The Esterbrook Forum Estie Loaner Program

Disco messaged that he had bought some Esties and no longer needed to borrow the LJ with the 9048.

Something must be going right when we can make them Estie-dependent without even lending pens, with just the whiff of an Estie.

We've managed to mutate the Estie virus into an uber-virulent strain?

It infects via thought process.

I think I have a particular strain that appears to be resistant even to spousal pressure.

I am pretty sure the Anderson's had something to do with that particular mutation of the virus.

Hello,

Can I borrow the Green J, 9788 M. I think I've read all the rules and understand what I need to do. Let me know if I need to pm someone directly or do anything else. Yes, you are all enablers and the virus has mutated! :)

PM sent! Very cool program that y'all (because there should be a plural you and I'm from the south so it is a real word!) run and very generous.

I just bought my first Esterbrook to restore and I feel so bad because I know I'll probably make a huge mess of it and it looks like such a nice little pen. It deserves someone better than me. I feel so guilty but I just know if I ink it up I'll end up wearing even more ink than usual. It looks amazing for a pen that I spent $11 on ebay to get. Guilt is a terrible thing but it's going to get a new sac and I'm going to get over my guilt and give it one!

Do what the resac thread pinned in this forum says and you'll be just fine.

What a cool Idea! I really like the community here. I have some vials that I can ship to someone if they are needed to provide ink samples to people who don't have access to it. I could even fill some with Quink (not my favorite).

If possible, I would like to try the Blue SJ medium 2668 nib please. Thanks so much.

Larry,

It is possible that pen may belong to an inactive FPNer. The last time they were here was 3 months ago. I HAVE sent them a message of inquiry but I may not hear back from them. Let's give it a day or two and in the meantime could you choose a 2nd choice In Case I don't hear back from them.

Thanks,

Hi Brucel, How about the Green J, 9788 M ? I don't know anything about the pens except what I've read here. I looked up the nib references and I'm looking for a general kind of nib, nothing fancy, since I wouldn't know what to do with a special nib. Thanks very much for your effort. I'll take your advice and try out any J or LJ or SJ that you think might work for a beginner.

Actually Larry, the 9788 IS a pretty specialized nib.

I actually have a better idea for you as I hope you'll agree.

We recently had a FPN wide contest to gift a FPNer with a fully restored beautiful Red Estie J with a 2668 Medium nib. The pen was donated to the Loaner Program by FPNer ANM. Here is the thread with the contest and a pic of the pen and how it writes. I think you being a newer pen person and it being the newest member of the Loaner Program are a PERFECT match.

I have contacted the pen's owner and they should be in touch with you shortly.

In the meantime, be sure to read the first post in this thread to Be Sure how the Loaner Program works.

And WELCOME!

Bruce, that sounds perfect and I have contacted the owner to accept his offer. This is a great service you guys are offering

Hi Bruce,

That sounds perfect. I just found the Esterbrook nib chart and I realize that the special quality of a lot of those nibs would be lost on a beginner like me. The owner has contacted me and I have accepted his generous offer. You guys have a great service here and I appreciate it very much.

Thanks.

If it's still available, I'd love to borrow the Red SJ, 9461 F-M. I will follow the rules as required.

Thanks!

Pendragon, I can't seem to figure out for the life of me where I came up with that pen in the list from.

However, we also have another Red SJ with a 9460 Medium nib and it's owner also has other nibs.

Stay tuned to hear from him and welcome to the Loaner's program!

Bruce, thanks for the quick response. I've heard from the owner already. Can't wait to try my first Eastbrook!

I might be bending the rules a bit here, but I told pendragondragon I would lend him two red SJs, one with the 9460 medium manifold and one with a 9556 firm fine.
