Most Disappointing Ink Buy

Diamine Majestic Blue. The color was fine, but every time I laid my hand or arm on some that has already dried, my skin would pick it up! My hands are naturally always a bit sweaty, so it was a nightmare for me. I fear all Diamine will be the same so I have just been avoiding it.

I have to list my first....

Diamine Syrah. I really tried to love it, but for some reason, I do not think it will be getting tooo much use. Now that I have J Herbin Rouge Hematite I far prefer it, or Pilot Yama - Budo? iirc. The Syrah is there. Other issue, has a bit of flow issue in my pens, more issues in Medium Lamy Al Star, less in Parker Sonnet. But I may just fill it in one of my many chinese pens now.

Quite a few dissapointments in the Noodlers samples I got.

Dostoyevsky.... just way too watery/light.

The three I really love... Waterman Florida Blue/serenity, Aurora Black (if i have to use black), Mont Blanc Blue/Black (IG formula), J Herbin 1670 Rouge Hemitate and 1670 Ocean Blue.

Regarding my issue with deposits in two of Noodlers inks:

I don't know what "PiFed" means.

After I had let the ink settle for a while, I gently poured the upper couple of ounces into another bottle, leaving the sludge in the original bottle. I did this three times. Nevertheless, the triple-purified ink still generated sludge.

By the way, I discovered the problem because I always transfer my ink to Nalgene 2 oz. or 1 oz. bottles. The deposits not only settled in the bottom of the bottle, but left a film on the Nalgene that did not rinse off. I had to rub it off. I took all of this as a bad sign. I would rather throw away a ten dollar bottle of ink than risk clogging an expensive pen.

PiF means "Pay it Forward". There is a thread for that purpose on this board.

Delta Red and Delta Black. Both are deep rich colours and look good on paper. But they wash right off. I have never seen such untenacious inks. I threw the bottles with their contents away.

Edelstein Tanzanite — it's not a bad ink, it is in fact, a good blue-black reminiscent of Script Blue-Black and has pleasant shading in several of my pens.

It does not, however, resemble the colour of any tanzanite I've ever seen.

I suggest you give other Diamine inks a try. Majestic Blue is a "special" one, it has a red sheen that makes it a little different to others that don't have it.

If you like blue ink, you have a wide range. Maybe swapping samples with friends or buying one better than buying a whole bottle, but... One ink in Diamine catalog is not enough to judge the entire range ;)

What a shame as I find Diamine Majestic Blue my "go to" ink for day to day work. Don't give up on Diamine though as they make a fabulous range of inks in great colours that are consistent, reliable and excellent value for money.

For me: Noodlers Baystate Blue. Every time I try to use, everything is blue, the nib, the syringe, even my fingers and the sink, and I can not write with it. It so dense that seems not to fluid through the nib.

The other one is Private Reserve DC supershow blue. It is too dry that makes the nibs to be scratchy. It is so strange, because other PR, Cosmic Blue, is wanderfull, but not this one.

I do not mean to bash but...I will never again by a Faber-Castell ink. Especially the colorfast line. The one I particularly purchased is the Garnet Red for about $25.00 thinking it would be similar to the Pilot Iroshizuku Yama-Budo during a local pen convention. But little did I know how it behaved on paper.

Layed down a strange red, really dry lines in all my pens in which I filled and tested, and is definitely not the price for the way it behaved.

All in all, dry, expensive, and bad flow.

Oh yes, same here. Garnet Red is one weird ink! It's like Montblanc Leonardo's unsuccessful sibling. Very weird, indeed. I found it awful right from the start.

Even weirder is that I start to like this ink now that I've used it for a couple of weeks. It's actually behaving very well in my Stipula Passaporo Neve. I said Agate Red in the linked video  but it's actually Garnet Red.

Who makes agate red ink anyway? I know there's a Sailor agate red FP... but ink?

The other new GvFC inks are better. Maybe not worth the $25, expecially if you already have one of these beautiful bottles, but maybe they are.

Wow, that works very well for you. But I think most of it, from my perspective, is mostly in how the color was so different from what was on the swab as well as what I expected.

I'll probably check out the other Faber-Castell inks in person.

If it's the most dissapointing buy, then it would probably be this bottle of Waterman Mysterious Blue. If it's the most disappointing ink, then it would be this lame Parker Quink black, and I don't even think it has a dry time fast enough for my left-handedness to be useful.

Ooo bummer and it's one that so many like which makes it even more disappointing.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).
