Congrats again KY_BOB; nice vintage pen. When you get ink, please post a writing sample as i am curious about the softness of the nib. I found that the vintage monotone 144 fine nib to show a tad bit of line variation.

Thanks, I have ink on order. Of course, when you call the local office supply store here and ask about Montblanc fountain pen cartridges, you can almost hear the blank stare over the phone before they ask "mont...what". I ordered it from the internet, so it will be a few days.

I don't think even a MB can help my hand writing put I'll try to get a photo and give my impression of it.

I had awful handwriting, but having such nice fountain pens has inspired me to write better; i've notice a marked improvement in my handwriting since i started writing with a fountain pen (but i've been practising)

I ordered a 8-pack of Royal blue cartridges.

I don't think you need Montblanc cartridges - the international standard cartridges work just as well and are usually cheaper (and available!).

I have two cartridge-only MBs that I've used with generic cartridges for years with no ill effect whatsoever... And the people at the Montblanc boutique where I bought my last one explicitly told me those cartridges were OK to use in their pens.

So maybe then you won't have to wait until the cartridges you ordered arrive...

Another tidbit that I didn't know. Well, I have already placed the order. I didn't think that $9 for 8 Montblanc cartridges was bad.

Wow! you guys are great. I was ready to send it back for a refund. If I'm not too mistaken, $160 to my door (no box) should be a decent buy. I plan on using it, so I don't need a pen that is 100%.

The seller has a 99% feedback on Ebay and he seems to deal in a lot of pens. I'm starting to think that this is the real deal and at a fair price.

Hi best thing is to

1)examine closely to Trim and cap by magnifying Glass

2)take it to any Old Pen shop as it is very difficlt judgeing on writting as even fake has original Nibs and it writes very good,

3) best thing is to return as your own satisfaction matters a lot, it may be refurbised pen with some part original

Well, here is the good news and the bad news. The pen writes beautifully, way better than any other pen that I own. There is no skipping and the lines are crisp and uniform.

The bad news is that my home computer is down and I can post pics of the writing from work.

Thanks to all of you for the advise. Too think, I almost sent back what is now my favorite pen...

OK, got the home computer fixed. Sorry again for the poor quality photos but these should show that it writes and has smooth lines.

$9 for 8 cartridges is a huge amount of dollar. You can have Waterman or Pelikan cartridges for less than a third of that price.

Also, check if you can put another cartridge in the body (pluging one in the nipple, then placing another one in the opposite direction inside the barrel). This way you'll see if you can put long cartridges inside your pen, which is more practical.

When in doubt, send it back, unless you paid counterfeit prices for it and can live with it while knowing that. Sometimes counterfeit stuff can have a certain allure-- mostly in feeling disposable; as truly, when would most of us not feel horrible if we lost a genuine Mont Blanc?

Besides, what else would you expect an E-bay seller to say: "yeah, hey wow, maybe IT IS counterfeit, huh?" Listen, I'm not being unsympathetic, it's just that E-bay can be wrought with peril for pen lovers like us.

As far as I know, Montblanc doesn't make Meisterstucks with a converter; they're piston fillers.

Anyone, correct me if I'm wrong.

Oh yes, there are authentic Montblanc converter pens, in particular the 144 (I have one for two decades now), the converter is branded MONTBLANC GERMANY (in capitals, three words above each other: MONT BLANC GERMANY). Some other models beside the 144 are available as converter or cartridge version, too. Actually, the converter models are made for conveneience, as the user can use cartridges or fill the pen with the converter from an inkwell at his discretion. So I know the Chopin model (owned by my wife) and another red model of which I do not know the type now, owned by myself. So we have at least three Montblanc converter pens.
