Noodler's Midway Blue

This is a blue that's fairly close to Noodler's Blue in terms of tint and behavior, but is different enough that it certainly has its own attitude. I personally love it, even more than Noodler's Blue (which is saying something).

And since I'd already written out the comparisons for the Noodler's Blue review, here it is.

Here's a comparison of Blue and Midway Blue.

I also have a new way of scanning images which should help the tint shift problem I've been having with recent reviews. I made a cruddy color wheel knockoff that I stick at the bottom of every scan so the printer's software could see more than just one color. Hopefully it's will make processing the colors more accurate.

Definitely looking forward to getting a full bottle of this ink! Thanks for looking!

I go back and forth on whether I prefer Blue or Midway blue on a daily basis. Kind of frustrating. Better just get a bottle of each. :D

I'm glad you did this review. I bought Midway Blue when it first came out and was not happy with its flow - outrageously fast in my opinion. However, upon seeing your review I think I'll give it another chance, maybe this time with a drier writing pen.

Thanks for introducing me to this color. I would have overlooked it otherwise, and I think that slight lean toward turquoise makes the ink pop a little better than Noodler's Blue, Blue Eel, or Liberty's Elysium.

I cycle through lighter and darker shades of blue for similar reasons. It's like asking which of your two or three favorite foods you like best. Eat enough of one of them for awhile, and the others will gain appeal.

I know this is an older post but...I just wanted to take a moment to say thanks for taking the time to upload this review. As a relative newbie to all things inky, I was looking for some inspiration and found it here. Suffice it to say, an order has been placed!

My pleasure! I'm glad to do my small part to get more people into the hobby!

Great review, just opened a bottle to fill up a Parker 51.

Very nice ink, about the 53rd straight colour that seriously impressed me with a first usage....

Huh. How did I overlook this ink before? Sigh. Another one for the sample stash.... :headsmack:

When I "discover" an ink in my life I make sure to resurrect an old review and restart the conversation and maybe make a few new admirers of a good ink

Ooooh, I've been looking for a blue ink and I definitely want to try this one out! Thanks for the review. It's a lovely ink.

Very encouraging. I ordered a bottle of Midway Blue today. I wanted a nice authoritative blue with some semblence of water resistance without having to evacuate the house and burn the furniture If i spilled it. Those inks that will withstand all but the fires of hell kinda scare me. I have been known to dribble a little here and there.

How does it compare to Noodler's Ottoman Azure? I haven't tried either ink, but I know that Ottoman Azure has a lot of fans.

I have both.

Noodler's Ottoman Azure is very similar to Noodler's Blue, but with a touch of the teals. Otherwise, identical in behaviour as far as water fastness, spreading, feathering, bleeding, etc.

Midway blue, as you can see from the scans, is a more sky-blue blue. As well, I found it is much more paper critical. It spreads, feathers and bleeds much more than the other two inks, which is why I have hardly touched my bottle.

Thanks. That's the kind of information that is really useful when trying to decide between inks. I may end up ordering samples of all three so I can make up my mind. But you've given me a starting point.

Just dipped my Midway filled Parker 51 into the Ottoman Azure bottle and the Azure is a bit darker, both are what I call the greenish blues, my favourite kind of blue ink.

Give it another go, this ink is one of my favorites and it's fade proof and water resistant. Here it is after 6 weeks in direct sun.

The fade resistance is impressive, Amber. I wonder how does the water resistance develop? I received my ink today and wrote a few sentences on quality bond paper to test it. I let it dry for an hour and then gently immersed it in water only to see 95% of the ink immediately float away leaving only a faint stain. This may have been a bad paper to use since it is a rag content bond, but intended, I think, for old fashioned typewriter use (remember them?). Some of those papers had coatings reducing the permeability of the paper rendering them somewhat "erasable". A few more tests are in order but so far the water resistance angle isn't doing much for me.

On the othe hand, I love the color. Not ultramarine blue, not cobalt blue, but cerullean blue sort of a color.

Well, I now have samples on order of all three: Noodler's Blue, Midway Blue, and Ottoman Azure, and will try to do a side by side comparison (possibly also throwing in some other similar-ish blues and azures that I already have).
