I'm glad Rohrer & Klingner added, even if only temporarily, a dark purple that isn't an iron-gall ink. Aubergine is attractive, versatile, well-behaved in the pen and on paper, and not terribly expensive.

Today it's been J Herbin Lavender (scented) in the blue Cross Solo, B nib; and Noodler's Kung Te Cheng in the Poseidon Pearl Konrad, flex nib.

Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

Been a pretty boring day for me, compared to some days (more reading than writing). So i't's just been Iroshizuku Take-sumi, in the Pilot Decimo.

Cacao du Bresil. Been wanting to try it again and bought a 10 ml bottle last time I ordered ink. Loaded it into the Sheaffer Valiant TD that arrived today and so far, so good. Color is the delicate silvery brown I imagined it should be, not the dark, almost-black I got before in the Parker Betas I'd tried it in. Even better, it's actually drying (and pretty quickly, too) with no smearing afterwards.

I might have to take back the mean things I said about Herbin inks though, to be fair, Cacao was less problematic than the other colors I tried. I wouldn't mind it being just a tad darker and the lightness might be due to residual water in the feed from flushing and so might darken a bit in a day or so but I'm ok with it if it doesn't.

It's hard work to tell which is Old Harry when everybody's got boots on.

Sailor Kingdom Note Tanna japonesis (Evening cicada) in the Pelikan M101 Red tortoise (M)

Montblanc Leo Tolstoy Sky Blue in the Edison Beaumont pneumatic (F)

KWZI Brown Pink in the Edison Menlo draw-filler (F)

Sorry about the oversized picture. Didn't mean for it to be that big.

I'd promised Brian Gray of Edison Pen Co. that I would only use "safe" inks in this Beaumont after his second replacement of the sac so my choices from the ink collection are severely limited to the MB, Aurora, Visconti inks.

Montblanc Black

Montblanc Irish Green

Callifolio Bleu Meditérranée, my favourite and it often feels like I'm the only one using it.

I guess I spoke too soon. :(

While there's no show/bleed on BnR, it's pretty bad on the little Sky Notes notebook. I expect the copy paper at work to fare even worse.

Diamine Indigo.

It behaves extremely well in my Cleo Skribent Classic with F nib, and I adore that understated, subdued colour. It's as if Diamine wanted to create something that resembles Rohrer und Klingner's Salix (which I also use a lot, esp. in pens that tend to be a bit gushy), but then non-iron-gall.

In current use: Cleo Skribent Classic, Waterman Expert, Diplomat Excellence, Pineider Avatar, Sheaffer Targa (the good old Sheaffer, not one Made in China)

I'm pleased to report I have to take that back. I *did* take the Cacao to work last night and it performed pretty well on the copy paper - really no show or bleed to speak of. Checking the Sky Notes memo book when I got home, I see that other inks that don't normally show/bleed on it did do so on some pages so the paper appears to vary in quality.

Definitely something for me to keep in mind. I keep Sky Notes and little BnR books on my desk to test inks and take notes. I added the Sky because they're cheaper and closer to the quality I encounter in the real world (and so give a better idea of how an ink will look 'out there') than the BnR.

That said, while Cacao is certainly a nice color and I'm glad I tried it again, I probably won't use it past this one fill.

R&K Alt Golgrun in my brand new, just arrived this morning, first ever Pelikan M400. I received the matching D400 White tortoise pencil last week. These are so much prettier in person. I'm in love!
