I tried a sample a couple years ago, my sample doesn't look anything like the review. My sample was a much paler washed out blue, the review looks more like Bad Belted Kingfisher. BBH is much more water resistant to BBK though. I also noticed that my sample of Noodler's Navy doesn't look like the reivew - mine had much more green in it.

BBH also smells bad - it has a nasty chemical smell.

I agree with this. I recently tried a sample of BBK and BBH and thought that the BBH was far different than the sample in the review. The sample of BBH I had was pretty washed out when I tried it (though admittedly I didn't use large nibs) and dried to an almost "chalky" color. I didn't care for it at all, and I ended up going with a bottle of BBK.

In the water tests I ran, I found found the BBH to be more resistant than the BBK, but I also found the BBK to be plenty resistant (especially compared to many other inks).

Overall, I know a lot of people really like BBH - it just wasn't for me. In my testing, had it looked like the review sample above, I would have probably gone with it.

This is one of my favorite everyday inks. Was always in my Safari. However my bottle of BBH had a bit if an accident and I am currently using Noodler's coral sea in its stead. Coral sea is more green but it is growing on me. However I will be getting a bottle of BBH in the future.

I've been using this ink in my Noodler's Ahab (haven't tried any other inks in that pen yet) and I have to say that it behaves extremely well.

However, I'm not usually too bothered by chemical smells but this does smell pretty terrible.

Am I missing something here? Those photo bucket icons don't seem to want to open -- is there a trick? or do I have to go to your blog to see your reviews?

I certainly wouldn't describe the smell as "chemical" nor particularly bad, though it is strong if you put your nose to the bottle. It reminded me of the water-based paints they would mix up for kids to paint with.

I know my id is "mhosea", but you can call me Mike. It's an old Unix thing.

The original post is pretty old. The hotlinks to the image probably aren't valid anymore.

I wrote MHPhoto about it but I haven't heard back. I think he still has the images I think photobucket is holding them hostage.

I like the looks of this ink. I have tried other dark blue or blue black inks from Noodler's and while I love 54th Massachusetts, despite that it's supposed to be blue black, there is a green tone to it as well. Did you notice any green in Bad Blue Heron? Thanks.
