Grey never got past a few trial runs, and the days are getting shorter to try to make it work....

An Orange Mix (of orange samples) in my iItalian vintage Piave

Pelikan 4001 Turquoise in an Eversharp Skyline

Diamine Meadow in a Pelikan 400NN.

Diamine Document Urban Grey in a Pelikan 120 (I always have one permanent ink going for checks and envelopes).

except for the last one these are an attempt at a Spring Ink palette which also included R&K Solferino (magenta-purple) until I realized it was staining my beloved Waterman 52 RHR.

I am awaiting a package from Jet Pens which contains my Summer Ink palette: Eclat de Saphir, Diamine Poppy Red, Pilot Iroshizuku Shin-Ryoku (medium green).

I ordered a bunch of blue samples. Today, I am trying out:
  • Ferris Wheel Press Jelly Bean Blue - TWSBI Go 1.1 -- need to try in a F or M pen, but so far I really like this ink!
  • Private Reserve Lake Placid Blue - Preppy 03 -- terrific basic blue that behaves well (in this pen, at least)
  • Noodler's Bernanke Blue - Shaeffer Prelude F -- apparently notorious for feathering and bleeding. But in this overly fine nib, it's pretty much controlled. Dries in under 10 seconds and makes this scratchy writer the smoothest yet of the 5 or 6 inks I have tried. It has me wanting to use this pen as a daily driver.
Side note: Bernanke Blue and Lake Placid Blue are basically the same color!
All three of these inks have to the potential to challenge as a regular daily blue, I think.

So far this morning it's been Robert Oster Grey Seas, in the Violet Safari, B nib; and diluted Edelstein Olivine, in the M405 Stresemann, B nib. Trying to decide if I'm going to flush the Safari, refill it, or refill with distilled water, but I am really starting to like Grey Seas a whole lot. I still have some ink in the sample vial, but I'm not sure it's enough to tide me over until I get a chance to get to a pen show or put another order in someplace.... (Olivine, OTOH, does not take to dilution well: lots of shading but a boring color otherwise, whereas undiliuted it's lovely).

But it's still only mid-morning. Not sure what I'll be using later, but I do have to pay some bills, so it will be something more permanent -- probably KWZI IG Blue #3.

This is interesting to know. Where are you observing the stain?

R & K Solferino is one of my spring colors also, but I have only once used it in a vintage pen. Right now I have it in a Sailor Pro Gear Slim.

Today's it's been diluted Noodler's 54th Massachusetts, in the Noodler's ebonite Konrad, flex nib.

I want to get the fill used up, so I can get the pen flushed out: there seemed to be some sort of fuzzy growth on the edges of the feed :yikes: and I am probably going to have to disassemble the pen in its entirety to get it disinfected. :( (Anyone know if bleach is safe for ebonite? I don't have any phenol, and after I clean it I'm thinking that bleach -- or possibly B-brite (which is used for sterilizing stuff like pomebrewing equipment) may be the answer.

That and actually checking that bottle of 54th MA.... I'd hate to have to dump it, I rather like the ink. But I also don't want nasty stuff breeding in it.... Especially since mold is one of the things I'm allergic to....

Tonight it's Stipula Purple in the gold M200, for a nice change of pace.

It's hard work to tell which is Old Harry when everybody's got boots on.

Hi,

Diamine Green/Black.

I have many dark greens but this is one of my all time favorites.

Spot on in saturation, darkness and not too wet.

Best

Jens
