Aurora 88 (modern, full-size, piston-filler) without any hesitation.

Can't argue with that. It's a great pen.

Only one? Gee eezz! Well of the pens I have right now I'd have to say the TWSBI Diamond 540 would

win this choice hands down.

If you only had one fountain pen...

I've always avoided this line of thought because I would expect to be struck by lightning. "THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE!". Zap!

Actually I have enough nice pens that I couldn't consciously pick one. I'd have to spin a wheel or something, and I'd happy with the result.

Only the second Sheaffer here. My Imperial IV, black & gold, classy & classic. Touchdown filler, smooth inlaid fine nib. Writes perfectly first time, every time.

My F-nibbed Sheaffer Targa. It's even smoother than that Visconti 23kt "Dreamtouch" nib. So far, I haven't found 1 pen that rivals my Targa in terms of smoothness, balance and overall fun-to-use-ness.

Sheaffer 5-30 combo in black and pearl. It's a pen and a pencil. What could be better, unless you count a late 70's Chevy El Camino. Same principle, it's a car AND a truck.

I'd be happy with the pen pictured alone. The texture feels really good, and for whatever reason the pen feels more like a scepter. I feel kinda empowered with it in pocket or hand. No other pen has evoked that kind of feeling.

Long story short I've tuned the nib to my liking. It's a smooth xxf which isn't to dry or to wet (can write on bad paper without feathering, dries fast on good paper, and lays down a dark line).

Seems like TWSBI has quite a few votes, crazy for the price compared to all the fancy expensive pens out there!

Our Model 02 in Maroon. We made less than 10 of these in this color (all gone) and I had to have one for myself. Have an Extra-Fine nib on it at the moment, but I change that regularly.

@ Seth -- I have this in the Solid Emerald. It's a fine pen! Unique. But that color... maroon? Are there plans to make any more?

  • 1 month later...

I tried lots of Pelikans and Graf von Faber-Castell ones, but at the end the Lamy Dialog 3 is my daily favourite.

This of course makes it the "if I only had one" pen.

The Pelikan M 400 and M 250 do good job with writing of course, but they bore me.

The Graf von Faber-Castell Agnello in black ebony is great in haptics and great in writing, but the

Faber-Castell classic in full sterling beats it in haptics, weight and like it feels in my hand.

They are all great, but the Lamy Dialog 3 is just awesome to me.

Got it in black matte and it looks great. In addition I seem to have got an outstanding nib, writing so extremely smooth and exact as never expected.

And - of course - it's a great show to take the Dialog 3 out of my shirt pocket, rotating the 180 degree and showing up as an ink pen :-)

Best regards

Markus

If you promised me that it would last until my dying day, Waterman Concord.

If not I'd suffer the Parker 51 (but only because it is indestructible.)

If you only had one fountain pen to write with for the rest of your life everyday, which one would it be and why?

My Noodler's Nib Creeper flex pen. It does everything I want, is inexpensive, and easy to clean even with my finicky inks. I use it daily for journaling, writing letters, making lists, etc.

An Omas 360. Too comfortable for words and very well made. If you want something that seems like a tank can roll over it without impact, then perhaps it would be a 149, though mine has decided to leak recently. Nevertheless....

It wouldn't necessarily be the best pen, or the most beloved.. one pen for the rest of my life (and I did have only ne for about 15 years. Ok, maybe two.), the question of durability arises. The pen must not break, and if so, it m ust be easy to fix. This discard complex filling mecanisms IMO, so it's going to be c/c or ED filler. So, basically, my Densho. Maybe my Delta DVOS.
