How Do You Display Your Inks?

Yep, you are up in Reno right? You should be able to find something.

Oh yea, but the locals seem to think simple cabinets are worth a fortune! I'll likely troll yard sales until I find a wall cabinet that needs some TLC...

Inky TLC..

...I've been wanting a nice display cabinet for things like my teapots / teas... Now that I'll have pens and inks, I need one even more. No idea where to put it, though. I need some space of my own in this house!

Today, I set up the two cabinets. Now, I have room for more ink.

Love your cabinets Amber! I'm about to get serious about fixing my ink display -- either more built-in shelves that are less deep or some sort of display cabinet(s). One thing I keep mulling is sorting by color vs. sorting by brand. I think visually it looks better to have similar bottles grouped together, but it's so practical having color families grouped together -- I fill pens for my mom, my wife, and my daughters and they all request ink by color -- it's nice to be able to say "Here are our 7 purples..."

Do you find it hard to keep track of all your inks when they are displayed by brand? - I know you said you use it for tracking robosigners but I bet you probably keep your ink collection cataloged in a SQL database :)

Just seen this thread and thought 'Yes, how do I display may inks?'

Truthfully...

err

There is a patch of wall with some Quink black that sprayed out of an Onoto when I pushed the plunger down. What didn't go over my face, hit the wall.

My fingers always show the current inks in my pens.

Whatever I've written on & not put away displays some of the rest of my inks. As for the bottles, they are safe in a drawer, safe against cats.

Regards,

Richard.

I keep my inks in a drawer.

I love the smell of fountain pen ink in the morning.

I try to display mine nicely on good writing paper :)

I store them in a large square case .. which originally held a set of nice cooking pans and which is large enough to hold all my writing stuff,

other than the pens, which are in a nice rosewood cabinet, shipped all the way to Spain from Ron Zorn's.

If you make people think they're thinking, they'll love you; But if you really make them think, they'll hate you.

Thank you. No, I have spreadsheet of the fade experiment inks. Alas, I just wander by and look at the inks before choosing.

Except for the inks that are like this....

Then, it's I walk by the stain of BSB, and think, oh, I haven't used the evoL (Love spelled backwards) ink in a while.

I keep my inks safely out of view and away from the play areas (the whole house is her play area) of my cat. Since she is very curious and she loves to rub her face on corners of boxes, small and large, I must make sure that all inks are securely positioned and out of view of my curious little furry girl. ; )

I picked this up yesterday for $50. Not just for pens and ink since I don't have much (new to fountain pens, but having fun!), but some other random stuff, too. Like my Lake Superior Agate and whatnot. It will have a dedicated ink and pen locations!

Please ignore the step tansu. Just took the pictures there before putting the (cupboard? cabinet? jewelry box?) in place.

I don't have any fancy method, just a row across my desk hiding computer cables.

My ink is displayed on paper, briefly: I tend to close the covers of my notebooks when I'm done writing, and most of them go back in the drawer shortly thereafter.

The bottles in their boxes are secreted in drawers out of sight, out of light, and out of danger.

Tajin, what a great idea to use a jewelry cabinet! I love it.

If you think it's none of my business, that's fine, it's just that every time you post a new picture, the book on SQL jumps out at me. All of the other books seem to fit the profile of a lawyer who likes reading for pleasure. But that SQL book...are lawyers retrieving old cases now using SQL? Or, maybe your pen collection has grown huge enough that it needs it's own database? biggrin.gif

Sorry if I never answered this....

My first job out of law school was in doing fee reviews for Chapter 11 bankruptcy cases. I compared how much time attorneys were billing and how much was reasonable. I did it in SQL.

I had to go find this in the thread....

I color when I'm on the phone with banks. Keeps me from saying mean things.

OK, I've re-organized my ink and shelves -- I used to have all my ink crammed on one shelf, but this thread inspired me to dedicate one section of a wall to pens etc:
