Rohrer & Klingner Salix And Scabiosa

I recently reviewed Rohrer & Klingner Salix and Scabiosa, two German made iron gall inks. I purchased the Salix to tame my super-wet Pelikan 140, and ordered a sample of the Scabiosa just to compare it.

The Scabiosa is not quite as dry as the Salix, but other than that, the two inks are very similarly behaved. Here are some side by side comparisons, starting with swabs on some inkjet paper:

Next up we have two paragraphs written on the same page of a Moleskine pocket notebook:

Note that both are reasonably well behaved in the Moleskine (which few inks are), but that the Scabiosa did bleed through a little bit, whereas the Salix did not.

Finally, here are two side-by-side samples from my original reviews, on HP LaserJet 24lb paper:

Great comparative review of two inks that are favourites of mine.

I haven't tried Scabiosa (not enamored of the color) but I like Salix a whole lot. Thanks for the side-by-side.

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."
