Fwi Ebonite Pens Unveiled

Those are ridiculously beautiful.

I'm getting the impression the Taiwanese are well on the way to dominating yet another industry, after computer components, semiconductors fabrication, and bicycle frames :notworthy1: Although those will probably remain a somewhat bigger portion of the country's GNP!

Some very handsome pens there!

Pens and paper everywhere, yet all our hearts did sink,

Pens and paper everywhere, but not a drop of ink.

Do the rounded top pens come in the wooden finishes as well? Really lovely pens...

Does anyone know if FWI has started selling outside of Taiwan yet?

My poor pocketbook is hoping the answer is 'no'...

It just occurred to me that after having started this thread more than 7 months ago, I still haven't posted any picture of my green FWI ebonite pen. So here they are.

My pen has retained the perfect glass-like finish after constant everyday use. It really is a joy to use. In addition, the ink flow has been very consistent so far, just a tad on the wet side, making it suitable for writing on cotton and high quality paper.

Here the green ebonite pen rests on a FWI pen rest which is available in two sizes and in different woods. Since the cap is slightly wider than the barrel, the 'pillars' are designed in such a way that when the pen is placed on the them, both the cap and the barrel stay parallel to the ground. a very ingeneous design indeed. Note the etched feather (a FWI logo) on the pen rest.

I am a lucky guy in that one of my pen buddies, Jim H just lent me his for a week!. It is one of the flat top designs, but is made of a beautiful highly figured wood (not sure what kind and Jim is at work).

I can tell you that the workmanship is superb, as is the writing performance. For people that care (and I am one of them) the packaging is very extensive. It came in a fabric box with a magnetic lid, two tins of cartridges, a kimono, cleaning cloth, a pen stand, and a breathtaking wooden pen rest.

I have a few things going on over the next couple of months, but I have a FWI on my list for the next purchase.

Doug, that is high praise coming from you! What an intriguing pen.

Taiwan Yew is the Wood. Rudy is very easy to work with. I saw a recent review on an Olive Wood Flat top and fell in love. The hardest part is making the decision on the material. I had it in my hands in roughly 2 weeks.

Rudy has a Facebook page featuring his latest design, a white/Mokume pen. it is more than beautiful. Enjoy the pen Doug, it's a sweetie. Jim

Leave it to Jim to know exactly what he bought. One more thing, but something I appreciate: It takes 1 and a half turns to remove the cap. A little thing, but something I really like on my pens.

Out of my league price wise- but absolutely gorgeous. Am envious of those of you who either own or will own one of these beautiful pens.

These pens are amazingly beautiful. I am familiar with the reputation of Mr. Rudy and Mr. Lin at FWI, and look forward to ordering one of their wooden pens. The problem: as I don't speak or read Chinese, I cannot find where the wooden pens are advertised on the site. Thanks to Google Translate, I have found the urushi pens, but I am still searching for the wooden ones. Can anyone help by sending me a link?

Thanks.
