Contest! Fp "inspiration"

I know the "contest" is over (and I must say it was the most fun I've had with my pens in ages! :P ) But, since yesterday was Fountain Pen Day, I thought I'd wrap things up with a little video... and a great big "Thank you!" to pb2 and all the others who were responsible for this wonderful October event. Cheers!

I love it! Thanks for sharing! :clap1:

Enormous thanks to every participant thumbup.gif

Big THANK YOUS to all the judges thumbup.gif

Much gratitude to the Prize donors. thumbup.gif

Viewers/ commenters ~ Thank you very much!

I will re-list the prizes tomorrow since we get an extra hour in the day!!! (there is one that the donor prefers to give to the entry of their choice; an allowance I made up front ~ it's the 2 pens with the paper). If someone out there with a lovely "C" Brain wants to beat me to the punch and list the prizes tonight in one lovely post, I would be most thrilled!

1st place gets first pick and so-on down the line ... I think I will name more winners than we have prizes for, but hey, I make up the rules rolleyes.gif ... and I wanted to include the top 7 happyberet.gif

Really though dear ones all, YOU ARE SOME OF THE BEST PEEPS ON THE PLANET!

Much love is here ~

The judging was tough, close (in one case there was a 1 point difference!) and my job was made easier because I did not of the judging, just the math....

Cue Music ...

Congratulations to Rvisser on a job so well done. And many, many thanks to the judges/donors for coming up with such a wonderfully inspired project. I have enjoyed working with fountain pens for several years, but it wasn't until I joined FPN a few months ago that I even dreamed there was such a delightful community as this. (Thanks to camaraderie at FPN, we're all winners. ) Cheers!

To All "Inspiration Contest" Participants:

Thank you all for your kind comments and regard for my work: I was surprised at how gratifying and enjoyable this contest was. You have probably noticed that I have been silent until now. I remained silent because I felt the work should speak for itself – without explanation or apology.

But I want to tell you now that this little venture has been a special delight to me because it brought together so many of my interests and concerns – calligraphy, drawing, composition, color harmony, journal writing, poetry, and the height and depth of human experience – all together in one simple concept, with the added joy of being able to share these interests and concerns with all of you -- sincere and heartfelt people who are on a similar wave-length.

I can only say that your participation -- czanquine, inky_artist, inkstained ruth, nightwing, invested, amberleadavis, Robinkeys, glinn, picautomaton, dcpritch, smk, palansil, Daisy, mag, whitedot, plistumi, Andrew H -- has brought much tenderness to my heart. As I think of each one of you at your work, the sounds of your pens singing on paper, creating these works that you presented in all humility and trepidation – in your spare room or kitchen, or studio, or coffee shop – finding what was inspiring to you, and what resonated with your heart, I think that there could have been worse things to hold our attention for this past month, much worse.

Many of you apologized for various aspects of your work. You needn't apologize or explain. But, if your heart tells you that you do want to improve some aspect of your life, you probably should do so. A calligraphy course costs little more than a good pen and will serve you, like the good pen, for the rest of your life, bringing you a deep sense of satisfaction and human dignity – and bringing honor to the pen, to the ink, and to your world.

If you want to learn to draw, do it! If you think it's not possible, you are mistaken.

Study color: no schooling necessary, just open your eyes and examine colors with great care and even greater love. Begin to see the subtle nuances of your experience: this activity alone will spill-over into your entire life, and will enrich even your darkest moments.

Lastly, treat your pen as a samurai would treat his sword. It should rise to a sacred status in your experience. Care for it as you would care for your very eyesight.

With warmest regards to each one of you,

rvisser

Wow. Wow. This is TOO cool. I got the reward of doing it, and then the reward of appreciation on top of it, not to mention the reward of moving forward emotionally just a little (not least because my mother would have LOVED this, being remembered publicly, plus that I did a quote she chose) -- and now y'all are gonna throw a PRIZE on that?

Wow. Just... wow. Thank you. :D

I think that there could have been worse things to hold our attention for this past month, much worse.

I too thought this was kind of an oasis in the last month, and especially in the last few days. I loved seeing what everyone else did as the days went along!

Many congratulations and thanks to all -- and especially to PB who thunk it all up :D --

OK, it turns out that choosing is the hardest part of this event! But I don't have a vintage flex pen of any kind in my meager collection so I'm going to go with the NOS vintage Eversharp and extend a huge "thank you!" to both Pendleton and my mystery benefactor for bringing Christmas early this year. :cloud9:

Now I'll sit back and see what Santa brings everyone else.

While we wait, may I ask a question?

Please forgive my ignorance, but what's a "1958 Ultra N (NOS) Italian made very minty piston filler"? I mean, I'm embarrassed to say but I literally have no idea!

Can anyone enlighten? :D

Many thanks to Chi-Town Mike for the prize!

P.S. Please note that I am only asking a question and NOT stating a preference. Please forgive if you find my question to be in poor taste; that surely is not my intent! Thank you :))

Oh wow, I'm amazed and honoured to be amongst the winners! I'm very sure it was a tough one for the judges.

rvisser, I enjoyed reading your post. Especially this quote: "Lastly, treat your pen as a samurai would treat his sword." Congratulations on winning first place! :clap1:

I'm browsing through this with a mobile device on a highly unstable connection on campus so I can't type much or for a long time but this contest is just anazing, and everyone's entries equally such. Congratulations to us all for having done such a great job! I agree wholeheartedly with a previous poster; it is the camaraderie on FPN which makes us all winners. I have never been so blessed in my life to be part of such a kind and caring community as FPN is. My love of fountain pens and the art of writing per se is something I will carry me throughout life, and past the challenges the world may throw at me as I carry on.

Beyond the prizes in this competition lies the fruit of our sweet labor; among which would be the conquering of inner demons as I know many of us have accomplished by way of this endeavor. :)

Congratulations especially to rvisser who took home the top prize and truly deserves it! :) same goes to inky_artist, second placer, who opened my eyes to fountain pen art beyond the horizon of my current perception. To everyone else, you all deserve a round of hearty applause!

Thank you so much to Pendleton for having brought to life an opportunity I could only have dreamed of before.

Here comes the difficult part. Choosing prizes. Being named fifth place is such a great honor, and the fact that we get to choose prizes all the more! I've always wanted a TWSBI and a flex pen at that, so the TWSBI with the Pendleton point seems to call out to me; however, in recognition of the rules I will leave it to the people before me to choose first :) I am simply stating my preference, but should the first, second, third and fourth place winners want the TWSBI as I do I will not hesitate to pick another prize. Will keep watch.
