I haved checked the shop where I bought it, they still have it in EF version :

They also have the other wood model in EF if you prefer it.

This link is the "gift box" version with the white box and little pouch to keep the pen.

I am gonna order a few K5 converters, Amazon.com sells them and it's about $6 for 3.

I ordered myself another one. Did not find it on shops but on Amazon (was checking the price to compare it to pen shops)

http://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B001QDBDNI/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i02

This one is made of Inox :-)

The converter I ordered is not the good one. In the picture of the shop it has metal parts, and all I got is the very same one I already got with the pen.

Do anyone has a reliable supplier for a K5 in Europe ? UK would be nice to avoid paying taxes and shipping.

You can get the Schmidt K5 direct from Schmidt.co.uk:

They do post Internationally, but don't give a charge, all they say is postage will be charged at cost.

Mine just came in an ugly plastic hard box that could hold 3 fountain pens. Ugly but practical. Didn't come with the soft case..Really good for a steel nib though, have one with a broad nib myself

I think the 'plastic hard box' is a 'gift box'.....maybe for Christmas....nobody told me the 'bottom half' wasn't supposed to open.... :( ........I think I broke it

A blob or 2 of superglue seems to have done the job....but it's a poor design for getting the pen in and out in my opinion

Shame really as if it had a better design it would have made a decent 'Pen Case'

This thread is rather old but I am curious to know:

What is the difference between Faber Castell and Graf-Von- Faber Castell pens?

I myself have a Faber Castell ambition and though I couldn't find the EF version of the nib I did find and F version. The pen in review looks very similar to mine except that the packing is really nicer.

Thanks

It's the same company, two different lines though. The Graf von Faber Castell pens are made in Germany while the Faber Castell line are made in other areas, mostly Brazil IIRC. Also the GvFC pens generally use more expensive materials (pernambuco, grenadilla or ebony instead of pearwood or coconut wood) and usually gold nibs and heavier plating. If Faber Castell is their entry level pens then the GvFC are their mid range and the Annual or Limited Editions their luxury line.

Nice review. I have the same pen with a medium nib and it never meet my expectations. I had heard that Faber Castell nibs were super smooth and mine is rather rough. I might smooth it out with some micro mesh. I love the wood design and the design of the pen. I really want to try a GVFC with a gold nib.

Just for information the EF is available from The Writing Desk, see here :

http://www.thewritingdesk.co.uk/showproduct.php?brand=Faber+Castell&range=Ambition&cat=pens

Andy's Pens doesn't list them on his site....but from past experience I think you will find he could get them too

No affiliation to either....just sayin...

Hey folks. Just seen this not-very-recent thread, but I cannot help wondering....

i have been looking at FC and GvFC pens for some time with the intent of buying one.

It's clear that the company wants to segregate the premium and standards lines so as to be competitive in both markets, but why then have GvFC packaging with a standard FC product? I know others have asked the same question in this thread and there has been no reply, so I am still wondering...

Is this normal packaging for standard FC pens or perhaps an error?

thanks

Most likely either a special sale or dealer error but the lower end of the GvFC pens, the Guilloche comes in a similar package.

I have the medium nib version of this pen, and it writes unbelievably well. Better than many expensive pens that I've tried, and the feeling of the wooden barrel is incredible! Such a well made pen, I adore it.

I was playing with the coconut wood version of this pen at Paradise Pen the other day, and I just love it. The cap is pretty heavy and changes the balance quite a bit when it's posted, but I like it both ways.

I thought the Lamy 2000 would be my next "real" pen, but I'm considering this one as well. The Kaweco Sport in raw aluminum is calling my name too.

Since I liked the wood Ambition, the salesperson at Paradise Pens handed me an Online Vision Nature as it also has a wooden barrel. It seems like a very nice pen, and the price point is much lower. I'd rather wait and get the Faber-Castell, but those of you interested in wooden barreled pens might want to take a look at the Online.

Great photography, makes the pen much more appealling than pictures i've seen elswhere.

I have found pure tung oil great on wood, in the pure form it's foodsafe. It was used for waterproofing boats in the past. Is there any reason not to use it on a wooden pen?

This thread turned out to be expensive reading for me - I ordered the rollerball version of this! I'm not going to collect rollerballs but just want to get at least one decent example. :)

Hi All -

Just want to shed some light on getting EF nibs for Faber-Castell pens in the US. I bought a FC Ambition in Black today from Daly's Pens. The website only offers three nib choices in F, M and B. However, if you are willing to wait 6-8 weeks they can special order the EF nib directly from Germany ... why it takes so long I have no idea.

Another note on Daly's pens ... they offer great customer service but make sure you call to see if they have the pen in stock. I initially ordered the F nib and they had to place a special order ... since I had to wait that long I took the liberty to ask if I could get the EF nib instead

Hope this info helps if you are looking for an EF nib ;)
