Hi FPN,

Today I receive my Pilot Vanishing Point (Capless) 2012 Le: Black Marble.

I took some pictures and decide to share with fellow FPN.

Special thanks to Alex at Goulet Pen Company for great service and great product.

This is my first post in this forum, so bear with me.

Here's the outer white box. Exactly the same from previous years VP Le

Same design faux leather box from previous years but different material.

Personally I like the texture of ice green Le (2010) and pink Le (2011) better.

This 2012 Le box looks a little bit too shiny

Here some closer look of the texture.

Here some more picture of the inside box

The pen

The pen looks very similar to Sesenta brown.

Sesenta have more hint of brown while VP have more hint of black

Here's compare to Tombow smoke gray and sesenta

Excellent collection! It must have taken much time and determination (not to say money) to put together. Some of these colors can hardly be had at any price nowadays.

The pictures of the VP Charcoal Marble suggested to me the Sesenta Brown as well. I like seeing them side by side here. I do like the marble finish and I much prefer the VP pen size to the too slender decimo size. Your post has pushed me over the edge to buy this one...something about having a unique indelible number gets me too.

@Doug: Thank you for your post

@Kristiina: I start collecting VP about 3 years ago. I use some of my VP for teaching. It's really nice to be able to write immediately without using both hands to remove the cap of the pen.

This is the first time i bought a pen from gouletpens.com. If you do want to buy this VP, I highly suggest you to check their website. They also giving a discount for FPN member. Just type "FPN" without the quote and you'll get 5% disc. I'm not working for them, I just extremely happy with their service. :)

Anthony -

Yes - that was exactly my thinking too, about the source! It's been sitting in my cart all week in fact as I try to determine what else I might need/want. The pen with the discount AND choice of nib size is just too much of a good thing. I've been wanting to try the Pilot XF nib and now it's time. My one issue with the past Pilot VP Limited Editions is that I end up with a medium nib I won't use. I swap in custom nibs I buy separately. I could get the the medium nibs customized I suppose but logistically it never seems to work out.

You mentioned you might post more pictures later. If you're taking requests I would like to see more close up comparisons with the sesenta - for fun. I don't care to write with my sesenta much but the finish is something special. I can do the comparison in person eventually but I like to anticipate...

That's a pretty nice collection. Thanks for sharing.

I've also ordered one of these and it's now making the arduous international journey to my itchy hands. It's going to be my first VP and I'm really hoping I'll like it as much as I think I will. I'd been thinking about getting the matte black VP for a while now, but the more I looked at it the less I liked the way it looked. However, when I saw this new LE I thought it looked great. So, one kind of quick decision later, here I am waiting. Can't wait to see if I like it as much as I have my other Pilot pens.

@Kristiina: Here you go

@wyldphyre: The only problem with VP that I can think of is the clip. If you like to twist and turn your pen while writing, the clip probably will bothering you. I never have problem with the clip and I think you will enjoy VP too. Some people said that the nib of VP is comparable with $1000+ pen. I never own $1000+ pen, but I like VP a lot. It gives me some character of my writing.

Yeah, I'm aware that the clip bothers some but I don't think it will irritate me. I'm usually fine having a gap between my fingers when I write.

I too have one on order and reading this lovely review has my ink-juices flowing.

The Black Marble LE is a much nicer looking pen than the Matt Black IMHO....of course YMMV.

Great photo's by the way on this thread and the linked thread.

Thank you for sharing them with us, and for taking the time to show the pens 'in their best light'

What a beautiful collection of VPs. :puddle:

I have only one but I dearly love it. Mine is the colour of the 4th one in, in your image of Vanishing Point Rainbow.

Hi myn

Thank you for your comment.

That is my first Vanishing Point too. To the left is japan only "Mustard Yellow/Deep Yellow" and to the right is my favorite Mandarin Yellow Le.

Hi colrehogan,

Congratulation!!

I have M, F, and XF nib, but I never try B nib. How is it compare to M nib?

Well mine just turned up in the mail today while I was at work. I had to wait till I got home to ink it because I wanted to use some of a Kon-peki sample I had.

I looks great, and i don't find the pen awkward to hold, which is the one thing I was a little concerned about. The only thing that I think could be better at the moment is the nib, and I'm guessing a little time to break it in and get used to it will help with that. I ordered a fine because I like the F nibs on the other Pilot pens I have, and I figured that, if anything, the gold nib would write a slightly wider line, but this VP turns out to write a line that is just slightly thinner than both my Prera and Lucina, and feels scratchier than both.

I guess some more time writing with the pen (I've barely had a chance to use it) and some smoothing if absolutely necessary should sort things out. Who knows, maybe I'll have to venture into M nib territory one of these days :hmm1:

So I can't say my first VP experience was perfect, but it's pretty good and I'm sure it will get better. I definitely don't regret the decision to buy one.

Semi on the topic question: is this the only pen that inspires this kind of fanatical loyal collecting?

They must have done something right, I look forward to picking out my first VP. I also look forward to getting my second.

@Siv: You are my hero!!!

I remember looking at the picture that you took a few years ago and said to my spouse "I'm gonna have those all."

You are also the one that made me register to FPN and enjoy this great site.

I saw you sold almost all your VP a couple years back, but I can only :puddle:

Anyway .. I'm still searching for green kasuri and of course the fable turquoise. Did you ever find the turquoise one? I know you have green kasuri and I'm wondering where did you get those and is that possible to get it at this moment.

Thanks siv, you are really are my hero!
