The Esterbrook Forum Estie Loaner Program

Happy New Year to you all,

can I start by saying how much I have enjoyed being part of this forum.

So far the only older pens I have are a Sheaffer Lady that I bought from Pb and I have just bought an old Pilot from the classifieds.

I would love to have the opportunity of trying an Estie. I have been looking out for one for a while. I am planning on going to the Pen show in Bristol in February and hope to pick one up my first Eerie then. I would ideally like to try a J model or an LJ I prefer a longer pen. I would also like to try an extra fine or fine nib. Is this possible?

thanks

Can I borrow just a nib, since I now have an Estie? I'd like to play with an Estie stub nib for a while. Postage should be less that way, too...

Be sure to refer to the rules at entry #1 on Page 1 of this thread.

I would like to remind folks that the Borrower is supposed to keep the pen for only two weeks and also "pay forward" a token amount ($3) for postage, to help the loaners with mailing costs. I'm happy to keep going with the loan program; I think it has been great in introducing folks to these fantastic pens, but so far in loaning out Esties under this program none of the people to whom I have loaned pens has returned a pen on time or helped with postage. Now, the $3 isn't going to break me or cause me to sweat, but it would be nice for folks to acknowledge the privilege of borrowing a vintage pen for use by at least following the minimal rules of this loaner program. It sort of goes hand in hand with the idea that FPN is a community of fellow pen enthusiasts, sharing our interests. 'nuff said about that.

Hope everyone has a safe and happy New Year.

Amen and Amen!

There is nothing to be gained by listing these ner do wells here, this thread is to promote happiness not disdain but I've also asked DCP to send me the other two names I Was Not aware off. FWIW, these 3 people, should they attempt to in the future, have so far as I am concerned, Removed Themselves from any future participation in the Loaner program.

Bruce, I have a red SJ nib 2668 for Canadian loans only ....the customs and postage delays back and forth added about 2 weeks to the Gclef loaner plus postage was about $5 plus envelope. I hope this ok. The nib is a bit scratchy but something a person can try out...

The loaner was from Pajaro for me to help with a Canadian loaner.

Megs, we probably shouldn't be sending out Loaner pens with nibs that are even a bit scratchy, the idea after all Is To Showcase how Good they write...

How about this?

In the true spirit of the Estie Loaner program, there have been a couple gracious FPNers who have PM'd me in the past and offered to help with the program in some way if they could.

Ding! Ding! Ding! We have a winner! ;)

I have sent one of them a PM about your post and a nice nib for your pen, we'll do what we can to get your SJ as it should be, in the starting Loaner line-up. :clap1:

Stay tuned.

I will be returning GClef's green J with the 9788 nib in the next day or two. It's far brighter in color than it looks in photos -- a bright, jade green.

And it writes beautifully, a delight.

I'm about to move house, so I need to pull my Esties from the loaner program for a while.

I do have a 9460 smoother nib and I am using it in my J estie as it is smooth and firm. I can paypal someone for any loaner nibs anyone wants in rotation but if it is a stub I plan on using it too. I am a leftie so the toothy feel may be less on the SJ nib in a right handed user who does not roll the nib when they write. The SJ came with the 9460 and it seems to work well on both pens. The loaner picture I can email but uploads off the Playbook are not working...

Here is the silver or grey Esterbrook J which I can loan also if anyone wants to try it. The sac is a mystery if it is new or not but it takes ink and has not leaked on me and is often lately in my shirt pocket.

I would like to say that I have available for the loan program the following pens and nibs:

Red SJ, Green SJ, Blue J, Gray Deluxe, Turquoise M2, light blue purse pen, any of which I can fit with any of the following nibs:

2668 M, 2556 F, 2460 M, 1551 M, 9450 F, 9460 M, 2314-B, 9314-F, 9550 F, 9556 F, 2284 B stub. All these nibs write smoothly.

The pens were either bought stated to be resacced or NOS (M2). The gray DeLuxe is LJ sized with metal cap.

I think there is no demand for the 9284, so I will withdraw that nib. Love it too much anyway to part with it for 2 weeks. The 2284-B is wetter.

Edited for detail after re-examining my junktiques.

The subject of a few Estie Borrowers not fulfilling their part of the postal reimbursement has been discussed among the Estie Loaner Outters. They are those most immediately impacted.

As a result, there is a Pending change to at least the order of how things happen in the Loaner Program.

The change is simply that the Borrower will Paypal Gift the agreed on postage to them to their Lender Outter, either $3.00 or the amount they agree to with the Lender Outter, BEFORE the Estie is placed into the mail to the Borrower.

This eliminates the After borrowing postage issue thusly solving it.

This change Will Remain *A Pending Change* to the point at which Another Borrow than the ones currently known of, fails to keep their end of the Loan Out agreement up. At that point it changes from Pending to In force.

The decision of when or if that ever occurs lies solely in the hands of those borrowing the Esties.

I would also like to personally thank the Loaner Outters, Borrowers and all members and visitors to the Esterbrook forum for their efforts and contributions in having made the first 6 months of the Estie Loaner Program such a success.

Hi Bruce, I have a blue SJ and a blue LJ for loan, with choice of the following nibs: 1550 EF, 2556 F, or 2284 stub. However, the 2284 stub is currently winging its way to warmer climes and so is currently unavailable. Thanks for keeping everything updated.

Actually, Pensandink, your Loaner person has so graciously offered to waive the usual reimbursement of the postage to you since she is only sending it within the UK (and she's a very giving lady). :clap1:

Instead maybe spend the time and pen her a nice thank you note while testing the pen.

As a matter of fact, write and show Us Here with it when you get it!

That's been a BIG unexpected surprise to me.

I think the 9284 is even a More Fun, More usable Fun nib than the Flexies (which of course, I KNEW would get a lot of attention).

If I go to the Atlanta pen show as I often do next year, maybe I'll see if Pendleton will donate a 9668 CI grind to a Loaner pen.
