Which Inks Are You Using Today?

Well, I finally used up the fill of Birmingham Waterfront Dusk in my Kaweco Sport and now have the following three inks in use:

  • Sailor Shigure, in the Sailor 1911S Wicked Witch of the West, M nib.
  • Montblanc Lavender Purple, in the Shaeffer Tuckaway Deluxe, F or EF nib. (The pen writes about the same width line as my Prera F, only wetter, so I'm guessing that it's an EF nib.)
  • Sailor Kobe Taisanji Yellow, in the Peyton Street Pen Works prototype, medium cursive italic nib. I bought Taisanji Yellow for my Pelikan 140, but that pen doesn't put down enough ink for the line to be legible. The PSPW pen is much wetter and produces an eminently readable line.

Today it's been J Herbin Violet Pensee, in the black Parker 61, M? nib; and vintage Quink Microfilm Black, in the Silver Pearl Parker Vac Major, F nib.

Time to doodle some flowers! So, you didn't put Ink of the Witch into the Wicked Witch pen? That's okay, Shigure is AWESOME.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Maybe I will! I don't have Ink of the Witch. I should get a sample, at least, at some point.

On a Iroshizuku tear recently (as that was the first cut of what to rescue from my now empty work office).

Take-Sumi in a Pilot 823, italic cursive. (was the Sailor Kiwa-Guru, but this pen really likes the Pilot ink, big difference)

Shin-Kai in a new Aurora 88, italic cursive. (and I really love this pen. Did a dip of Hatsukoi, but have had the Shin-Kai for a while, and liking both)

Tsuki-Yo in a Pilot 823. This combination has been going for years non-stop. The workhorse pen, and the workhorse, put a smile on my face, ink...

Sei-Boku in a Sailor Pro Gear 1911. Another favorite combo, and now my only "permanent" ink in rotation.

I'm actually looking forward to being able to use red, but haven't reviewed anyone's work in months. I'm in a blue black space right now.

J. Herbin Les Subtiles Violette in my Pelikan M600 White and Violet with an EF nib. It's too dry for this pen and feels scratchy. Plus, the scent isn't really strong enough to penetrate allergy season. I think this ink needs a broader, wetter nib.

Jacques Herbin Vert Atlantide in my Pilot Parallel with a 6mm nib in a Graphic Image journal with cream paper:

That's a nice green.

I'm writing today with some recently acquired KWZ IG Green #3, which I bought as a replacement for Private Reserve Avacado (sic) after sampling many other suggested inks as substitutes. For an IG ink from KWZ, I have not seen much color change as it dries. I had to check the bottle to be sure it was the correct ink, and it is different than the other my other KWZ greens (nonIG) samples in that color range. Altogether, a very satisfying substitute for Avacado for writing-those using Avacado for drawing may be looking for some of Avacado's other attributes.

Today so far, it's been:

1. diluted Akkerman Laan van Nieuw Oost-Indigo, in the Pelikan M600 Violet and White, EF nib.

2. Robert Oster GoGo, in the Noodler's Cobalt FPC, flex nib.

3. Ferris Wheel Press Tanzanite Sky, in the Cross Solo, red, F nib.

I'm playing with samples these last few days. My two current mainly used pens are/are inked with:

  • Pelikan Brown Marbled M205 M nib turned to a somewhat Naginata imitation "architect", inked with KWZ IG Green #4
  • Opus 88 Koloro Demonstrator, where I'm continuously switching the nib, was inked with KWZ Monarch, now inked with KWZ Gummiberry.

I am in love with KWZ inks. Though far from every ink of theirs are to my liking colour-wise, there's a few that absolutely stun me, and every single ink has the properties I look for in ink. I've tried many and have used a few as stables for the past year, and they never let me down. Not sponsored, just a huge fan.

Reloading of the the pens. Usually I keep only three pens in rotation. Now there is

Sailor Pen & Message (Writing Lab) Quadrifoglio in the Edison Coller "Metallurgy" (grail pen)

KWZ Monarch in an Edison Mina "Silver Amber"

Noodler's FPN Dumas Tulipe Noire in a Pelikan M405 Stresemann.

The lines look a little woolly in the image as I write them immediately after filling so the feeds are over-saturated (especially the Min\a). They'll mellow out in a bit.

So far today it's been finishing the fill of Ferris Wheel Press Tanzanite Sky, in the red Cross Solo, F nib, and finishing up my morning pages journal entry with diluted Akkerman Laan van Nieuw Oost-Indigo, in the Pelikan M600 Violet and White, EF nib.

Playing about with a substitute for Noodlers Black Swans in English Roses in the form of Pure Pens Cadwaladr (A deep red) with a few drops of Noodlers X-Feather. A bit much X-Feather, knocked it over the fence from red to brown, maybe. Not a close match but I think it looks nice for what it is. Shades nicely.

1. Jinhao 992 filled

2. Jinhao 992 dipped in the last bit of a sample

3. Jinhao 991 eyedroppered. It's kind of wet, and a cracked cap let the ink condense way down, so...

4. Jinhao 992 freshly dipped

I used a sample of Pure Pens’ Flower of Scotland that MsRedPen sent me. It is in a Jinhao x750 checkerboard pen with a Nemosine 0.6mm stub nib.

I similarly strive to support my local brick and mortar store. And I agree, Iroshizuku Murasaki Shikibu is a nice ink.
