Noodler's Beaver still going strong in the Pelikan M400.

Monteverde Horizon Blue in an Edison Mina (F).

Sailor Kobe #38 Kitanosaka Night Blue in a Pelikan M101 (M).

The KZW Baltic Memories came and went fast as I used the fill straight away.

I have discovered the very nice Sailor 123... Stunning color!

Still using the Monteverde Horizon Blue at work, and the Sailor Kobe #38 for checks as the Pelikan M101 has a fat nib.

But I wanted a purple ink just cause that color hasn't been in the rotation in a while with my blue fixation. I'd bought a bottle of Pent Pen House Fujifusa from Vanness a while back, early last year. Never tried it until now. Filled the Edison Brockton, wrote a sample line, and disliked it. Too light for my tastes. The Brockton is a bit drier pen than some others, so maybe I'll have to give it another chance some day. But I have plenty of inks that look good in all my pens, so... it got dumped.

Then went with an ink I know I like — Sailor Kingdom Note Thysanostoma thysanura from their Jellyfish series. And just as jellyfish are waterproof, so is this ink.

White Lotus, I love the samples and like you, the Jelly Fish is a favorite.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Your photo of the Horizon Blue inspired me to pick up a sample yesterday. Haven't tried it out yet, but I'm looking forward to it.

Thanks,

D.

I have still not finished my first fill of Sailor Kobe Taisanji Yellow, which I couldn't use on a daily basis until it had concentrated for some weeks in a pen, but in the past few days I have inked two more pens and am now using:

  • TAG Kyoto Kyo-Iro Soft Snow of Ohara. This is my number one ink for use in winter, and my Pilot Metropolitan Medium shows it to advantage.
  • Pilot Iroshizuku Kujaku. I bought a Pelikan 140 nearly a year and half ago and was advised not to use purple ink in it. Since then, I have been trying ink after ink in search of one wet and lubricated enough to work well in the pen, which is an extra fine and runs dry. I do not have the space or the budget to keep buying inks, but it has also been frustrating to have a nice vintage pen that I could not enjoy because I didn't have the right ink for it. Finally, about a week ago, I tried Pilot Iroshizuku Kujaku--my daughter happened to return the bottle I gave her a few years ago--which produces a lovely line and mitigates feedback from the nib. I know that some people recommend against using Japanese inks in vintage pens, but ultimately I decided to take the risk. I will report if I notice any problems that might be attributable to my choice of ink.

Today, so far, it's been Nemosine Alpha Centauri (in the pink TWSBI 580-AL) and vintage Quink Permanent Royal Blue (in the Plum Demi Parker 51).

Used the 51 to sign the paperwork for the new line of credit paperwork. The guy told me I couldn't use the purple ink; not sure what he would have thought of the third pen (Noodler's ebonite Konrad) currently sporting Noodler's El Lawrence... Which appears to have separated somewhat -- I had to dump the fill I'd put in the pen yesterday morning and then refill after re-capping the bottle and shaking it up a lot; it was coming out a LOT greener than I had remembered it being....

Oku-Yama.

A wet ink in a wet pen, so it goes down super saturated, and shades fabulously. With a fine nib (FA) the sheen look black.

I received it as a gift over a year ago, and didn't use it until this week. I'll have to acquire several more bottles. Just in case.

Add lightness and simplicate.

Noodler’s Lermontov. Not a problem ink now that I have it in a pen with Flexinibs (sp?) ebonite feed.

Monteverde Olivine in a Jinhao x450 (I've thinned the nib down to a fine medium, and it shows the olive side of the ink a lot better)

Waterman Blue Black in Noodler's Ahab because I wanted to test another nib/feed adjustment

Herbin Cafe des Iles in Conklin Duragraph with Noodler's flex nib (plastic feed can't keep up, but this ink, which is a gorgeous brown in other pens, appears more golden in this combo)

Diamine Syrah in Kaweco Sport with medium nib.

DeAtramentis Moss Green and DeAtramentis Emerald Green

Nice combination for when you need a taste of green. Both are well behaved and flow nicely. I have the Moss Green in a Caran d'Ache 849 with a fine nib - not too dark but still very readable. The Emerald Green is in my Lamy Pacific with 1.5 stub nib which really shows off the ink's shading potential.
