Which Inks Are You Using Today?

I officially have nib envy. Is the EF flex good for Spensarian?

Hi, I would say yes... here a little writing sample:

What do You think about the nib?

I like ESSRI best with such wet eyedroppers, it should be as close as possible to the inks of 1915, when this pen was made...

Best

Jens

@ DilettanteG -- Hmmm. I've never tried the regular Noodler's Blue-Black; that looks quite nice in your photo. How teal is it in person compared to something like 54th Massachusetts?

(I really need to stop reading threads like these... :wallbash:).

Thanks!

In person, Noodler's 54th looks, and feathers, like some one watered down some Noodler's Blue Black and rebottled it. If I had to do it over again, I would have skipped the 54th.

If you're looking for something a little more teal than Blue- Black, Aircorp Blue-Black probably fits the bill better. My bottle's from 2009, so hopefully this scan's color is still accurate today.

No, I'm not much for the teal-leaning blue-blacks (although I have some). My original sample of 54th MA was pretty much dark teal blue, but the bottle of it was lighter and bluer -- and not as grey-blue as your batch is showing on my screen. And if Aircorps Blue-Black dries as slowly as you're showing, I don't want it....

SchaumburgSwan's shot of ESSRI, OTOH.... I've hesitated to get it because of the shipping costs to the US; to the point that I had considered getting a Parker Vector from them and combining the shipping -- like I need another Vector like a hole in my head  (okay, it's a Vector so maybe I do ) , and because I'm not sure I'd be able to go through a 100 ml bottle of IG ink in anything like a reasonable time, even if that was the only ink I owned....

I usually only buy a single bottle of each color of ink at a time, and I rarely use a bottle up. So, I've never really tracked batch consistency. It seems to be a problem for Noodler's. My 54th was bought this year and I've only filled a couple of pens with it. So, pretty sure that's what you're going to get if you buy a bottle today.

Combined/free shipping is my bane, too. It's why I've got 11 bottles of ink and one pen on the way from Cult Pens, even though I only wanted a bottle of Christine and one of Philip. I have enough ink to last me a few life times. I've gone full on hoarder!

Currently inked: Diamine China Blue and Rohrer & Klingner Vroni. The pigment inks (the R&K in this case) are amazing, very good behaviour on crappy paper, I'm amazed and happy :)

Hi Ruth,

about the look of ESSRI in the photo I should say that the writing was very fresh...

At that moment the ink looks like Pelikan 4001 Blue-Black.

Now a few days later it got darker...

IMO ESSRI is worth much more than it costs, even shipped to the USA.

Greetings

Jens

Yes, but the question is whether I can use it enough to go through it in a timely manner -- especially when I have a lot of other inks (and a number of them are also IG inks).

IIRC, ESSRI comes in 100 ml bottles. That's a lot of ink. Especially when I have several 50 and 60 ml bottles of IG inks (KWZI, Akkerman, Platinum) already.

Yikes -- I just checked ESSRI's website, and it's *110* ml....

Ruth,

I understand your point...

With Your Akkerman #10 you have a great ink that is looking and behaving similar to ESSRI. :-)

Yours

Jens

Last night, Stipula Fading Grey and Musk Green for the most part, and wrote a few lines with those and Dark Blue, Light Blue and BB L'amant in a mini-comparison when I got bored after lunch.

It's hard work to tell which is Old Harry when everybody's got boots on.

Hello everyone,

Today I am using Vintage Sheaffer Skrip Black loaded in a Waterman 52 1/2:

Today it's been Birmingham Smithfield Street Truss Blue in a Parker Laidtone Duofold buttonfiller with a Sheaffer # 3 nib and feed on it (I dunno, it came that way and I didn't realize about the nib till I got home; I COULD swap it out for a correct Parker nib, but the pen writes well).

I was a little nervous putting something relatively saturated into the pen, but other than it being a bit of a hard starter, so far I haven't had any problems. It's one of the red/Dusty Rose color pens, and that bright intense blue just looks so gosh darn good coming out of it....

Well, I'm hoping to try out Diamine's 150th Carnival at work tonight if I can get all the Stipula Light Blue out of the feed in the JIF I want to use. I keep soaking it in a cup of water and it's almost there.
