Which Inks Are You Using Today?

Today it is Sailor Takelen Tetsukon "Iron Blue" in the Edison Collier 2020 LE in "Metallurgy".

I'm not precisely sure of the name of the Japanese vendor but it's in an unlabeled vase bottle, with the cap having some Japanese characters. It is definitely not the Nakabayashi ink of the same name, but the color is very similar; a deep rich dark blue. The actual ink is bluer than what I captured in the image. It can have a bit of shading, but it's the solid rich color that I like. And I've always loved blue-blacks. A "real" ink. A "serious" ink. One's notes and scribbles seem so much more profound when written in blue-black ink. ymmv. :)

Today it's been diluted Robert Oster Carbon Fire, in the Vibrant Pink al-Star, 1.1 mm stub nib; and vintage Quink Microfilm Black, in the Silver Pearl Vac Major, F nib.

Thanks on the pen. It's a fine one, and will become a regular EDC.

There was a time when Sailor wasn't putting custom labels (or any labels) on the vase bottles or even the boxes. I think this was to reduce their "collectible" character. Sailor said at the time these products were for the local market. But I think the real reason was the Ink Master was being overworked making endless micro batches of "Cigar", "Hakodate Twilight", and so many other inks that were selling so much. Now I'm sure he has a more sedate life.

Thanks for posting photos of the bottle, so that I could visually match the label.

Today it's been Akkermann Laan van Nieuw Oost-Indigo, in the M600 Violet and White; and later it will be KWZI Standard Turquoise, as the inaugural ink in the new pen I got last week: A Pilot Metropolitan Retro Pop -- grey, Herringbone trim -- with a stub/calligraphy nib. I've been wanting one of these for a long time now, and had also wanted to see whether I liked the stub nib (my other Metropolitan is an M -- when I got that, I also tested an F and found the F to be scratchy).

Today is Sailor day:

For me, every day is Sailor day. The pen I always have inked is a Sailor 1911S with Sailor Kobe #9 Suma Purple.

I am also using Birmingham Waterfront Dusk, in a Kaweco Sport with a fine nib that writes like a broad nib with this ink.

I've been using Diamine Winter Miracle. It is delightfully obnoxious. It is a nearly black purple with blue sheen. The blue is really visible in person.

Harrumph! Just your description resulted in ordering a sample...along with a sample of Diamine 1864 Blue Black. :D obnoxious is a challenge.

Noodler's Texas Navy - Parker 51 Special

Sheaffer Skrip Black - Parker 51 Demi

Both inks are new to me. In my APICA journal, the Texas Navy is almost a perfect match for Namiki Blue, which I have in another pen. It feathers a bit in my 1917 Bullet Journal, though, so I will probably keep it for long-form journaling.

The current new fill is Sailor Kingdom Note Birgus latro (a dark brown) from the Crustaceans series in a Pelikan M400 Brown tortoise.

Still working through the Hakodate twilight ink in the new Edison.

Birmingham Waterfront Dusk in my Kaweco Sport F

I keep meaning to try the bottle I have of Waterfont Dusk and keep getting sidetracked.... And I bought it when they still had the B&M store in Pittsburgh....

Yes, @amberleadavis really knows how to 'sell' an ink! I now have it in my shopping cart, and would have already pulled the trigger if I didn't get waylaid (looking at an answer to where PenBBS ink can be bought) and end up spending A$100 on PenBBS inks, including a blue-purple-black shimmer ink that looks like a demented version of Diamine Winter Miracle, I suppose.

I might yet order the latter yet, since I need to pad a half-finished order for a Pelikan M200 Moonstone pen anyway.

  • Akkerman #10 IJzer-Galnoten
  • Diamine Registrars

Allegedly, both made by Diamine; but sufficiently different in character to be enjoyed in tandem.

Vintage. Cursive italic. Iron gall.
