How Do You Display Your Inks?

I love the glass fronted book case. When my collection of ink grows a bit more I may have to displace some books and put my ink on display. For now it is contained in my 19th century Japanese clerk's/storekeeper's box that seems like it was made for the job. It is portable and goes well with the rest of the Japanese art in my office. I am quickly running out of room in it however and must either stop buying ink or find another container. Here are a few pics:

Very nice way to display your collection!

Thank you! It had been one of the windows in my old house. When previous owners (2 owners ago) added on another small room, they left the window. LOL As it was, it was useless, so I decided to transform it into my ink display. I've nearly run out of room, though, so I'm seriously considering transforming another window.

I like your idea, too. It looks neat, and you didn't have to give up any space.

My advice...of your two options, stop buying ink!! That chest is way too cool to give up :roflmho:

Thanks. The chest is here to stay. If I end up finding more inks that I just can not live without I will have to find something else interesting to contain the overflow...

Thanks - I am glad you like it. It even has ink stains from decades past where someone used to keep their ink stones for safe keeping. It's great to be able to use something 120+ years old for almost the same purpose as it was intended at the time.

My friend enjoyed building my wooden ink rack so much that she wanted to make herself one. We had originally thought of a shorter rack using the flooring she had left since her collection isn't too big, but decided instead to make a new design that's shorter than mine but with two tiers. Results of my drafting...

I think she's going to make it this weekend. I'll ask her to share photos.

Like the ink collection - and the Anne Mcaffrey books, I have many also.

I had the pleasure of hanging out with Anne, her son Todd, Robert Bloch (Psycho) and Chelsea Quinn Yarbro - they came out to Las Vegas for a book convention. I can tell you about cats and manuscript surfing. :)

Anyway, thanks for noticing.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

I'm pretty new to FP's overall and although I wouldn't be surprised to find myself in your shoes one day I must ask; What do you all do with so many types and colors of ink? I have Waterman black and blue cartridges for one pen and Noodler's Black an Diamine Sherwood Green for my Sheaffer Imperial.

@alnwpi

What do I do with the ink....

Well, I torture it .... see the Fade Experiments

I doodle with it ...

Sometimes, I paint with it ... (this is my desk blotter. I doodled and then did a wash).

Oh, and sometimes, I write letters with it....

This is a special letter I sent to brother who is overseas. I'm sure he doesn't read the letters anyway, but this way, they look good.

So, I decided to display my cool bottle so ink. How about you?

And here is a larger picture.

This ink cabinet is the gold standard, very beautiful. For now I keep most of my inks in an old cigar box, which is conveniently tall enough to fit my tall Noodler's Ink bottles and still close. My cigar ink box stays in my work desk for easy access and daily fill-ups.

This is how I display mine:

Only two or three colors are repeats (2 bottles of each). The rest are unique colors.

Nice! I especially like the guardian of the ink cabinet.

Me too. Kinda looks like one of mine.

Oh, and the cabinet is nice too.

Since the stash outgrew the purple casket, I've been using the oversized (but still somewhat nice looking) cardboard box it came in. It fits on the end of the hutch that is supposed to go with my dresser, but is currently being used as a bookshelf in the hallway because it's narrow enough to not interfere with going in or out of the bedroom.

The box is still plenty big enough for plenty more bottles, but I still have to have the vial sample holders on the other end of the hutch top, because they're too long to fit in the box (just as they were too long to fit in the casket itself). Which is too bad, because the box is tall enough that two trays could stack. And the box lid would protect the vials from light better.

(I know, I know -- pix or it didn't happen....)

  • 4 weeks later...

Spurred on by the nice displays posted here, and the sad state of affairs in my own ink display world (including the inability to find any specific ink easily!), I spent some time organizing my inks over the Holidays. This involved the kind cooperations of Mrs. WOBentley, who allowed me to keep my inks on the Dining room table while I organized them!

Here they are finally organized on the Table:

http://i952.photobucket.com/albums/ae8/Catriker/Pen%20Pics/12_26_12038_zps19248181.jpg

Of course though she is incredibly patient with me...they couldn't stay there (though I could find what I was looking for much more easily!) So here they are in their new home, a tight fit, but all tucked in!

And all was well with the world... :cloud9:

Until the mailman arrived

I guess I just need another shelf...

Though I feel rather unworthy after viewing the cool pictures in this thread, I can at least post pictures of my big ole desk with a buncha ink. Amberla, you may see an Akkerman bottle in the back that came from a nice woman who is well known around here.
