Too many "cartridge pens" inked.

post-82935-0-51558500-1345923885.jpg

I'm sensing a Schaeffer theme. And you can refill cartridges....

I have far more Sheaffer pens than any other brand. Probably even if I don't count all the Sheaffer Cartridge Pens (ie what people frequently call "school" or "student" pens). I, like a few others I've virtually met here, have a soft spot for them. One was my first FP; actually my first three or four pens were (newer than any I'm currently using) Sheaffer Cartridge Pens.

The pens with Noodler's Black, Diamine Washable Blue, and vintage Sheaffer (Permanent) Red are refills.

I see you have some vintage Sheaffer Peacock Blue! My dad told me it was his favorite ink back in the day, but it is one of the vintage Sheaffer inks I haven't managed to obtain yet. I have at least 6 of the 11.

The modern eye dropper Recife Crystal, which finally writes well since I paid for a professional nib/flow adjustment, is now my favorite pen. It is not from a manufacturer that is mentioned much here, as they are pretty low volume I think and not common in the US, but I love this pen. They don't make this model currently, but I think they make one almost exactly like it with a different model name.

Thanks to everyone for sharing their inked pens; I like seeing all the unusual or uncommon (to me at least) models in particular, and what mix of inks people like to use.

That Edelson is exquisite! What is the small black item on the right?

Big difference in price on those pens. A while ago, I pulled apart my Plumixes to clean the nibs. Wow were they dirty. Has yours "broken" in yet?

Not as much as you'd think.

The Plumix was less than $8 at Target. Mine work fine with Con 20 converters.

The Rajan was $50.00 if I remember correctly and the Knox nib was about $7.

The ringtop was $70 since it's an advertising pen without the manufacturer on the barrel but the nib is marked EHCO for Eggens Hambler Co.

You are a thrifty shopper. :) Are you glad you bought the Knox nib?

I agree about the Sheaffer's probably because as a student I could afford them and still have them. I've even become a fan of refilling my cartridges.

Tell me more about Recife. The pen is quite pretty. Where did you find it? Who did the adjustment?

Tell me more about Recife. The pen is quite pretty. Where did you find it? Who did the adjustment?

I bought it January 2005 from Swisher Pens, which I think is now out of business? It worked, but the line was quite thin and it would fail to start after as little as 30-40 seconds of not writing; then with a little writing or scribbling the ink would start and it would work until paused again. After working through a handful of ml of ink without it getting any better, I gave up. At the time, I did not know how to adjust a pen, and didn't want to experiment on a "expensive" (~$70) pen, and I did not know there were professionals who could fix it.

This year I found out such a thing as "nibmeisters" existed, and sent two pens that didn't work right as delivered to Binder (in the final month he was taking in work apparently). One was the Récife. I didn't have any special grinding or smoothing done; just "binderizing" and JB did the actual work. I decided that spending another $15 or $20 per pen was worth it considering the amount they had cost and that they were worthless as they were. I received them back at the beginning of August.

Mine is officially called "Gold" color, and is an F nib, which is my favorite size. I really like the way it fits in my hand, the size, weight, and balance of this pen, and the way it looks filled with ink. I think it looks kind of stupid when empty. You can post it but it isn't meant to be posted, and is badly balanced when posted, like many larger cigar shaped pens.

Despite Récife being a Brasilian/Portuguese word, I believe the company is French. Their current "Amber Collection" has a model called "Réservoir Set", the "Gold" color of which is almost exactly the same pen I have, which was called "Crystal" at the time I bought it. To see it, go to http://www.recife.fr/PBSCCatalog.asp and after you click the british flag button to get the site in English it will take you to a different page, so you need to paste that url back into the browser location again.

It is interesting how the Diamine Washable Blue looks like two different inks in the two different flex pens. It looks more like the Moore Safety Pen shade in my non-flex pen. Also it gets just a bit lighter after it has had some time to sit on the paper.

My Sheaffer 440 XF went dry. I've replaced it with a Sheaffer Imperial II Deluxe, Fine nib, Blue, inked with Organics Studios Organink Manganate V blue/black.

The Moore is much drier than the Waterman. On my cheap work paper the Moore can be used with flex and there's no feathering and some bleed through (the paper does get show through from a ballpoint)the Waterman when flexed feathers a whole lot and bleeds through 2 pages.

I accidentally left out one pen yesterday. I re-did the sheet because I had done it in increasing nib sizes. So...

Not that we are OCD or anything.... :) I have to say that Waterman is a beauty.

:roflmho: :roflmho: :roflmho: Waterford...I don't own anything Waterman, except for a couple of Waterman inks, black and purple. :clap1:

Wow, you had to go and ask me that, didn't ya! Can't ya tell that I have trouble making up my mind and that is the reason that I have 16 pens all inked up at one time, Ha, ha, ha.......Ok seriously now....I have to really break them down into two catagories then if you want me to pick a favorite.....For the Modern one, I would and I cringe but I have always wanted one of these, and then this one fell into my lap so to speak, by a dear friend who asked me to repair his fountain pen he sent me this one to "play with" while I fixed his pen.....And that pen is the Yard -O-Led Grand Viceroy Lined Fountain Pen with a Stub Nib! Now for the Vintage One is the 1929 Wahl EverSharpe Rosewood Hard Rubber and the reason I chose that is that I repaired that one myself and overhauled it and it gave me the fight of my repair life! It took me 2 days to get the section apart from the barell!. Yes that's right, 2 days! It was glued on, I think....But this pen is so Beautiful that it is not even Funny! So there ya go and have it. I did not like having to make up my mind on this topic as I am in love with all 16 of my inked up pens! Including the 4 that I did not take a picture of that are in my briefcase downstairs.....

It's funny, but when I saw the pens, and looked at the list I had to do a double take. Immediately I thought, "that can't be write" the one on the left is old plastic and the one on the left is the new stuff." Which then prompted me to examine that you had said, from "Right to Left" and I giggled to myself.

+1 Not possible!

But... which one is your favorite ... today.

Well today my favorite is the Stipula Passaporto 1.1 with the Diamine Denim.

Change is not mandatory, Survival is not required.

Ha, ha, ha.....I can see where it can give you that laugh! That Edison Collier Antique Marble is probably a 2010 pen, just looks "old" where the 1937 Parker Vacumatic is actually OLD!

To answer your question tho, Yes I repair pens....And get great enjoyment out of it!
