Im planning to draw crows. Naturally, I tested loads of blacks.

Ive three bottles of very old Quink Black Solv-X. All slightly different however, bottle No 1 is liquid crow feathers. Black where it needs to be and ever so slightly green elsewhere.

Will post something when Im happy. Thank goodness for eBay.

How do you like the KWZ IG Blue #3? I am thinking of getting it or its brother, KWZ IG Blue-Black. Does the #3 stay blue as it dries or does it darken to near black?

Rumpole

I have and like both. IG Blue #3 stays bluer (although not to the level of something like R&K Salix), while IG Blue-Black tends to oxidize darker.

Very good. Thanks for the information. It appears I can't go wrong with either.

  • Aurora Blue cart in Parker 45 (F)

Looks like there was still some black or blue-black in there from when I put this pen away a month or two ago. I really need to do a better job of flushing! :blush:

Today it's been:

1) Edelstein Olivine, in the M400 Stresemann, B nib;

2) KWZI IG Blue #3, in the pink Parker Vector, F nib;

3) Robert Oster Carbon Fire, in the Vibrant Pink TWSBI al-Star, 1.1 stub nib.

Got the Waterman Exception going again after a few years.

A good way to pretend it's new.

The pen won't roll of the table, it's not a good posting situation, but the barrel is very long and fits perfectly in my large hands unposted.

Filled it with Herbin's Blue Pervenche, my favourite from that brand, purchased Tuesday to celebrate stores that have withheld this shutdown...

Two bright inks for the last few weeks of spring:

  • Waterman Purple in a vintage Parker Duofold Junior flat top
  • Rohrer & Klingner Solferino in a Sailor Pro Gear Slim

If you closely these are two different inks.

Style dee Delta Umeda yasei ("Night Blue") in an Edison Mina (Ebonite blue, F)

KWZ Chicago Blue in an Edison Beaumont pneumatic (F). This is one of the wettest KWZ inks I've used. I'll have to give it a try in my Edison Brockton, which isn't a dry pen, but one that has quite a fine setting in its nib.

Blue color for blue skies!

Yeah, they are quite close, aren't they? Chicago Blue looks a tad bluer than Night Blue on my screen. I got lucky and got a bottle of Chicago Blue at some pen show a couple of years ago because the Chicago Show people had a table. It's a glorious color, and I really should use it more (it's one of those cases of "Do I use it because it's such a nice color, or NOT use it because I can't get any more...").

Yes they are close. The pic is a bit overexposed probably. The Style Dee ink is more muted, the Chicago brighter. I thought they'd be more different but that wasn't the case. Good thing I like blue! :)

I am waiting for some new and vintage pens in the mail - as well as some inks - so I have everything flushed out except two pens.

  • Noodler's Baystate Blue - Platinum Preppy Crystal (03), eyedroppered. This pen and this ink match perfectly. I get all the visual and waterproof benefit of BSB with very little of the paper issues.
  • Noodler's American Eel Black - TWSBI Eco (B). This ink makes this broad nib run a little more dry (I had BSB in it before, and it was out of control), and I really like the combination. Works on every paper I have tried.
