Michael....I am rendered almost speechless!yikes.gifrolleyes.gif

But upon recovery, that has got to be the most beautiful display box I've ever seen.

I am totally envious of the recipient and hope they post something on FPN.drool.gif

You are a gifted craftsman indeed! notworthy1.gifclap1.gif

Michael,

I've found some clear rubbery stick-on feet that are actually wall bumpers for picture frames and are a little under 1/2 inch in diameter. I've used them on boxes that have a nice finished underside instead of covering the bottom with felt or foam. This allows the pretty finish to be seen, yet provides a non-skid capability and keeps either the box or what it is sitting on from getting scratched.

The brand I found is "Stick It" protective pads and they are made, of course, in China. The distributor is a company in South Carolina, but I imagine that a picture frame shop or such there in the UK should know of something similar.

Stick-it Protective Pads

Apparently there are other brands over there as well if you look at the "frequently bought together"....

Great idea Bama Pen!

Thanks Esterbex and John

The bottom is not finished wood of any type it is plywood I find that sometimes the felt picks up bits and pieces of suff,

We have three Springer spaniels so dog hair is always an issue here on the other hand it does finish things off nicley.

I might try cutting some feet out of felt.

I was trying to think of a way of stopping pens from moving around once in the box.

A piece of foam or plywood covered in the same red velvet ?????

thanks for your contributions

Thank you for inviting us in to watch and participate.

Hmmmm....felt feet works.

As for stabilising the pens, I'd think the foam would be kinder and gentler to the pen surfaces.

Would you glue the velvet or make a small slipcover for the wood or foam? Like a duvet cover....tongue.gif

Merry Christmas to you and a Happy New Year as well!

I have tested the felt feet idea and did not like it so it will be a full felt base.

I dont have enought velvet left after my error with the insert tray to cover a piece of foam.

My supplier is closed until January and I had planned on posting the box tomorrow.

So unless someone can come up with an alternative I will attach the base and send it tomorrow as planned.

I have my christmas sanding machine now so I am planning to finish some small boxes that have needed this piece of kit to do a decent job.

thanks

Michael

Michael, the recipient may well be able to sort out that small detail.

I hope the lucky duck is as pleased as I am envious! :puddle:

Like the ribbon.. adds a little something extra.

Really nice work!

Thanks I think the ribbon is a nice touch as well as hiding the joint I am not sure if I should have put ribbon down the sides as well as top and bottom, What do you think ?

Regards

It looks extremely elegant the way it is. I'm sure ribbon along the sides would look good too, but might be slightly over the top.

Esterbex please dont mention it yet as the box is still here.

Unfortunatley we had a visit from the Norovirus fairy (winter vomiting bug UK) so today is my first day out of bed.

I hope that i will be able to celebrate just a little tomorrow.

I will post the box as soon as I can then we can all wait and see who gets it :roflmho:

Oh my! It speaks!yikes.gif

I guess some would consider some pens to be jewelry....If she could bear to part with it...could I throw my hat into the ring for this one?

The hardware and legs make me think art-deco which I love....but it could also be mid-century modern which I also love. wub.gif

Tell your bride she can buy more jewelry with what you make off this one....wink.gif
