It's now official. Thanks to this program I have acquired two Esterbrooks of my own: the green SJ with 9048 nib that was initially loaned to me, and then given by Hex just as I was getting ready to pack it up and send it back - I had enjoyed it and was wondering where to get one of my own.

Then today the one I bought from a fellow FPN member by way of the classifieds, a silver J with a 2668 nib, arrived in my mailbox this morning. This one is a little larger, but the silver color is very close to the green. I have not even inked this pen yet, only diptested it. It's very smooth and has a little bit of flex, it seems. A very nice pen, different in feel from the smaller SJ. I can see why people collect these pens...

I have scanned the two pens, and a short writing sample for each, below.

I see that scanning the pens with the writing sample does not really show their colors correctly - sorry for that. The J is silver color, the SJ is greenish. Their colors are very close, actually.

edited for addition of writing sample

Could I put my name on the list to try a J style with a medium nib please? I have ink and like many of you collect pens and have contributed in the PIF program. If anyone has a J style pen to sell PM me and I can arrange to PayPal or email the funds if it is easier to sell and ship one to me versus international mail costs to Canada...

You can PM me for my borrowing details.

Bruce, thanks for organizing this.....you got me interested in Parker 51's too.....sigh and now I am liking them too much. :cloud9:

Rob Maguire (Plse call me "M or Mags" like my friends do...)I use a Tablet, Apple Pencil and a fountain pen. Targas, Sailor, MB, Visconti, Aurora, vintage Parkers, all wonderful.

Well, for now, with the two I have, I can be a local loaner for Curaçao! If there is anyone on here from Korsou, you can send me a PM and you can borrow an Estie for two weeks. I'm willing to let you have the silver J.

As someone that began using fountain pens two years ago and is now obsessed, like so many others on here, I'd like to say that it is quite a welcome respite from the usual world of distrust and negativity out there that I deal with, to see a group of strangers that have a common love and devotion, working together for nothing more than to expand that love.

Maybe the human race can make it, afterall.

I also needed to post something else to get to 30 to be included in the exchange.

What nib is in your Silver J? I'll add it to the list as a local Loaner for Curaçao.

Not sure of the loan status of either pen, but I'd like to try out either the Copper J with the 9048 nib or the Green J with the 9788 nib.

What? This loaner program has no desk pens??

I have a black-tailed "State Farm Insurance" Estie desk pen with base with a 9556 (F, Master Point) or 2668 (M, DuraChrome Point) nib available for loan from Florida.

Because of the heavy base, a larger envelope/higher shipping may be involved; I'm willing to eat the extra cost for shipping it out, but borrowers should be aware of this possibility for the pen's return trip.

You should package it up as you would if you were to mail it and weigh it on a postal scale so you can determine Ahead Of Time what the return postage would be in the event someone wants to borrow it. All of the current Loaner Outers have a pretty good handle on what their outgoing pens cost to mail now in order to let their Borrowers know Up Front what the return costs should be. If you'll determine that, I'll add that as a note to the "Available For Loan" listing for your deskset.

(SHRUGS.)

I was just going to Flat Rate Box it.

Total weight is about 15oz, which the USPS meter automatically dumps into Priority for $4.97 in a bubble mailer. It's outside the weight range for FCM and Parcel would be $5.70.

A small Flat Rate box is $5.65 and the extra 68 cents is worth it to me for the extra protection it gives from marauding sorting machines. I can always stick an extra Forever stamp or two in the box to reimburse the borrower their cost of return postage, or a SASE if boxes are somehow terrifying.
