Well this idea has been coming and going for like 11 years or more now.

Running a site is not necessary. It's enough to host a Wikia. As people come and go, hopefully the admin token gets passed around so the site can continue.

Moreover, with a small amount of learning about git and GitHub, Markdown syntax, and a Wikia to keep track of everyone's individual projects, it should be possible to set up a looser federation of ink dabblers that don't have such a massive single point of failure.

The beauty of git, too, is that it makes it easy for people to suggest, discuss, and accept improvements to their ink recipes. Or if someone doesn't want your improvement, you can fork off of their original recipe and make your own derivative ink from it. Even if GitHub goes away, it's easy to keep local copies of the recipes and start them back up somewhere else!

Tragic that the first forum is long gone. I would hope that someone has the threads or even the recipes saved. It's a good lesson - have to contribute here for posterity.

I would like to participate if people are still working on this project. I'd like to make a large batch to give away at my club meetings and to use in a community bottle for those at the meeting to dip test pens.

I thought I would mention I made some purple ink based on the recipe posted by LucasT. I am actually pretty happy with it so far, so thank you very much LucasT.
