arrived so it could all change.

First post on FPN, and eyes wide open!

Just ordered Bad Belted Kingfisher- BBK. It should work well in my Sonnet pen.

Welcome aboard, and that’s a  fine ink, with good water resistance.

Sailor Kobe #38 Kitanosaka Night Blue in the Pelikan M205 Blue Marbled

KWZ Honey in the Pelikan M200 Brown Marbled

Not as much writing getting done lately as I've been busy with a job. So keeping only two pens filled.

  • Sailor Kobe #9 Suma Purple in my Sailor 1911S Wicked Witch of the West M.  I have tried a few other inks in the pen but keep coming back to Suma Purple because, if I have a pen that is always inked, I might as well use my favorite ink in it.
  • J Herbin Cacao du Bresil in my Pilot Metropolitan M.  I like this ink very much, but after two months, I am looking forward to emptying the pen.
  • Pilot Iroshizuku Murasaki Shikibu in a Platinum 3776 M, my quintessential spring ink.

  • Waterman Tender Purple - Conid Kingsize (just emptied and cleaned!)
  • KWZ Red #3 Iron Gall - Opus 88 Jazz with gold Jowo (on the last fumes)
  • Diamine Writer's Blood - TWSBI Draco
  • Sailor Souboku - Sailor 1911L

Ku-jaku is lovely, and harder to clean out of a pen than the Edelstein inks. I’d say the Pilot is more saturated. Both are great inks, but the Edelstein seem to be very low maintenance and a great match for my Pelikan pens.

Yes, I find the Iroshizuku inks to be in general a bit more saturated than the Edelsteins, but (up to now) not enough to be a cleaning problem. I have Ku-jaku currently in two pens. It will be interesting to see how it cleans up.

A would agree that the Iroshizuku inks flow a little bit more freely than the Edelstein inks, and Pelikan pens tend to have feeds and nibs with generous flow.

In some swabs I have seen, the Ku-jaku looks slightly greener and the Aquamarine slightly bluer, but in others it seems not so clear. I have Ku-jaku but not Aquamarine and I am trying to get more data on where folks think both lie on the teal (blue-green) spectrum.

My impression is that with Kujaku, the wetter the pen is, the greener the ink looks.  My Pelikan is far from generous in its flow and tones down the green.

Today’s it’s Caran d’Ache Amazon in my Pelikan M800 Green and Black with a 14kt medium nib. Started out great, but after more than a month in this pen this ink is starting to feel dry and scratchy. Plus, I think I prefer a darker green. Weird, this used to be one of my favorites. The discontinued cube bottles are still very pretty.

It is funny how tastes change.  I would have thought that combo would be perfect.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

That is a little bit what I observe, but in general, I find Ku-jaku goes on quite blue, and then dries in the green direction. And yes, with heavier application (wetter), the effect it easier to see.

I guess I am just going to have to break down and buy some Aquamarine and compare (fortunately, I have a brick and mortar Pelikan dealer close by). I am sure I can always pass it forward to someone if I don't like it.

Thanks for the comments.

I occurs to me that my green pens are almost always inked with some kind of green ink, except my Green-Black Pelikans. They are among my oldest and most beloved pens, and I suppose on traditional grounds typically inked with blue-black or black.

I have a Lamy Studio in Olive that I thought was perfect with Edelstein Olivine, and I used that combo for a long time. Then, for a while, I found I liked Iroshizuku Shin-ryoku better in that pen, and then I spent a bit of time with 4001 Dark Green in the pen, and now I have been using R&K Alt Goldgrün in the pen for few months.

Yes, at least speaking for me, my taste in green ink seems to be quite fickle. Perhaps that is part of the reason I have a tough time warming up to teals even though I am intrigued by them. I am not sure I have ever met a blue I didn't like, at least a little, and usually a lot.

Edelstein Olivine is still a great ink though, and it lives now part-time by me in an M205 Olivine pen, when that pen is in rotation.

Those look like very fun colors. I like the Blue Velvet Cake the best of the four, but all are interesting. The Mango Mousse looks like it might be a little hard to read in small print or as a full page of text.
