Sheaffer Imperial Fountain Pen Model?

Recommended Posts

I have a beautiful gold Sheaffer Fountain Pen and I am having a lot of trouble identifying which model it is. It is either a Imperial 727, 777 or 797 but they all look identical to me. It has SHEAFFER 14K AUST on the nib and SHEAFFER MADE IN AUSTRALIA on the bottom of the cap. It's in a black box with a gold trim and is lined with red. Is there any way to cosmetically tell these three pens apart? Any help would be appreciated.

These are difficult, you can rule out a 797 as the pattern isn't "fluted" enough, even the 777 has fairly pronounced lines which yours appears to lack. In this case a 727 is the most likely ....to the point of near certainty to me anyway.

By the way it's not worth $235 ( or anywhere near that mark), good pens but not the resale one would expect. Last one I bought (a 797, superb condition) I paid $50 and the sought after and more valuable sterling silver models make $125/150 in excellent condition.

Here is my NOS 777 imperial with gold fill for comparison. I paid just over $70 for mine. Looking at the end of the barrel of yours it does not look the same

Here is an excellent site that I found very useful in finding more info.

Here is an image of the 727 which is plated rather than gold fill so I would imagine would go for a little less than the 777, I think it looks like yours.

And here are some of my 777 for comparison.

Nice 777. I suspect it is a "second" NOS from Peyton Street Pens? I have been eyeing this model. I am not sure what to expect on the dent, ding, or pitting. Looks like your clip has a couple of pitted spots. It is really a gorgeous looking pen.

Spot on! The only thing wrong with mine was a couple of tiny pit marks on the clip, otherwise it was mint. I would recommend Terri's seconds any day, great value and in my experience very small blemishes.

All the best.
