As parker pens closed down, I know that they were taken over by the company that owns Waterman pens.

just wondered where both brands are now made and what were the last pens made in uk or France and if they are now made in the far East!

I believe that they are being made in a factory located in France, in Nantes, possibly. Dont quote me on the location of the factory , though.

It is model dependent. Some models are made in China while the rest in France and I believe UK.

It is model dependent. Some models are made in China while the rest in France and I believe UK.

 

 

Interesting, is it safe to assume the higher end models are made in europe? Also I own a few Watermans including Experts, Careene, a Charleston and several Phileas, and when I look back upon each purchase, every one of them performed well out of the box. I wish I could say the same for some other brands.

The Wikipedia page claims that all pens and inks are made in this french factory.

That is the case indeed.

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

When my local pen shop received a set of Parker Premier monochromes I was surprised how much better they wrote than the Parkers 12 years ago.

The store clerk mentioned that Parker nibs are now made in France by Waterman.

 

The Premier and Sonnet that I both eventually bought were indeed much better than what I had to come to expect from Parker, which is a welcome development.

 

Having said that; the (ultimately disappointing) Parker Sonnet Ciselé pens that I tried 12 years ago had also nibs made in France, but they were still manufactured by Parker.

No Parkers or Watermans are now made in England.

 

I know that they have factories in France but it's also possible they may have others elsewhere

The Parker IM and Urban lines are made in China. I believe there is a thread in the Parker Sub-Forum on which models are made where. Not so sure about Waterman.

As I know Newell Rubbermaid -also owner of waterman paris company- bought parker company some years ago.The same company also announced in July 2009 that the Parker factory at East Sussex, England is going to close.

 

I recently bought a parker sonnet FP and on the nib it is inscribed "FRANCE" -compared to older sonnets made in UK-. Quink ink is also made in France.

 

So I think that nowdays most of parker pens intended for the European market are made in France.

I bought a Parker Jotter BP recently and that is marked as France on the barrel next to the date code.

Probably yes.

 

Parker makes pens in France and China now. There are some made in India under license by a company named Luxor, but those are only sold in the Indian home market.

 

The French-made Parkers are: the Duofold, Premier, Sonnet, standard Vector and the standard Jotter.

 

The Chinese-made Parkers are: the IM, Urban, Vector Premium and Jotter Premium.

 

I'm not entirely sure where the Ingenuity is made.

 

Also, I don't believe the Sonnet was ever made in the UK. It was always made in France. Parker owned and operated a factory in Meru, France beginning in the 1970s, long before they moved to Nante (it made the later versions of the 75 among other pens).

There are even waterman pens that are manufactured in India.Luxor has been responsible for manufacturing them in India.

You're welcome! Yes, the Frontier was discontinued in 2010, but there seems to be a large supply of NOS Frontiers floating around on the internet.

The Frontiers are now being made by the Parker affiliate The Luxor Group in Noida (next to, or part of, New Delhi) in India.

I am currently writing one up. TLDR summary - the nib is carp.

I've bought Indian-made high-end Sonnets (the Chinese lacque ones) for very reasonable prices, and they've been great writers, with springy 18K nibs.

      Cappuccino should work. Frothy milk also helps to lubricate the nib. But it has to be made by a barista.

      No replies required to my complaints about the Pelikan. A friend came to the rescue with some very magnification equipment - with the images thrown to a latge high res screen. Technology is a wonderful thing. Thanks to Mercian for the reply. I had been using the same paper & ink for sometime when the "singing" started. I have a theory but no proof that nibs get damaged when capping the pen. 👍

      I'm not expecting any replies to my question about the singing Pelikan nib. It seems, from reading the background, that I am not alone. It's a nice pen. It's such a pity Pelikan can't make decent nibs. I have occasionally met users who tell me how wonderful their Pelikan nib is. I've spent enough money to know that not everyone has this experience. I've worked on nibs occasionally over forty years with great success. This one has me beaten. I won't be buying any more Pelikan pens. 👎

      @Eppie_Matts Shouldn't be a problem - I've just put a Bock #6 Titanium into a La Grande Bellezza section. Went straight in without any problem.
