How Do You Display Your Inks?

As a relatively new fountain pen user I really don't have a collection and here are the inks I'm using. All of them are on my desk. I want to learn them well before buying more. Hard to resist though.

Retired, twice. Time to do more things, writing being one.

PLEASE, tell me that fancy bottle, in the bottom row, to the left of the stacked Visconti bottles is "just for show," & NOT ink? I would hate to read the lines written with an ink that light.........

Hey, did you see the ear bottle?

The heart bottle is a special from the restaurant we at ate during the last LA Pen show. It's olive oil, but it looks pretty.

Do your friends not switch one or two over when they come to visit . . . ?

No, usually they are too busy drooling.

Nice :)

Thank you. My collection is not the most impressive in Las Vegas, but it is the best displayed.

This is disturbingly tidy .

Uh, I wish they were all that neat and tidy.

It's like a school photo and the two Caran d'Ache bottles are trying to mess it up by getting everyone else to lean over too...

That explains a lot about the new CdAs.

That is gorgeous. It looks like a display in a shop.

My collection is much less impressive. I only own five bottles of ink and they're pushed to the corner of my desk under a shelf by the wall to avoid the cat knocking them over and busting them.

Your collection will get there!

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Oh, but I don't want to get there. I would be too overwhelmed with so many ink choices and the majority of them would sit unused for many months. I am very satisfied with my tiny collection, though unfortunately I have been eyeing a delicious looking ink called Gummiberry. Aha, now that I think about it, willing or not, my collection will probably one day come to resemble yours.

A question: If you store a large volume of ink bottles, do you arrange by brand or color? How do you keep track of what you have?

I mostly sort by brand - here was the book case before I finished the top shelf. I do that because it's hard to sort by color - is Turquoise Blue or is it Green? Where do you put blue black? Also, the shelves look really messy or cluttered when you have different bottles.

Not displayed, stuck away in a couple of kitchen cabinets.

  • 3 weeks later...

Amberlea has inspired me (yet again!). Yesterday, I felt the strong urge to reorganize what was a collection getting out of hand.

Stackable containers with drawers has been my salvation. Now that everything is in a new place, I made cards to help me remember what's in where. Senility is not fun... ;)

On top of the desk, four small containers, and a mirrored tray (from Pottery Barn). The tray is nice for displaying the L'Artisan Pastellier inks, since they look nice in a circle.

Next to the desk, on the floor, the large containers with a red painted tray (from Crate and Barrel) on top:

And for the prurient-minded, a look inside a couple of the drawers:

Wow, this thread is so inspiring! These displays are so gorgeous!

I'm a newbie, so I only have 5 different inks. Right now they are all sitting on my desk in their boxes. I am planning on reorganizing and deep cleaning in the next month or two, so maybe they will find a nice new home.

If you're anything like me, you'll find your collection growing without your even realizing it! And organizing can be fun. [Hearty greetings from a proud descendant of numerous Canadians (Waterloo and Hamilton, Ontario; Lunnenburg, NS)

I know... I have yet to try RO inks! But they are quite expensive in Europe so I think I'll wait till there's some really special colours.

Very nice picture and I would say you've got a head start on a nice collection. If your desk catches any natural light (sunlight) may I suggest you storing your ink in a drawer or somewhere safe?

Gorgeous! I really need to do something about my ink situation. It has ballooned to something like 45 bottles, and they're all stored in 2 cardboard banker's boxes. Part of the reason is that I want to protect them from light, but mostly I'm just lazy.

+1 I don't display my inks.
