Diamine Sargasso Sea

I just put this Saragasso sea in a Platinum fine point, and whenever I would leave it for a time, the pen would have start up troubles. Hard to wash out too. Then filled the pen with Namiki Blue and never had a start up issue with the pen.

I'm working through a sample of this ink now, and I have to agree that the sheen is prevalent. In my wet-writing pens it has about the same base color as J. Herbin 1670 Bleu Ocean which has no sheen. Sargasso Sea is perhaps ever so slightly darker, and the gold sheen changes things a bit. I just took the paper outside to examine it under magnification in sunlight, and the sheen of Sargasso Sea was prevalent when looking dead on. I find this particular gold sheen to be rather aesthetically pleasing compared to the green-brown of J. Herbin 1670 Rouge Hematite or the pink of Sailor Sei Boku. I'm not a big sheen fan in general, but I like this one. The only thing is that I found it to be somewhat hard starting in my normal (not wet, not dry) pens that I've tried it in.

I know my id is "mhosea", but you can call me Mike. It's an old Unix thing.

Thanks again but I'm not sure I'll spend so much time waiting for a good lighting, whipping out my camera, and tilting my head and neck.

It's definitely a paper thing. Try some Tomoe River or onion skin. The less absorbent the paper, the more the ink dries on the surface of the paper and creates sheen. Plus, once you get the "sheeny eye" it's freakin' everywhere. I gotta find a new red cuz my Diamine Wild Strawberry sheens like crazy and I wanted red, not green. ;)

I finally saw the sheen last Sunday! Once you capture it, the sheen is everywhere! Amazing :yikes:

My Sailor Pro Gear is currently inked with it, and I believe it's gonna be loaded with the same ink for a very long time.

I tried the ink in Parker Sonnet first, but at some point, the pen started skipping, and then not working at all. I'm not sure if it was owing to the ink or the nib, because I happened to drop the pen once while it was still inked with Sargasso Sea. After that incident I rinsed it and loaded the Sonnet with Herbin's Perle Noir. The pen now works as normal. Well, occasional skipping when you write so fast, but nevertheless back to its normal self.

It sheens every time when I write with my 1cm Plakat nib :-D Wider and wetter is better.

I am no longer very active on FPN but feel free to message me. Or send me a postal letter!

I love the sheen on this ink!

Is it more of a red sheen like Diamine Majestic blue or golden as shown in the photos on this thread?
